hey guys,
My mum's 2008 Polo has the plastic cracked on the instrument panel. She went to her local VW dealership (who to be honest, I don't trust), and they told her she needs to buy a whole new instrument panel for $500+.
All that needs to be replaced, is the plastic.
Are VW speaking the truth? Or should I get her to take the car elsewhere?

Call a few VW Spare Parts depts at various dealers. Make sure you have the VIN for your mum's car with you before doing so.
Describe the part and see what happens.
If they all tell you that you need the entire cluster, then that's your answer.
If at least one is able to find a part number for just the plastic, then get that.
if its the clear plastic in front of the cluster then yes VW only sell a complete cluster. Not just the plastic piece. Maybe have a chat to some places that do plastic or gauge repairs? They may be able to offer an economic solution

same thing happened to our car. no idea how it happened aswell. oh well, car is being traded in
I've always wondered if you could replace just the plastic, but on top of that, I've always wondered how it happened?
Anyhow, good luck
