Hi there,

Just found your site after "nastnas" posted a link on our NZ club forum (www.vask.org.nz).

My name is Bryce, I'm 24, live in Auckland and I am in Clinical Research.

I drive a 1987 GTI 3 door. It has fully adjustable Patec suspension, Neuspeed strut bar, Prothane bushes, Autotech 270 cam, blah, blah, blah.

I've actually just been offered a job in Melbourne so I could be living in Oz within a month. Are there many 3 door GTIs in Oz?

Mate. I think there are maybe 5 2 door Mk2s in Oz. Not many Mk2s of any description. Bring yours with you mate. Looks great in the pics.

Welcome Bryce. Very clean GTI you got there. Not many 2 door GTI's in oz as they were all private imports like mine.

Well, I just accepted the Melbourne job offer so I'm on my way over. Probably won't bring the car to start off with as the cost will be too great (?,?,?). What would a nice rust free 3door 76-80 Mk1 cost? Anyone need a flatmate in Melbourne city (the company is on St Kildas Rd opp the gardens)?

Stay away from '76s (poorly made) and 77 on 3 doors are rare nowadays.

I was in Melbie a few weeks ago and there were loads of golfs driving round. I reckon you`d get a good un no worries.

Most 29 year old 77 GLS's are rooted by now so if one finds a good 76 isn't that better than a clagged out 77.
Those days of being choosy are gone.
My suggestion is to get a good one whatever the year or model and thank your lucky stars you found a mint one. :D
I have a mint 76 2 door and for 30 years old its not what I consider poorly made.

Yeah I agree with Golfwise! I have a 76 5 door, never been welded, no rust and its better than most of the others I see, especially the 2 doors that have been flogged by everyone. If you see a straight one, snap it up, never mind where it comes from.

Just as I was set to sign the contract for the Melbourne job a better Kiwi company came in and poached me!

Yay, I get to stay with my baby (my GTI :D ).
