Looking good mate! LMs look sweet in 18s on a mk4, even if they are reps.
Looks good without the chrome and with the colourcoded valances

Thanks.
They are okay considering the price you pay for them. Around my area the roads are pretty good so no problems there but when travelling around city suburbs (Toorak) it's pretty bumpy which you could expect. Lucky I barely go to the city

What are the Drivers and tweeters in the pic, scanspeak, morel, dyn's ???

MCiN7
20-08-2012, 10:44 AM
Woofers: Peerless 830883 6-1/2" Nomex Cone HDS
Tweeters: Vifa NE19VTA-04 3/4" Aluminum Silk Surround
Mids: Tang Band W3-1364SA 3" Bamboo Cone

Sub: Mach 5 Audio IXL 18"

Also upgrading the CarPC, doing a bit too much audio processing for the current specs.

Most the the audio gear is for home theatre, car drivers are really expensive for what you get, same with source units.

KI11Z hopefully this explains more :)

Previous owner had a dodgy repairs done on the back panel and right side of the car, clear was delaminating a bit (bad prep, painted over dirt).
Apart from the delamination, the colour was pretty dead in the sun.

White plates with black writing??? Subtle and plain....
Nice idea Woody! I'll have a look once all the new parts are on.

Today I have started the upgraded CarPC, didn't know if the old one was going to cope with all the processing that's about to happen

ASRock 880GM-LEFX
AMD FX 4100 4-Core
G.Skill Ripjaws X F3-10666CL9Q (2x4GB) DDR3
OCZ Agility 3 60GB SSD

Parts from previous CarPC:
2x ASUS Xonar D1 soundcards (High quality stereo - RCA cables are too thick you can only place 1 cable per 2 ports)
I need 2 of these because I have 4 channels (tweeters, mids, woofers, sub)
M4-ATX 240W power supply

Also another thing to note is that every wire to do with the CarPC/speakers/amplifiers have been replaced and re-run.

Was never happy with the setup in the rear (looks + functionality - if I take out the sub the amp rack was still in the way).

Got to spend a heap more time on everything and it's paying off.

I've also relocated the battery to the spare wheel well as it never fit properly in the engine bay (d31a).

In terms of looks for the new setup, the fibreglass part will be painted for ILV as I won't have enough time to get it trimmed. I will eventually get it trimmed in fake leather.
The false floor still needs a window cutout but the false floor and side trims will be trimmed in black carpet.

Beauty of this setup is that I've still got a heap of room, and I can take the subs out easily.
Disadvantage though is that I won't have deep bass like I did (not enough volume to tune low) so I'll eventually need to get some new subwoofers.

hey, really like your body work, especially the color.
my car was silver when i first bought it but it's reflex silver after my special care...
anyway, the bonet of my car looks like mat silver with lots of stone chips because the previous owner gave it a hard time...I guess...lol
the car looks pretty shining after wash every time but i still can see lots of scratches and some paint job done to it...
i'm thinking about palladium silver (similar like yours) and here comes to my question:
How much is the respray job for your mk4?

Cheers

I was working at the place at that time, so I only needed to pay for paint (Glasurit) and some labor (rubbed most the car back myself), so what I could tell you and what it actually costs is going to be way out of the ballpark figure.

A respray including door jams is a heap more expensive compared with outside only.

Thread update:

Conversion itself is complete
http://img96.imageshack.us/img96/9963/en0q.jpg

2.5" exhaust, 1 resonater, stainless (rear) muffler
http://img266.imageshack.us/img266/8742/ycji.jpg

20-100 6.23s

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OK9UdVEWzWk

So, the time has almost arrived to start my conversion.

I'm doing a VR6 conversion on the Golf, I have a few reasons but the main two reasons are;
The dreadful TCC slip on the 01M and that I'd also like some more power.
Transmission I could replace, but for the money I'd eventually run into the same problem and that does not solve the power issue.

It will be done in 2 stages:
1. Standard VR6 and Manual conversion (V5 Gearbox) - to be done within the next couple of months hopefully.
2. Head swap - will be doing a P&P on the head and matching intake/exhaust manifolds ports - cams, intake/exhaust to go along with.

The first stage should be fairly straight forward, need to do some wiring but that should be pretty simple (I hope), if I get stuck there's a whole auto to manual thread on vortex (http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?4897603-01M-to-02J-transmission-swap-on-my-2001-Jetta-2.0-(AZG)-silver/page4).

