hey guys, i recently just installed my RCD510 on my 08 R32 which already had the factory bluetooth which ran from my old RCD300. Im basically unable to find the setting to turn the bluetooth on on the system itself. Im trying to connect my Blackberry and it just cant seem to find anything when it searches for it?

Ive looked on the net but i am struggling to find any sort of help on this. Any ideas?

Cheers

Tim

I'm not 100% certain but I think the rns510 uses a different bluetooth kit to the rcd300. Can find out for you tomorrow at work when I query some of the lads. If it is compatible it's more then likely going to be re-coded at a dealer

Do you mean the RCD510 haha. i was told it was completely compatible with my current bluetooth system......so its a recoding issue, i guess vagcom is the answer?

I think it depends on which bluetooth module you have (Volk-l, 9w2, 9w3 etc). With my module (Volk L), there isn't any settings in the RCD 510 to enable the bluetooth.

I installed my bluetooth to my RCD510 a couple of days ago and it wouldn't work (can't find the VW UHV) until it was coded up properly.

Are you able to scan for fault codes?

Yea, i was just playing around with it then and read the manual and there should be a telephone option in the menu settings but it is not showing up. Im also able to enable the bluetooth streaming as an option but it just cant find it. I managed to connect to egotalk on my phone but still it doesnt register.

I dont actually have a way to search for fault codes?? How did you code it up properly?

Yeah you can enable "BT audio" in the settings menu but its greyed out i guess.

i coded it up following the instructions (3x hex values) but that's for Volk L. If you have 9w3 or higher then it's more settings.

Does the bt have voice control and/or address book on your MFD?

Where abouts are you? many people here have VAGCOM and can scan/code for you. I'm in Chadstone/Mulgrave area and can help if you're nearby. :)

Ohhh that would be great mate im just 10 mins down the road in canterbury on canterbury rd. If you could give me a hand that would be great! When is a good time?

It just seems to be that its connecting but its not engaging from the bluetooth to the RCD510.....im fairly new to all this stuff, so still learning as i go.

I have an EGOTAlK system and im thinking that this may not be a kit that will work with the RCD 510??

I just read through this and according to some of the posts the EGO TALK is not a genuine vw product and they went bust. Looks like i might have to get a new bluetooth kit.......

You need to recode the headunit to know that it has bluetooth

Yeah the problem is that the egotalk is not registered on the cangateway therefore if telephone module is enabled,a faultcode will come up.

O/T: but was the install painful? inexpensive? Im thinking of upgrading mine but dunno if i can be bothered or not.. The units are pretty cheap now.

Nah the install was quite easy there is plenty of videos and how tos and it quite basic took me about 45mins for the whole process.

Just been mucking around with going from rcd500 to rcd510 with a parrot bluetooth. The phone still sees the Ego bluettooth and can connect but it doesn't work - no sound, no mic. I think the way out of issues is to buy a newer BT module.

From what I have seen, there could be either coding or a mod done to the loom/connector to get it to work.

I'll see if I can find the link and post it up.

My BT isn't that great anyway but I CBF installing a new one.

Bringing up a thread from the past but does anyone know if there is an easy way to tell which Bluetooth module I have in my car? I am unsure if its a VW one or EGO, and I'm about to buy an RCD510 but don't know if ill go down that route if it means I will have to replace the BT module.

What I can tell you is it is an MY08 GTI, it has the full screen MFD. It has the phone button on the steering wheel which when you hold down for 10 seconds brings up VWUHF on my phone as a BT device, I can answer and hang up calls only from that button on the steering wheel. The stock rcd500 has no phone buttons and no way of controlling the phone when paired. My gut tells me its an early genuine VW BT module, perhaps Volk L, which from what ive read on this thread will require some vag coding to work with an RCD510.
