The best thing IMO for you to do is the manual conversion :D

Could be a number of things from gearbox gone to transmission oil is poo.

Also could be your leads and plugs when there gone they could also cause those problems.

Transmission oil change is like 40 bucks, new leads and that I have no idea maybe around 200 bucks but don't quote me.

i duno if the stalling would be a gearbox problem. has it only happened once? in the mean time you could give the throttle body a clean. could be clogged up with junk and restricting air flow.

umm not the first time.... it has happened before. It sorta splutters sometimes like its going to stall but then comes back to life on its own... im a bit sick of it now need a manual

Around $1250-$1500 for manual conversion with me supplying the box.
A better idea than sinking more pennies into a crappy auto imo.

OK we know that the auto is a problerm but is the problerm that is making the car stall
it sounds like it could be a few other things like electrical or fueling

I am tending to think from what you are describing with stalling and a non stable idle is pointing to the common ISV playing up. Try cleaning it out.

Not sure about the auto problem tho.

This morning i had come to a stop at a red light and the car stalled..after 3rd try to start it started... then as soon as i came to another stop it stalled again...

on my way back home this morning it did the same ... and when i accelerated it was like there was no power it took its time then picked up and then felt like power was cut

Go and see a mechanic dude they can sought out this problem in no time, its like there is no fuel going to the engine. Checked your fuel lines? Crappy fuel?

I had the same problem with a manual. The revs would jump about at the lights dipping down to 500rpm and up to 1500rpm and occaisioanally stalling. I only got it fixed last week. An auto electrician fixed it for $400. Not too sure what was wrong as I got my dad to take it in for me, and I haven't seen him to pick up what the guy wrote down the problem is. Only thing is now the trip computer doesn't work.

Hello too btw, first post and all, been a bit of a lurker. I got a 92 GTI 8v, 4 door.

Check the vacuum hose behind the speedo.

It moght be a good idea to check the vacume T-peice that sits just behind & to the left of the inlet manifold & any other vacume lead that you can find.
My car has had problems similar to this & has been fixed easily when the lead is put back on, this can also play havic with MAF.
So does your MAF give accurate readings, one day I was getting bizzare readings for my feul econemy & it was because one of the vacume leads was detached.
So it really does sound like a fuel or electric problem & not transmision

Hello, Thanks for the Vacume piece advice, I will check it out. The display shows that I have done 2705kms (this does not change), and a trip time of 63:55 and climbing each time I start (No reset). Fuel consumption is stuck on 8L.

It turns out that that $400 figure was for getting the central locking, windcreen wiper switch and system EC fixed. The rev problem was fixed in the 10,000 km service which only cost me $160.

As for location, I am in Sydney in the lower north shore. I see a couple of mk2's around here, do any belong to forum members?
