Just a quick question, when sending an APR chipped Polo in for a genuine service, is it customary to disable the chip. (ie: set it to factory settings)?

I have a switchable tune (REVO) and I switch it back to stock for servicing...and valet parking, wife driving...etc :)

Switching mine back to standard ... even if it's only to stop the dealer personnel taking for more of a thrash than they normally would. Mind you ... with the APR badging on the back ... they may still try it.

... think I'll get my servicing done at the local German vehicle specialist. (Of course ... he may be no better than the dealers. :???: )

I specifically tell any place that has my car not to drive it because its running way too much boost than it should because of a fault and they will very likely blow the engine if they thrash it and if it needs to be driven to get me. Scares them enough.. I've never had any extra kms on the tripmeter :D

I started doing this when one of the kids at JAX took it for a thrash after changing brake pads - Little did he know I was standing there watching it leave and come back. I had a huge go at the owner of the place and he was very very apologetic (me and my dad/brothers have been going there for years)

I figure seb/derek have much faster cars to thrash should they feel the need so I have no reservations leaving it there overnight etc.

I wouldn't go near the stealers with my car. I'd rather trust a euro performance mechanic (Derek or Seb) then VW. Plus I'm sure VW servicing is a rip off.

I needed 2 things done under warrenty, so i'd get it done together and save the mess around.

I have an APR tuned badge on mine.

I just leave it in apr mode at the dealer. They dont care.

this is the devil you must deal with when it comes to warrenty.I think it has to do with the apprentice mentality and all stealers of all makes have this problem.Ive seen happen at LEXUS and seen many a porsche been thrashed by mechs around alexandria.
If you so worried, just remember your car has already been thrashed when it was taken off the boat, loaded on the truck and delivered to your dealer.:(

Dealers/Mechanics/etc don't give a **** whether its warm or cold, whether the car has had a few seconds to pump oil to the top of the engine or whether its bouncing off the limiter as soon as its been turned on. High teens of boost + cold engine/turbo = rediculous engine wear and potential for disaster.

I don't know about you, but my car doesnt see past 2000rpm for atleast the first 10minutes after a cold start and I'll never turn it off for atleast 5 ~10minutes after the turbo has really been pushed - Whether that be a very calm end to a trip or idling after its stopped. (And well, that goes for any car I drive really)

My car see's 5000rpm out of the driveway.

I havent had a problem yet. Im up to 47000k's

Ive had problems. But nothing which would be caused by that.

Won't cause problems now, but come the 100,000km mark and you may find your engine is very tired/worn, turbo has plenty of play in the shaft and the car isn't as smooth or making as much power.

[Correct me if i'm wrong anyone :D ]

yah good point on that. when i drive i always have the MFA set to show the oil temp. But as soon as it hits 80 degrees its game on! :P

hehehe.

Nothing too serious - But I thought I may as well take advantage of what is such a pain in the ass. ;)

Hint: Frontbar, rearbar, rest of exhaust, nicer wheels. I would have liked to have gotten my hands on some sideskirts but haven't come across anything i've liked - So the car will look like a 4wd from the side for a little while. :D

At least if the tune is switchable using a dongle, such as the REVO SPS, you can take the dongle with you :)

Or with APR - you lock it with the security PIN code (optional) and no one can ever get into it (or 10 to the power of 4 = 10,000) by the time they attempted that the car would be up for vintage rego! - and no excuse for forgeting your dongle device or losing it!

How does one set the security pin?

The 2nd hand pog i picked up had APR from dealer with no info, they guy i got it off had no idea it could be turned off. (I worked that out from website but didn't know u can set the pin)

Its optional, but you can add it at any time on top of your software:

http://www.goapr.com.au/support/emcs_instructions.html

That covers the instructions!

I was at the VW dealer the other day which has a nissan dealership directly across from it. While I was waiting for VW to open, a Nissan mechanic comes out, starts up a maxima and revs the absolute crap out of it for 5 mins, turns it off and walks away.

Dealers abuse the crap out of cars.
