Nice car, Mate! You're our first Kiwi so welcome aboard. Some of us are avid observers of "Trademe" (Golf Loon and I are registered) and we drool over the VW stuff for sale over there. In fact, it seems that you guys get a lot of the stuff we can't! We'd probably buy a lot of stuff but transport is a problem. Which part of NZ are you in? Can you add it to your profile? Visit and post often! (And if you hear of any Corrados for sale there are guys on this forum hungry for 'em!)

Ha, yeah maybe. I was just following Nigels lead.

My car is an NZ New '83 Golf GTI. 1800 5spd, factory Porsche metallic brown non sunroof model. Believed to be the only locally delivered car in that colour. All original condition and on 13 x 5.5 ATS rims.

Hi there guys

More kiwis here:) I am part of the VASK mob in nz too......www.vask.org.nz
Have been reading a bit about the cars you guys do not have in OZ......sounds quite sad mates, your import laws suck too.

Oh yeh, my 3dr is a 2L 8v AGG but in the next month or so its getting a 2L 16v ABF from a 5dr one i bought for just this swap.

The 3dr has Patec suspension 40/40 drop, coxspeed strutbrace, and a catfree Milltek exhaust plus some other stuff....shes just a daily, loves the open nz twisty roads tho

Been looking about for a mk1 Scirocco to restore as well, i had a 77 GLS 1.6 (prefacelift) for 8 years, and regret selling the rustbucket everyday....i really miss it

Many in OZ? Scirocco Storm facelift would be my top choice:D

Another Kiwi :)

Yes, you guys got lots that we didn't. Your mk2 sounds good and will get even better by the sounds of things.

Golf Loon had a Storm back in the UK.

Do many Mk2 diesels come up for sale?

The mk2 diesel? there are a couple about, in ok to tidy condition.
There was a white 88 5dr for sale in the paper here for $2500nz recently.

Also there is the odd mk1 diesel about, my mate has a blue 5door one.
It runs real well too:) He wants to fit a turbo to it!

We got the GTIs in the mk2 3 and 5door 8v and 16v and the Corrado 16v (KR 1.8 engines) sold here new too
and there is at least 2 import G60 and 3 VR6 Rados here. Mk1 golfs are about too, as is at least 25 GTIs in modded or original condition.
They are well loved and looked after, we dont salt the roads here either, but the humidity in the north island can make them prone to rust (mk1s & 2s) but this it not really a major.

We do have alot of B3 auto Passats here (2L 16v 9A) they are cheap to buy, about $500-$1500nz and are suited to swapping into a mk1 or 2 and just mating the mk2 8v gearbox to them, the guy who started this thread (nastnas) has done this :)

btw my cars are mk3s:D my 3dr is ex-uk, and the 5dr is ex-japan
We got the VR6 here in 3 and 5door, auto/5spd, GLI/CLI/Cabrio. And most of the Polos too. mk4/5 GTI/GLI/TDI/4motion V6/V5 was not sold here new in the 3dr, only the 5door. mk4 R32 was sold here in 3door. There are some mk4 R32 import 5doors about tho. We tend to avoid imports from Singapore here as the high humidity there can play havoc with the ECUs and electrics, when they are landed here. Second hand cars from Japan is for the most part, ok.

But we are getting 30 mk5 ED30s in 3dr in a month or so...
Sorry, i must stop i never realized Aussie got bugger all watercooled VW product from the last 30 years.
Why is that? you are a way bigger market than we are. Ill shut up
