Holly VW day Batman!!!

Look's like everyone had a awesome day of driving & plenty of pics to show too!

Wish I'd had of been there myself. Plenty of new GTI's & Polo's, that for sure.

I reckon I might hold on to all of my mk1 stuff as going by these pic's, there aren't many on the road anymore.

Fantastic effort by the organiser's & all who attended.
I give you the big thumb's up.

I'm with brackie & say that all of this is for a great cause.

Well done fellas, congrats on a fantastic turnout and a bidding farewell to Jasmin as I am sure that John and the rest of her family would have approved.

Great to see so many VW's out there and about. Even better to see that there are so many vr6's out there I thought we were rare:(

Never the less, a great day and I'm sure many friendships will be started from this.

This also gives a kick in the dumb for all other states to do the same thing as well!!!

Mate, I reckon it looks the part! After seeing what you've done, I'm contemplating it too!

If it was on my car, I would have preferred it if it was sitting on the bottom of the windscreen as its resting position. Subtle mods ftw :)

Oh and also:

Shame there is one less MKII in the world now :(

Will details of what actually happened come to light or is the "incident" to be the topic that isn't to be spoken about?

We should only talk of it if the owner instigates the conversation. If he doesn't, then that's the end of it.

I agree that it is a shame that it occured.

Cars can be replaced.......people can't :)

the only reason why me and golf me up caught up to any of you guys ie: dave and jayson was because of the crash.

i do have to say next time we are on a crusie is someone has a problem the last car who has a walkie talkie should stop and check everything is ok.

twice i stopped and not one person stop to check if i was alright with the car, the group just kept driving. on the second leg golfme_up's brakes were smoking so i pulled him ova and we waited about 7 mins for them to cool down, then when we got to the bottom of the hill everyone was gone, and from this we made a wrong turn and had to do a big loop, during the hole day i used a whole tank of gas

and then when we got to the second leg stop at the bridge no cars were there so we tried to call the numbers on the paperwork but to no answers, so we just kept going untill we came across the red mk2 in someones yard and then we had a 3 cars cruise to the fish and chip shop

Hey Tam,
You missed out on a interesting day!

Would have been nice to see another MKII there to break up the sea of MKV golf's and Polo's.

Have to admit that I unfortunately felt a little "un-welcome" at this event, this might have been partly because we were left behind after I suffered some brake trouble.

What ever happened to the guy at the back of the pack, keeping an Eye on things?

Thanks to one member for being the nice guy he is and stopping for me!
:)
We then both got lost and had to find our way back to the pack. Luckily bumped into DOHCDave and G60Jay just after Natural Arch, ;)

Shout out to Golfer though for doing his best at organising what has to be the biggest meet so far.!

Even if I did get the feeling that the owners of "older" cars were not welcomed as much as owners of newer models, it was a fun day, it was worth the wait for those fish and Chips and getting together to support Golfers loss.

I realise next time to bring my mums MK5 and a walkie talkie, lol

The Maroon blood that flows through my Queenslander veins senses a challenge in those words. The next get together will be bigger we hope. It is no mean feat to get that many cars together for a long drive like we had. Round trip for me was about 400klm from home and back. I'm sure that with a shorter round trip and a slightly later start (for all the sleepy heads) we'll get bigger numbers next time.

I'm sure that you guys will and we hope so for the good of this forum, we did about 200kms round trip so it wasn't to bad.

04-06-2007, 06:16 PM
the only reason why me and golf me up caught up to any of you guys ie: dave and jayson was because of the crash.

i do have to say next time we are on a crusie is someone has a problem the last car who has a walkie talkie should stop and check everything is ok.

twice i stopped and not one person stop to check if i was alright with the car, the group just kept driving. on the second leg golfme_up's brakes were smoking so i pulled him ova and we waited about 7 mins for them to cool down, then when we got to the bottom of the hill everyone was gone, and from this we made a wrong turn and had to do a big loop, during the hole day i used a whole tank of gas

and then when we got to the second leg stop at the bridge no cars were there so we tried to call the numbers on the paperwork but to no answers, so we just kept going untill we came across the red mk2 in someones yard and then we had a 3 cars cruise to the fish and chip shop
I dont think this is very fair mate...alot of work goes into organising and holding a cruise or gtg and for not much thanks.the guy at the end is doing it to help any stragglers and we have never had anyone doing this.its your responsibility to keep up,anyway you had a map!!maybe next time, you could be the one ddoing this job???
id like to know shaneth why you wont do another cruise??? even though I told you this would be your first and last cruise organisation.I know how you feel.

id like to know shaneth why you wont do another cruise???

Mate its because a few of the guys have posted negative responses almost personal attacks towards me. And knowing how much time and MONEY i dedicated to this cruise. Not to mention the stress involved. Perosnally if thats the response i get even by the minority i would rather wait for someone else to do it. Hell i organised last one and did a major part of this one, its about time someone else did a bit of the work. Thanks golfer for everything you did to organise this cruise. Especially through such tough times. I to am proud of you.

and after the symbolism of this cruise, you would have thought that any complaints would have been kept to a pm.Instead of ditching the cruise, which I would have done in Jons shoes,he kept his word and dedicated the cruise to his JAZ...did you guys forget this ?? this is just a huge negative on such a even more huge and fantastic cruise.
congratulations again Jon and Shane!!! for the sake of our MOSTLY GREAT members, dont allow this to dampen your spirits!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

much respect go's out to the guys to the guys who organized the cruise, i know i could not have done it, i was just making point so we can resolve this issue for the next cruise cause the whole point of a cuise is for everyone to go together and if someones car breaks down there are other people to lend a hand or a spare seat for the rest of the cruise.

