Hi All,
While I await delivery of my new Golf GTi I am re registering my 1975 Passat TS. Owned it since it was 10 months old and it has been off the road for 11yrs in my garage. It is currently in near original condition and is driveable, I just need to tidy up a couple of things to put it on the road again. Once its registered I plan to refresh the engine internals, part supply willing.
Will take photos of the old and the new together next month when the Golf arrives.

One job I have to do is the replacement of the steel fuel tank. Anyone help with a source of parts? Can the later plastic tank be sourced and fitted? Rubber strip at leading edge of boot lid needs replacing. Is there a source of rubber bits?

Maybe get a tank from another B1 passat from a wrecking yard, and see if they fit?? Im not sure where to source the rubbers, If you find an answer to that let me know because I also need a crap load of rubber's including window and boot rubbers.

All Im certain is that I know I cant wait a month to see pics, please get a few up sooner rather than later..........Pretty Please!!!!

Awesome stuff! Can't wait to see pics mate.

Check out Mk1 Autohaus on Ebay for rubbers. The bastard isn't cheap, but he has most stuff.

If you need engine hardware etc and are having trouble finding it I can most likely source that for you. :)

Hey guys,
Just got the "yellow cupboard ' out of the garage this weekend to see what's required for rego and get a few photos. The list for rego is a bit longer than I'd hoped but what the heck. Car has unusual electrical issues ( some lights come at the strangest times) and there is a petrol leak from the accelerator pump. The brakes work but I intend giving them the new seals etc. A new radiator is required so I may bring the top end overhaul forward and do it now while I wait for parts and fuel tank repairs.
Would love to have uploaded some pictures but it seems I don't have the necessary privileges at the moment. Can't do attachments etc.

Hi, I might be able to help....

I bought this steering wheel back in 1995 from a dealer here in adelaide with the horn button. I had a factory sunroof TS back then...I used it for two weeks, then took it back off the car. Take a close look at the grain on the back of the wheel rim.... you will not see that again!! The horn button was also new, has a small scratch which I think will polish out(had no box when I got it and also had the scratch). Absolutely no crazing(like all the originals are, if you can find them), nothing broken.

I also have a BIG pile of NOS 2 door waist trim, a very nice front dual headlight grille(no cracks), NOS under grille nose trim piece(chrome) and a NOS front bumper(still in plastic bag). All genuine items from various dealer cleanouts over the years. I am sure I also have some NOS gutter and window moldings too.I also have other various odds and ends including a couple of genuine used carbs(for the 1500 TS "ZB" code motor) and other minor bits of which escapes my memory at the moment...pm me if you are interested, it is all for sale now.

Unfortunately there is one crack in the dash............

Underneath the car is original except for metallic brake pads to overcome the inherent fade and Koni adjustable shocks all round. I have a KMac front sway bar and a Selby's rear sway bay in the garage as is a smaller steering wheel.
So thats it for now until I round up some bits and pieces.

4x NOS later silver painted headlight rings if you are interested(earlies were stainless, 77 and later were silver on the GLS,GLE and GLD).

1x used TS carb for parts or resto...

http://i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa299/1500king/Picture007-26.jpg

1979 dash pod(Motometer) from a GLD, in the middle is a perfect TS Tacho I installed as a NOS-in the box gauge back in 1997. Tacho is a genuine VDO/VW TS part. I stopped driving the car and stashed this in 1999.

http://i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa299/1500king/Picture008-23.jpg

1x late optional day/night rear view mirror(used)

http://i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa299/1500king/Picture009-21.jpg

1x TS oil pressure sender, used.

some NOS parts....

Ever seen a bar with no rust behind it??;-)

http://i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa299/1500king/Picture016-12.jpg

2x under grille nose trim pieces, again a patch cleaned to show chrome.

http://i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa299/1500king/Picture017-12.jpg

http://i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa299/1500king/Picture018-8.jpg

NOS moldings include;

1x front bumper rubber strip(Audi fox I think, but still for the early bumper),

3x short rear quarter strips, I think two are for ****back and one for wagon, don't know which side and one(I think the wagon strip) has rubber starting to separate from the chrome, a little glue needed.

