hi all, does anybody know what is different between the 96kw and the 128kw. is it just computer map changes, and/or a bigger turbo. i would expect things like diff and gearbox ratio's to be the same. i will be buying a t5 soon, and if a 96 comes up for the right price, i'd want it to be close to a 128 without too much trouble.
cheers

The difference between the two is obvious its 32 KW I am joking the reality is that you can chip up a 96KW model to a higher spec , I know a guy at the Gold Coast who has done this to his T5 .Howard

jfoldbar, are you saying don't get a 128, instead a 96, or don't get a 2.5 t5 at all? and why not!

Done 160,000km in our T5 128kW manual over 4years and a bit of boat towing around the country as well. Didn't miss a beat. Miss it heaps but needed awd and 3.5t tow capacity. Can't sleep in the back of the treg either. Get yourself the 128kW and get out and have fun!

Theres differences in injectors, turbocharger, mapping etc.
The 5cyl bottom end is proven but by most accounts the biggest problems with the 2.5's (any of them) are the waterpump and the usual diesel issues like keeping the EGR clean.
I would say there's nothing of note that makes a 96 any better than a 128 in termso of reliability apart from being less stressed.

Just take due diligence when purchasing a used car. Check the service history etc. Maybe get a second opinion, as there are just as many **** boxes as there are good cars out there.
I have seen many abused 128kw T5's out there....lack of service.....being treated like a rental car by employees.