*Insert blah blah blah you could just buy a 1.8t comment here*
Could have done a 1.8T, but 'dat sound' cannot be replaced.

Donor car (V5 Manual) and 24v VR6 engine have been purchased.

Here's a picture of my car at the moment:
http://img35.imageshack.us/img35/2485/27983110151409303377054.jpg

http://img694.imageshack.us/img694/556/90131317159682966939718.jpg

This weekend will consist of interior swapping, retrofitting the heated seats and removing my CarPC/stereo.

Things I have already done:
312mm front brakes

One driveshaft has split an inner CV boot but it was not clunky when driving so a new boot should do the trick.

I cleaned a few places to see what the surface should look like with AutoSmart's 'Wheel King', pretty strong stuff but it's a big no no around plastics.
http://img4.imageshack.us/img4/2107/f242.jpg

Going to rebuild the starter while I've got easy access - can't hurt and at least I can give it a good clean.
Will also be re-doing all the CV boots.

V5 becoming less and less.

I think I've finalized my parts list

Engine/Gearbox:
Exhaust manifold gaskets
Intake manifold gasket
Dipstick
Non-aircon belt
Coolant temp sensor
Belt tensioner - V5 tensioner is different
Water pump - didn't need replacing but may as well
SAI blockoff
SMF and clutch - 12v vr6 parts
CV boots

General:
Banjo bolts
FSB bolts - lost these when I removed mine
Cloth webbed tape - plan on moving some things as my battery is in the spare wheel well
Red split wire loom - make the coil leads prettier as the intake manifold is going gloss black

Suspension etc:
Urethane real coil spring isolators
Urethane control arm bushings - This and below item are wheel hop eliminator kit
Urethane dog bone inserts
Outer tie rod ends
Rear axle bushings - need to take half of it off to change one of the brackets, so may as well
Upper strut bearings
Ball joints
H&R 26mm FSB - need to put one in as I chopped the old one out when I was lower - plan on getting the 28mm adjustable RSB at a later date to help with the known understeer
Ball join extender/camber control
Powerflex black strut top bushing - sick of replacing the standard tops so often (one is already cactus at 3000km's)

Brakes:
Front - already have 312mm - going drilled and slotted rotor
Rear - drilled and slotted rotor - pads to come at a later date
Braided lines front and rear

Tools - need to get the job done somehow:
Spreader tool
Long reach triple square set
Brake piston retraction set
Tie rod separator
Torque wrench

Other:
Drivers side engine loom (with 4 o2 sensors ><)
Drive by wire throttle body
Drive by wire accelerator pedal
2x injector plugs, one is missing one is broken

Reason for all the suspension parts - being low ****s your bushings, not low anymore, weird clunks, track time.
Track time will come after new coilovers & RSB, looking at H&R - hopefully from a local source as postage is killer from O.S - not to mention import tax.

Hopefully this will give you people some insight as to what's going to happen apart from engine side of things.

Confirmed that I've got another car to use from tomorrow - get to start pulling the Golf to pieces :D

If you say so :D, may need to remove the dash for DBW conversion, checking if someone has a loom available.
Removing the dash is not so bad - removing the steering wheel will be a first for me and apparently a pita but the rest is straight forward

Keep it up.

Thanks!

Can't report on much - waiting on quite a few parts :).

Seeing as though I'm getting all the required looms, wiring won't be a problem but I'm starting to think about bleeding the brakes with no/part fluid in the lines - have had a low pedal before and don't want that again. My best bet may be to get the car towed to a vw specialist or vw themselves to hook up a machine.

Gave the engine bay a degrease, scrub and gerni...so much cavity wax everywhere (possible previous owner front smash, have never seen so much cavity wax on places that it doesn't need to be). Also needed to clean up some CV grease as I had a split boot.

Cheers - Going to have a heap of air in the system, maybe not be from the top end, although I've got to add the clutch/lines which I have to cut a nipple on the reservoir (some fluid will escape)...BUT...stainless brake line kit which includes front, mid & rear, so I will have air in the lines in many places, not just at the ends.

If I fill a Power Bleeder up with a few litres of fluid it may be okay, but I wonder if it's just easier for VW to hook up their machine.
I just don't want a low pedal again :D

15-08-2013, 10:38 AM
You can get a good pedal just letting the fluid flow under gravity, if you have got tons of air in the pipes. Then go around the system again and start at the master cylinder which everyone forgets about.

