Was a great day at Wakefield yesterday. Good to see a reasonable watercooled turnout. There was even a decent mk1 contingent! Was good to meet some of you, and to see some of the old and the late model cars battling it out. And most of all I'm glad my old mk1 managed to survive the drive down, the thrashing and the drive home again...

That was a fun day. I had the Blue Golf R and was trying hard to better Adams time in the R36. Sam Wood in the very worked Mk6 GTI got down to 1:11.6 and I couldn't get near that on street tyres. Adam and I ended up separated by exactly 1/1000 if a second, with him the faster.
In the end my 1:13:0501 couldnt beat his 1:13:0491:facepalm:
I'd be interested if anyone had piccies or video too.

Oops, I need to correct my signature. I now have an APR TBE, APR HPFP and APR tune to match that. Still can't decide on what CAI and IC to get.

I noticed how close you and Adam were. Its a cruel world :D If semi's give you the same improvement as they did Adam, you can expect to shave about 1/2 sec. His previous best was 1:13.5 on street tyres. Doesn't seem to yield as big an improvement for the AWD cars.
I want to know how on earth I can ever find over 1 second to get close to Sam's mk6!

Yes, 1 second takes a lot. Sam was very clean around the track. He puts a lot into that car. Engine, suspension, lightening, tyres etc and lots of experience. I'd like to ride with him for a few laps and see what he does differently.

Wait until you see someone like Warren Luff take a GTI around in the high 1.08's - that will open your eyes too
Good job to all who attended, hopefully I will be back next year.
How many runs did you get & how many laps per run?

After freezing my bum off in a cabin and had no sleep due to texting some drunk slapper from Melbourne all night I woke to -2 and sun.

Well done to all teh guys that gout out there and had a go. This track is so well suited to the smaller FWD's.
And 111 you are a demon behind the wheel of that wagon.
Pity about the VL crummydore dumping all his auto trans fluid.

Hey dubmc, so that was your yellow mk1? Did I talk to you during the day? Man Your car sits low :)
I don't have a build thread sorry, I built the car about 4 years ago and I was always really slack with photos. As for the wilwoods, they are amazing. I always end up braking too early.
James you left your dad off the list!:D His car is awesome, man it revs. Sammy was actually the fastest watercooled vw of the day NATSOFT Race Result (http://www.natsoft.com.au/cgi-bin/results.cgi?21/05/2011.WAKE.S3.Y)
But Adam sure does drive the wheels off his R36. Thats his work car, stock with 120k kms on it. He just takes out his work tools and puts the semis on and thats it.

Ahhhh true.
According to the Motec the olman did a high 1:13 before lunch (and before the trans fluid) pity timing only started after lunch.
But awsome day...
