What's it like having a de-cat? Does it rumble louder when down gearing?

LarryRSA
03-03-2011, 11:28 PM
Yip it's a bit deeper, on down shift. but also sportier on wide open throttle, plus I gained about 10hp odd with the decat down pipe......

Are you going to decat the other cat aswell? As far as I know, the GTI has two catalytic converters.

LarryRSA

Not as far as I know. It's only got the one cat thats in the down pipe....

Yeah dude, VW south Africa gave us a few choices. We could have a 4 door or a 4 door or a 4 door !

Larry, the car looks great. Love the wheels too.

Have you tried octane booster? REVO Stage 2 would probably prefer having 98 rather than 95 ron.
Can you recall any torque figures from other cars on the same day? how hot was it?

I was running REVO Stage 1 with down pipe and PD160 intake - and was running 183hp at wheels (after bit of heat soak as my car was the 1st one on dyno and there were setting to make sure things were okay) with 17" heavy RS4 replica wheels / it was 22 degrees that day.

I now have REVO Stage 2 / Forge 007 spring strength also increased / 4bar / will get new spark plugs next week - I am hoping to get 195hp at wheels. I have also returned to my original wheels as they are lighter.

Maybe next dyno, try better fuel / and check what the peak boost was at? I also have a 4 door - I love it.

Hey bud, Thanks for the nice comments.
Nope never used octane booster.
it was probibly around 28 29 deg on the day. Other PGTI results were as follows:

Stage 1 REVO with some NF Ultra octane booster - 178hp and 285nm
Stage 2 REVO with Down Pipe, full exhaust and intake - 186hp 296nm
Stage 2 Unitronic with down pipe, full exhaust, intake, Seat Sport Front Mount Cooler - 195hp 343nm

and I'm pretty sure they were all running octane boosters. I'm happy with my result though as it seems this dyno was a bit stingey.

My previous dyno on Stage 1 Revo with the DP and pd160 was 180hp and 286nm, but that was at night with cooler outside temps.
I'll have a look at the peak boost when I get a chance, I'll also be doing the wheel arch liner mod this weekend if all goes according to plan....

Larry - figures are pretty reasonable. Especially at that temperature I think.

Don't bother with arch liner - I have seen a few articles / reviews and it actually doesn't increase the airflow through the side mounted intercooler. I bought everything and didn't end up fitting it. I even painted the vents...

Also with REVO - check what settings you have on. There is 'timing' / 'boost' / 'fuel'. Fuel is usually set at 9, and it will adapt itself. I think my boost is 7 or 8 (higher the number, higher the boost) / timing is at 7.

It has been road tuned with REVO dealer here. Needs to do another one as I also have Forge TIP.

Seat front mount cooler sounds neat, for me I am saving for possible next car. No more upgrades...

I will be really disappointed with REVO 2 tune if next dyno result figure isn't great - because I had 15% fuel consumption hit with REVO 2.

Oh for sure dude, fuel consumption went up QUITE alot. My settings where B7 T3 F5....The fueling is locked on 5, and my car already pulls a bit of timing on T3.....so Maybe Octane booster is needed.

Must admit I was hoping for close to 200hp....but anyway......

How do the A-Drives handle that power? I would've thought S-Drives minimum?

05-03-2011, 03:20 PM
The Revo 1 polo is me, with the octane booster I ran, I should have been on 102 octane almost and set on B7 T5 with 0 timing pull but we are at 1600m above sea level which is to our downfall

I was so gutted to see that Larry. :( Sorry again.

There was a lot of time, effort, love and money put into your PGTI and it will be sadly missed. I wish you all the best for the time ahead and look forward to seeing what you have in store for your new machine. :)

Horrid to hear. There's some parasitic low-lifes around, aren't there?
What's the recovery rate in your part of the world?

Also sad to hear about it, I thought late model VW's were quite hard to steal without the keys

Not very good. And to be honest I kinda sort of hope they dont find it, because it's like having a car thats been in an accident and repaired. Never the same....

One of the members on here had his skoda stolen a few months ago, apparently they broke into the house when he was sleeping and stole the keys

What the seem to do here is bring their own ecu and keys, break open the lock open the bonnet and swap the ecu, and then use their keys to start the car......

I say this because another mate of mine almost had his car stolen a while back, and that seemd to be what they were in the process of doing, because they had stolen his ecu......
