Hi. I've been on the sidelines on here for a year or so now and thought I'd start a post.

I'm getting out of the aircooled scene and hopefully into the watercooled. I'm not quite ready to purchase a car just now, but will be in a month or so.

I really like the Vento. So i'm just putting the feelers out to see what is around. Also consider golfs/ polos etc. Plans are pretty basic (lower and wheels atm). Just a quick question too - carsales.com advertises 1996 etc ventos and passats. Are they the same?

Happy to spend 3k-6k.

Manual.

Neat interior and exterior.

Close to RWC would be good.

I'm in Melbourne, but am willing to travel for the right car.

PM me or just reply here.

Cheers, Rowan

Hey mate, I have a 1996 Vento thats been lowered on H&R 'ultra ultra' low coilovers that I have just imported from the states. It has some thule roof racks and a 555 Fairing (ultra rare) and some Zender Sport 15" wheels on Michelin pilot sport precidas.

It is an auto though and the body and interior could do with a bit of touching up but it would be a great base to start with.

Heres a few photos from the last brisbane euro meet.

That vento is pretty much exactly what I want. But I can't afford 8k. I emailed the Tasmania vento, just waiting to hear back. I'll let you know what happens

Ventos are great...I had a new 1994 one in the US,and a 1996 new one in South Africa.

Both were badged as Jettas, but identical, except Ventos were built in Germany,Jettas were built in Mexico and South Africa.

hey mate, I am negotiable on price. Just give me a PM, I am sure we can work something out. Even if you want to take it without wheels or roofracks or something.

I have a Grey '95 Passat VR6 Manual which I'm toying with upgrading.
To answer your original post, the Vento is basically a Golf with a boot (different grill, h'lamps and rear seat to the golf) and only available in Aust. with a 2L engine... most are auto from my knowledge.
The Passat is only a little bigger, mostly in length and was available with the VR. It shares many components with the Mk3 Golf / Vento

My Passat is lowered on Eibach springs with 6 month old Bilstein sports all round wearing ABT Sportline A23s. Bodywork and interior are very clean. PM me if you're interested!

Thanks for the info RedVR6. However I still think I'm after a Vento right now. I'll keep searching. Thanks for the car offers too guys. Keeping them in mind...

Well it's taken a little longer to move my beetle, but it's getting closer I think. There's a white vento on ebay right now which I'm interested in. I was just wondering what the biggest issues are with ventos and if they're prone to certain breaks, exy parts etc etc.

Cheers

Have a search in the Mk3 section for common faults, there are all sorts of threads on them (search Golf over Vento, they're basically the same, as mentioned but add bonnet to Vento specific). Heater core, window regs, ABS issues are common enough. I'd be hunting a manual one, mine was auto and the box failed, will be manual soon and really looking forward to it.
The VR6 is certainly a fun option and you won't be paying much more than a Vento for one.
Finding body panels for a Vento that are bespoke to the Vento might be tricky, but the doors, front guards, front bumper and plastic trimmings carry over from Golf, as does the vast majority of the interior and drivetrain even to the point where the exhaust back box is mounted in the same spot as the Golf's but has an extended tip to reach the edge of the longer bodywork.

Good luck in the search and welcome, albeit three years on, to the forum.

Thanks for the info VW Imposter. Just what I needed, tried using the 'search' but I must not've used it properly.

I haven't really even considered a VR6 yet Jake, but I'll do a bit of research and see what I think.

Cheers guys
