Hi All

I have been trying to work out why my heated rear window does not work

I have checked the fuse and switch which seem to be ok. I put a 12v circuit testing light across the fuse however there wasno power... it this normal when the demister switch is turned on?

Tried to read the Haynes manual circuit diagrams to determine wire colours etc, and see where the issues could be but no luck so far

What could it be?

Has anyone repaired theirs in the past? Any tricks to be aware of?

I thought if the switch was on there should be power at the fuse. I have also checked to see if there is power at the rear window but nothing...

Thanks for any advice

If there's no power at the fuse then something is wrong. When the demister switch is turned on (together with the ignition switch) there should be power at the fuse.

Are you checking the right fuse? I have a Hayes manual and a Bentley and both have the wrong wiring for my fusebox. My car was probably rewired sometime in it's 33 year past by someone who had no idea what they were doing.

Cheers

Hi Paul

My Haynes manual says fuse number 5, which seems to be ok. However there is no power gong to it. Maybe behind the fuse box? There is no power going to the switch either....

It could be the relay I guess, where would I get another one? At least I could eliminate this as well

I did a search and came up with this however the wires at the hatchback top seemed to be ok as well

How would I check the relay?

Thanks

Hi All

Yesterday I undid the + battery terminal on the red GLD and undid the screw which holds the fuse box in place, pulled it forward and had a look around and found a grey/green wire with a white connector just sitting at the back of the fuse box. There was no other grey/green wire back there with a connector to join it too

I remember that the circuit diagram had a grey/ green wire for the demister - I just have to work out where it goes on the back of the fuse box. Back to the circuit diagram I guess to work out where it goes....

Hopefully this will give me power to fuse number 5 to get the demister to work

i read this thread the other day, and it made me go check mine.

I get power at fuse box, power at switch, then power at the wire on rear window.
But, i dont think its actually working, it fogged up a bit last night and i had it on for atleast 10 mins and nothing... Idea's?

Maybe some of the copper wires on the rear window are broken or have a gap along each line however I have read that they all should not be broken so you should get some effect from having the demister working at least

I have a Passat CC and it also has issues with the rear demister, However, in this case the demister is working but it takes way too long to clear even a small amount of mist. It took well over 10 min before I noticed that it was working.