Last package arrived today, more of a cosmetic item than anything.

4995

Put the new electrical version of the blower box thingy in, which meant I could start running the wires throughout the car - but decided not to as yet due to the below

Got stuck into repairing more of the wiring. The fuse box was on the agenda tonight, got most of it done.
I don't really feel comfortable using heat shrink as some of the wires are the same colour. Some decent electrical tape applied neatly should do the trick.

49944996

I also need to mod my brake pedal to allow for DBW accelerator, so the dash will not be going back in until that is complete.

Fuse box is wired up! Not going to put the dash in until I know most things are working (awaiting on new ABS module with ESP module as the connector is completely different)

I've mated the rear Bora loom with the Golf - few gremlins but I'll sort them out.

5105

Todo with the wiring: swap headlight connectors from bora - golf. Wire up new stalks with cruise control and 'mode' button. Install fuse for heated seats.

Brave man for tackling all of that.

Thanks mate!

Hmm what do I have to report on...

Have mainly been repairing wiring
I have finally received the flywheel - was supposed to have come with my clutch but they forgot to send it .
Got a 12v vr6 Sachs SMF and clutch combo (02J box) - don't plan on going turbo, would be something like ITB's & standalone if I wanted to step it up a bit.

5168

One of my rear brake lines had cracked, so went to the wreckers yesterday afternoon while it was raining and got a replacement...that was good fun!

Last night, I replaced the ABS unit - moved up to the ABS unit with ESP to suit the 4motion loom.
Problem with that: brake lines are mounted completely different at the unit - I managed to replace all the front lines (master cylinder - unit, brakes - unit) and one of the rear lines (one was too short to 'bend', luckily this was the cracked one which worked out well).

5169

Also fitted the flywheel and ran the wiring looms to the back section. I am pretty confident with the loom now - rear section has 1 gremlin - left parker is always on so may need to swap around a wire - everything else seems to be working!

Couple of things to do tonight, fit the clutch, bolt gearbox to engine & replace rear ABS plugs (they're different on a 4mo).

All good - ABS/ESP module is all good.
Whoever at VW that decided the heated seats and ABS should both be the same coloured wires are geniuses... :P - I hadn't connected the 'heated seats' yet but turns out I didn't connect the ABS instead.

Had Josh help bleed the brakes & clutch today.
5204

Good to have a face again.
5205

- I need to get a different version of the passenger side power steering line - auto version must be different as there's no way it will reach unless you start bending the pipes
- Missing a few coolant lines, might need to do a Frankenstein and get some random sizes/bends from supercheap/repco/autobarn
- Missing the plastic tube that runs from rocker cover to intake boot
- Still need to repair 1 rear parker
- Interior is still in pieces - need to make a plate for my dbw accelerator as the firewall is different on RHD DBC/DBW cars.

Man it's been a while.

Update I guess:
The car has been running great.
The coilovers failed (shaft dropped straight to the bottom one day upon changing strut tops) so have the standard suspension in.
Finally got around to getting a new clock-spring, no more air-bag warning and the horn works.

The paint is not so pretty any more;
1. Got a slight scratch in a carpark, no note left
2. Someone ran into me on the on ramp to a freeway (let this go as there was only a slight chip)
3. An old lady went into the back wheel/bumper area and she wouldn't give me her details and just gave up as she kept making excuses
4. Right side of my car got egged, both doors have chipped paint
5. Stonechips.

Decided to do a 3-way setup in the front again (I still have the CarPC which is currently mounted behind the dash, but will be moved back to the back left corner of the hatch). More updates will follow.

Also got some BMW Breytons 18*8.5 which I need to fix up, won't be fitted until I get coils again.

Looking forward to some more updates on this Matt.

Yep!

Some updates:
CarPC is back in the hatch - I had it behind the dash but it didn't have enough airflow. Audio processing takes its toll on the CPU.

Have done the sail panel and A-pillar pods but only up to resin at this stage. Fibreglass to follow when I've got some time off work.
Have also done a quick time alignment and getting a better sound stage this time (off-axis). Last time (which was on axis) I was getting really bad reflection on the drivers side.

Happy how these turned out with no glass/filler yet. Best thing is the trim can be returned back if need be.