4x front fender strips, 2x left and 2x right,

1x TS left door strip, one end missing(use the ****back strips for an end piece, they were all glued on originally),

3x TS rear quarter strips, enough to do a car(2x one side and 1x the other),

http://i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa299/1500king/Picture020-8.jpg

Other NOS strips include 2x plastic late gutter strips, they are opposite sides, I think one is ****back and the other is fox sedan(one has a nick in the front corner).

1x set of left side window sill trim pieces for TS(one for door and one for bottom of left side window)

1x Aluminium gutter strip- think it is fox...

1x Aluminium gutter strip- TS 2 door, cant remember which side, but one is closer to two!!;-)

1x left 79/80 ****back/wagon left front door side strip.

Othr used parts I would like to find a home for are;

1600 Mk1 pre-pollution(pre 1976) Golf GTI motor, been sitting under cover but dusty.Needs a good clean..Looks worse than it is, cover and block just needs a squirt of paint. Ideal machine for use with a pair of DCOE's . This is the high comp 1600(flat chambered head), bored +1mm, GTI O/S pistons, etc, etc. Will turn that TS into a rocket ship! Should run no issues, pulled from the car around a year ago and is still attached to subframe, axles and trans(late 79 LS trans). Included is the air box( with passat plate which welds onto the right chassis rail to hold the air box)/fuel distributor, passat K-Jet duct,,, etc,etc.. This is the 110hp 1600 that was also offered for the Passat GLE.

1x set of TS headlights(actually from a 80 GLD, but are the same lights. frame is different.)

All or nothing here fellas, $1K takes it all and bring a trailer!(including the steering wheel in the earlier post and I'll also throw in a few NOS 14" Golf Mk3 steel wheels with trims and hubcaps...). I'm sure there are other parts here, if you find them, you can have them...

Can you tell us more about that engine you got there? Specs?? Engine code?? you got all the parts to go with? history? Is that a K Jet on the side? Thought Passat motors were only carbies. What state are you located in?

Passats were marketed overseas with the 110hp injected motor too as the "GLE" from 1976. We didn't see them here. All I found was part of one and I have the rear "GLE" badge here somewhere still...

Motor was a golf GTI motor, I installed it in my GLD passat after the diesel died a horrible death(ran on its own oil... what fun!!), ran for a while and then it cracked top rings as the last owner re-ringed it and didn't remove the bore ridges properly. I had it rebuilt(about 20,000km on it now), +1mm oversize bore(replacement block FN code, was cheaper to buy the already machined and prepped block as Adelaide Engine Service was closing down at the time and their last set of GTI pistons were +1mm's), New O/s GTI pistons, new bearings and seals right through it, new guides, stem seals, valves and cam buckets, valve work etc,etc on 1600 GTI flat chamber head. Cam is Golf Mk 1 1600 GTI. Sump and oil pump changed to run in a passat, The K-jet came with the motor and is how I ran it. I bought the lower passat GLE airbox and chassis/injection mount from the dealer at the time. I unpicked the airbox mount from the car before I scrapped it. You just need to weld the mount to your right chassis rail and you are good to go..Has passat GLE k-jet to throttle body duct(obviously much different from golf GTI). Has standard 1600 passat dual down pipe exhaust/manifold. I never repainted any of the tin/block which is why it looks like it does, I had 6 hours to get it back into the car after receiving it from the builder.... The fuel pump and accumulator is also in the box there somewhere. The ideal fuel tank to get would be a GLD tank as it is steel, has the large fuel outlet and also a fuel return pipe in the bottom of it. ( I scrapped my last car a month ago and am certain it is now living at a local wrecking yard. Still had nice tan GLD interior, Koni shocks...). I am prepared to give it a clean up and get it running as it is still sitting on the subframe with trans and I have the fuel system/diesel 3 row radiator that all goes with it. I could possibly organise the fuel tank too(if they still have the car). I am in Adelaide.

Next time you are in Sydney near Roselands call me if you want a spare grille. I have one in my garage. I used to have a 2 door hatchback Passat. I loved that car and the grille is the last spare part left!
