revnit
27-11-2011, 06:18 AM
2 pac is easy to spray alot better to work with than acrylic, it is ilegal to spray 2pac in a residential area  but don't let that stop you hahaha. A decent gun and some practice its easy to pick up, the rest of that car was done in a booth the engine bay was done in my shed turned out really good only got a few specs of crap in it happy with the outcome though

I've heard 2 pack is nicer to spray, comes out shiny off the gun. Im just very wary of the serious health risks involved by spraying it when you aren't in a booth. I like not pissing blood :P

Wow, great stuff mate!
Which alt do you have? - anyway they are basically all the same - the later ones have a b+ for the charge light and a w for tach signal on some cars. both are pretty safe i.e if you wire up the w to the charge light you wont cause any problems. You wont need the w terminal cos you'll get tach signal from the ignition.
So basically all you need is to connect the big terminal to the battery +, earth the alt body well and one of the little plugs goes to the charge light circuit on the dash.

Thanks gldgti, makes sense to me now i wired it up a couple years ago just needed my memory refreshed Ive basically binned the stock wiring loom and opted for a universal hotrod wiring loom and fuse box less complicated  Ill post pix as i start the wiring in the mean time fitted the front brakes.

Looks to be a nice unit Andrew.
Unfortunately the aircon is a dealer fitted item, VW never marketed any of the Mk1 bodied vehicles with factory RH aircon set up. The airbox for the factory aircon unit impedes the left leg position if used for RHD vehicles.
Even our 93 cabrio ( rhd) had some locally made garbage they tried to pass of as airconditioning !! prob runs at about 15% efficiency.
When is the 16V going to be up and running ??
revnit
14-05-2012, 06:56 PM
Yeah the air con was put in as an option the kit is from Volkswagen Texas has stickers all over it, it needs gas and the gas required is illegal now I believe. But I have been in a mk1 with a similar air con setup and it was rubbish.

Some people say it matters the really only differences is how smooth and easy the filler is to apply, but im my case everything was plated and welded in the engine bay. Around the towers was spot welded, then i used fiberglass filler to finish the smoothing then a small amount of normal filler to smooth it out. Fiberglass filler is alot stronger than normal filler and will hold up against movement and wont just crack. That's the advantages but its a pain to work with, doubles the time of the job but worth it!! I used 3M filler and 3M fibreglass from supercheap.
