I like what youve done on the bonnet and the way it matches up with the red around the grille. subtle and nice.
So whats next? Lower and front splitter?

Is that Vinyl or paint. (had mine done with paint, not with the red stripes though but changed it back)

Good job on the car (both getting it plus your mods) - need a remap at some stage too :)
How hard would it be to make vinyl versions of the CAMS tow point and battery location stickers?

They're the triangular stickers in this pic - the blue ones need to be 150mm wide and the red ones about 100mm wide (no clear regulation on this).
And can yellow and orange verions of the red tow sticker be made with the word "tow" in black?
I'm sure these would be popular with people who use their daily drives in CAMS speed events and don't want to buy and unpeel stickers for each event.

As per your question in the front mount thread (and answer), there's about half a dozen common, reputable tuners. There's a bulk of information on here, everything has likely been discussed many times. Best not to ask which one is best though... it is such personal preference, most people have been very happy with the product they went with (I'm chuffed with the results of mine). And from what I've seen of dyno figures, all within a whisker of each other, but the way in which they deliver the power does very.

If I had my time again, Giac. My APR is good, but the Giac is supposed to be a little more aggressive and is cheaper.
Lots of threads, have a read.

It's a remap - the company is just called SuperChips (they have a eeprom flashing unit called the BlueFin but it doesn't work with our Polos)
seangti just means that the throttle response is more aggressive so it may be harder to drive in a traffic crawl.
Site sponsors that do remapping include APR, Giac, Custom Code, DNA Tuning. Others include BSH, Oettinger...

most of us have a tune, APR is common, but not the only brand...
Didn't realise you'd done all that on a standard ECU, I'd be contemplating all the brands. Have a read around or PM me if you want to discuss.

I have a GIAC tune on an otherwise stock car. Have had it tuned for 2 years now with no dramas. I'm about to move to north QLD so I think I might need to look into a FMIC as the difference between a hot and cold day is much more noticeable after a tune.

PD160 and dump pipe would be your first point of call after the tune and bits you have listed in your sig.
Might want to think about cooler sparkplugs, summer (ie intercooler). You can have a think about adding timing through Lemmiwinks or something similar, contemplate the N249 bypass, SAI removal, etc. All depends on how much you want to tinker and how deep your pockets are...
We'd all be happy to see a BT Polo here, so feel free to jump in the deep end!

Pretty much as you said mate it's about the restrictions now starting with air intake as well as the tiny and very crappy flowing intake manifold. Then on the exhaust side the restrictive exhaust manifold and dump pipe. The cat back is actually fine for flow. Then the list goes on and on and on!
Anyway hope you enjoy the tune and I put $10 on you investigating a stage II tune upgrade and all the bits required for it by the end of the month :P

09-11-2011, 03:45 PM
Ha ha yeah couldn't resist sorry bud! From what I can remember of old dyno tests 3" dump pipes are total over kill for the polo and mess with back pressure. 2.5" has given very good and consistent results. Can anyone back me up with this, i can't remember how long ago I saw the results for the 3" dp?
Cheers!

My 2.5 APR downpipe works a treat with my GIAC tune. I would agree with VWindahouse about the 3" pipe, it would be too great a diameter for the engine.

I reckon the bonnet wrap really needs to be in a high gloss to look the goods. Could also consider going R spec on the bumper, so chrome up the centre black bits.

so last night i gave wrapping the front of my bumber in carbon fibre to see what the look would be like!
i was thinking maybe it may be alittle poxy, but over all i think it came out quite well, the only difficult bit i came across was the number plate box, the film didnt like the 90 degree cut in so i neatly trimmed them.
i took some photos last night as i was doing it=)

Wow. That is really nice. I generally don't like the look of the carbon wrap and that picture you googled IMO wasn't so crash hot but you must be a master at this sort of thing. Looks absolutely amazing

When you can get the stuff off another job would be great - the track season is pretty much finished for the year.
There are a few guys down here who are interested so we'll try to come up with a number for you

Yesterday i recieved my package from great Britain, opened it up to be introduced by, by far a much bigger pipe=)
put in on last night, (even in the sydney rain)
http://www.vwwatercooled.com.au/forums/images/imported/2011/12/IMG_1778-1.jpg
The size difference i saw on a fellow dubbers polo was huge but i didn't really realise until i put them next to each other,
its quite a huge difference
http://www.vwwatercooled.com.au/forums/images/imported/2011/12/IMG_1779-1.jpg
When i took the old one off, i saw the rock deflector everyone was talking about, i cut that off best i could with the tools i had at my girlfriends house, ( rusty stanley blade ) ha. ill have another go and do some clean ups tonight!
ill try and get it super smooth!
http://www.vwwatercooled.com.au/forums/images/imported/2011/12/IMG_1780-1.jpg
then put it all back together, squashed a finger or two, and it was in=)
http://www.vwwatercooled.com.au/forums/images/imported/2011/12/IMG_1781-1.jpg
the only thing i didnt get to do was, there is a gap diffence between the rock deflector piece, at the bottom!
did people just tape this closed?? what have some people done=)

I just did a straight swap with my pd160, I never read anyone's tutorial so didn't bother cutting the rock deflector thing out. I can't see it making any difference whatsoever. Apparently the pd160 is meant to be a bit of a placebo anyway haha!

I didn't bother cutting that piece out either, but am confident of the improvement over standard on a tuned car. The transition coming on to boost is smoother and pickup is smoother/marginally more responsive too (on my set up anyway). On factory tune, I'd likely agree with you.
As for improvement by cutting that flap out, I'd say F'all would be noticed, but will maintain my ignorance until proven wrong :-)

yeah im not confident on it, but in the end i guess i was just looking at it as if it could be a restriction then it can go!