This was suppose to be a fun and great day, no need to talk poo to people.

Stop and consider this:

At least 2 people put in a lot of time and effort to get this event off the ground. Its success or failure depends not just upon them, but upon all of the participants
A "cruise" is a cruise. Not a race
As soon as you get out onto the road and mix it with other road users you have a responsibility to them, not only to other cruise participants
Cruises are not convoys and never will be as long as they are held on public roads. If you want a convoy hire a race track for a day and drive around it together
When you mix "Old Skoolers" with R32s and Mk5 GTIs there is a huge difference in ability. You can't expect them to stay together in performanceGuys, I'm disappointed in the way that this thread has progressed. I want you all to remember the its intent and the friendly, cooperative ethos that this forum upholds. At least the fish and chips ended the day well.

bombsquad21

Being neither from the old skool or the new skool with my Mk3 I can probably suggest that the older cars are generally just as hard to keep up with, I sorted a few things on my car prior to cruise..(expensive week last week) for my enjoyment, reliability and because I wanted to do a better job of keeping up than I did on the first run. The organization was exemplary, the behavior of the drivers was outstanding and the route was well planned and mapped.

Great to meet more friendly VW drivers, shame I had to take off straight after my "family feast" cause I had to make it from Tweed Heads to Brisbane Airport in 1hr 30mins for work. I drove nearly 400km for the day and used only 2/3rds of a tank of 98octane...oh and it only took me 1hr 10mins to get to the apt from the fish and chip shop, hope there aren't any unwelcome photos of my car on the cruise heading my way!

Awesome day...

It was a good day fellows - great job in organising!

it will always be hard to keep everyone together.

i remember seeing the bonnet up on a MKii or iii at some stage & one - I had no where to pull up, and then as I tried to pull over, the 5 cars behind me all tried to do the same. I then realised I had no idea where we had to go so I thought it best to catch up with the cars in front. Didn't help that I didnt have a radio either!

look forward to the next one :)

John, Shane... just fantastic. I had such a good time, i didnt even know things like this happened before i joined this forum, and i had no idea it would be that awesome. You guys did an excellent job organising the event and i extend many, many thanks to you for it. Was the first time i'd had a real chance to the stretch the legs on my VR6 for more than a couple of minutes at a time, and i was very impressed with its performance, and the cars around me. My fuel consumption was insane though, average 9.2 L/ 100 kms, over 380 kms. Only got to the halfway mark of my full tank as i arrived home. How did this happen when i spent most of the time in 2nd and 3rd gear?! And why can't i use this little fuel the rest of the time. Anyway, thankyou again to john and shane, this was an excellent ode to jasmin's memory, anyone would be proud to have 25 VWs honouring them.

Hey everyone great cruise. Been on all three SEQ runs to date and all have been great and can only get better with learnings from the others. Great to learn more about my own car and as well as other cars and drivers. Followed Guy H for a time so has a good mentor to aspire to. Saw lots of smiles on faces even if at times it was in the mirror from someone behind me wanting me to go faster. I think I need to attend one of Guy's DriveGTi training sessions to learn how to appreciate my car more. Hey Dr Spine shame you and your dad didn't get to the fish and chip spot next to the river. I threatened to see if he could swim after his comment of "Cars are only for getting from a to b" - sacriledge. All in fun though as is the context we should keep both the cruise and the forum. Keep up the good work. I was buggered by the time I got back to Brisbane to pick my missus up. I even let her drive back to Toowoomba. Shame me sitting in the drivers seat of the GTI when sober. Thanks John and Shane.

... that my bro Pete took on the cruise. He did about 33 minutes getting most areas but his battery was low so he couldn't just film it all (shame really ... missed some of the quicker bits - no ... I didn't say FAST ... we were all pretty well behaved ... considering the traffic and narrowness of some of the roads).

It'd probably be pretty boring for non-Dubbers ... but I enjoyed watching it and seeing all those cars again. Soon as it is digitised I'll post on YouTube.

I counted 32 at KKs and we picked up 3 more along the way, so 35 at Liverpool and Probably 25 by Mt Kiera:
The 20 dubs that stopped at the side of the freeway in protest may have helped too :D

this post was from the jan cruise thread..
actually we had 35,,but lost alot,at least 7 as we headed off, made it to the lookout and we had 25 .then by the time we made it to the destination ,we had about 10 or so,,,,

whos the best so far guys?????how many did you loose towards the end?????:D

There were 3 of us that turn up a little later as we were cleaning up the mess up the mountain.
And i would consider G60 Jay as still there although his car was still up the hill...... poor bugger.
I'm not sure if DR spine went to the end but think we only lost 1or2
So would estimate around 23 that were still there in the end.

Spoke to Pete today. He's getting the movie digitised within the week and I'm getting ADSL2 this weekend. Put the two together and it means I can load the movie up for all to see some time next week.
