Tyre Replacement - after < 15k you have to be kidding. Continentals 225/40 R18.

Took my Superb for it's first service 14800 km done. I've had my car - brand new since Feb. Service department says both front tyres badly worn and require replacement. After 15k!!!

They are Continentals 225/40 R18.

I would have expected to get at least twice this.

Anyone else having problems?

Hmm.....thats not normal. Do you notice them spinning when taking off? I've got 225/40R18 Michelins on my Octy RS and they have done 36k and still have heaps left on them. Rotated every 15,000kms. Are they worn evenly or has alignment killed them?

Apparently both badly worn on insides. Never had any spinning (4x4).

Happened to us with our RS (admittedly twice). The rear camber is set up at a very negative angle (that's very vague in description so if anyone has anything else to add, please do. Keep the smartassness to a minimum in lieu of my crappy answer however :P). We've never had to keep an eye on tyres so much....

Make sure you re-set the tyre pressure monitor too lol, we also forgot that...

So, how often did you check the tyre pressure and how many kPa or PSI did you put in? :)

There is also the possibility that the wheel alignment was not done before you picked it up.
My jetta has 18" wheels and the first set of tyres lasted about 35000 k's.
Changed the tyre type and have recently changed that set at 92000k's.
As others have said too you need to keep on top of tyre pressures and rotations to maximize tyre life.

Worn edges mean the wheel alignment is wrong. I'd say that there is too much camber adjustment causing the front tyres to effectively be rolling on the inner edges rather than flat on the entire tread.
Take the car to a tyre specialist for a second opinion and also a recommended solution. Car workshops are generally not tyre experts.

Agree with all the above and really would hold the dealer accountable. They probably full well know what caused it, did they offer a fix rather than just saying you need new tyres?

Had dinner last night with a mate who has just sold his Jax tyre business. He said that;

a) No way should that tyre only last 15k
b) Inner wear is due to poor wheel alignment
c) He said that you should now ask the dealer for documentation stating that an alignment was done in the factory
d) Of course the dealers first response will be that you have put it out of alignment whilst driving it -

He says for years, whenever he knows someone who has bought a new car - he gets them to bring it in to check the alignment. Lots of times they are completely out of wack.

He has discussed this issue with many dealers over the years - most don't give a **** about it. In fact one dealer once said to him in response 'Oh, it just means we get to interact with the customer more'

I don't like my chances.........

I must be lucky then, I never ever had a wheel alignment done on any new car we bought. I got the wheels balanced only when a new tyres fitted. :)

But, if I would go for wheel alignment. I wouldn't go to the place where they sell tyres, it would go to the suspenssion specialist.

Yeah I've never had issues either, I don't know whether cars are aligned locally once landing here, but with the variablity and certain dealers having issues like this and not others I do wonder whether some get it checked as part of the delivery. Put it this way, I've never seen it with a good car dealer....

I have to replace my front tyres too.. The v6 Superb is a front tyre decimator. 15k on mine and they are 3/4 worn.. Back tyres look like new. WTF?

I got a wheel alignment on my Golf after 2000kms, yep it was out from the factory, and the alignment made the turn in noticeably sharper.

Get a wheel alignment, cheap insurance for getting your 18s to 20,000kms.

Just wondering if they are CSC2. I went through a full set of CSC2 on my RS in 15k which included wheel alignments and rotations via an excellent tyre/suspension workshop. They're to soft for Australian roads, I liked them as a tyre but PS3 are much better.

I've never had great experiences with dealers and wheels alignments and I know when i got the RS the alignment was way out even if its was a factory alignment.

I was a bit disappointed to see that I could not adjust the camber on the front, i've always been farly aggressive here. The rears however with the factory camber, I do have the rears poining in slightly to offset the potential scrubbing on the inside this setup has been 100% no scrubbing at all.

If i actually got 15k on a front set of CSC2 without rotation, i'd be stoked.

They are CSC2 not a very impressive tyre at all.

Well i have gone for Michelin PS3 and the car has been transformed.. A tiny more road noise, but so much better than the Conti's.

Ill provide some more information as they wear in.
