A colleague of mine came across this ad the other day;

http://www.carsales.com.au/used-cars/dealer/VOLKSWAGEN/CORRADO/details.aspx?__Ns=pCar_StatusSort_Int32|1||pCar_Pr ice_Decimal|0&__Nne=20&State=New%20South%20Wales&Region=State%20Wide&R=931534&state_id=898&__N=898+785+834+285+258+287&distance=25&__Dx=mode+matchany&trecs=1&RegionID=785&__sid=1129A6D42298&__Ntk=CarAll&silo=1000&keywords=corrado&Cr=0&__D=corrado&seot=0&__Ntt=corrado&__Ntx=mode+matchallpartial

So close and yet so far? ;)

id tackle it for the right price.
Unfortunately thats not the right price. It would cost a packet to get parts imported for the conversion.
Looks like a really clean car tho! has been for sale for aaaages. was over 20k previously wasnt it?

$15k !! ouch!! and no photos of body!! bit sus if you ask me:?

SylvieKid

Yup, not sure why they'd post a pic of the spare wheel (even if it does have the original tools) as opposed to exterior shots?? And besides, I've not got the technical nouse (or money) to even think of trying to tackle a project like that.....shame though as I'd really love a VR6! :(

ive seen external photos of this one b4. it looks fine. I think 15k would be a fair price if u could complete the conversion under 20k all up. but Im doubting it could be done. given that it has been for sale for so long id be tempted to offer the guy a low number and see if he bites.

Be ok if the sale waS OVERSEAS but its not to expensive I reckon something like 13 k would be a better offer.

Tim

is there anyone here that knows exactly what would be involved? ive heard with a corrado its not so straight forward.

Just a quick thing but one of the problems would be welding up the hole from the steering rack and drilling one on the otherside. Getting a dash would be another thats right handed.

You don't need to do anything like that. They are all built to take a steering rack on any side. You'd just swap over the blanking plates.

B3 Passat dash will fit

Tim

B3 passats are probly as rare as corrados in australia so that doesnt help! hehe

The dash and the headlights would be the dearest.
It still sounds a bit dodgy. I'd wan't a gaurantee that it could be registered.
I knew a guy that nearly got caught with a 16v Golf.n:

Audi TT Dash would fit and looks horn.
You need rear subframe, I know which ones would fit ;) Headlights and loads of other bits. A registered one is prolly only worth $20-$25k, so I wouldn`t pay more than 10 for one that needed converting.

Tim

10k is the realistic figure i was thinking.

Also this car has been illigally imported, it is a 93 and the papers say it is a 1990. I wonder what the RTA will say when you go to register it and the year letter sets off warning bells on their system.

Also it is a US spec motor which is a downtuned one.

Just a couple of warnings to the wise.

I personally love the colour and If it were $6k less I`d be going to look at it.

Definately, its a iconic car don't get me wrong but he is asking for a lot for a car that needs a lot of attention to get rego.

That's if it can be registered.

That's the point, great idea but realistically I agree that he's asking too much for it AND there's no guarantee it could be registered. Who's gonna fork out over $20k for a car you can't (legally!) drive? :?

Plus the point about it's age makes it even dodgier.....shame though as there's nowhere near enough of 'em over here and if only I'd have done my research earlier I'd have tried to bring one over from the UK.

I generally only see Mk3 Golfs about, that and Mk4 / Mk5 R32's.....damn, they look good as well!! :D

mmmmm RWD corrado, i like :D

I gave the guy a call, it has import approval under the now defunct 15 year old rule. Meaning it can be registered in any state like the ad says, after its converted to RHD. But it would be an expensive exercise, the car would need to be about half the price it is currently. And it's only a 2.8L not the 2.9 like in the Euro spec Raddos.

There are pics up on drive.com.au now and that rear spoiler is ugly as.

I think unless someone desperate or stupid buys it, will be up for sale for a long time....

BlackVr6ix

$14,990 isn't too bad i don't think! If i had the money I'd certainly sacrifice my VR6 to do a RHD conversion on it

Tim
06-09-2007, 01:59 PM
Id think realistically its only worth 10k unconverted.
also how did it get import approval under the 15 yr rule? VR6 corrados werent 15 years old when the rule was changed. Doesnt add up.

BlackVr6ix
06-09-2007, 02:29 PM
yeah that part of the equation does seem a little hazy.... i think if you did the work yourself and had a wrecked vr6 *nudge* it wouldn't be so bad.

Tim
06-09-2007, 02:50 PM
i dont know it mk3 components wuold be compatible. I dont think they are.

As i said at 10k itd be worth investigating. But 15k is top dollar for a conversion that could potentially cost thousands of dollars just in parts.

BlackVr6ix
06-09-2007, 03:06 PM
I'm 99% sure that the mk3 dash bolts straight up, same goes with the front subframe.

Silly me didn't think to question him on that one, but it'sadvertised as a 90' isn't it? even though it apparently is a 93?? who said that.

Tim

the way to do it would be for a WA resident to buy it and register it as they dont have to convert to rhd do they? Would save going to all that trouble and then finding out u cant get it registered.

If anyone ends up buying this MAKE SURE its got import approval certificates (there should be at least 2 original copies) and customs clearance evidence, ie something stating that its been through quarantine and all duty has been payed on it before handing cash over.
Thats assuming you want to register it, because the RTA will need them.

Could be a bargain for someone here !!
