The history of the Beeza 1.4 Engine is that it started as the 950cc block in the Mk1 Polo and was bored out to 1L and 1.1L for the Mk2 Polo and Mk1 Golf. With the Late Mk1 Polo and Early Mk2 Polo S it was bored out to 1.3.

These are all "Smallblock" Motors, which differ from the 1.6, 1.8 and 2L Golf "Bigblock" motors as they are crossflow and lean forward in the engine bay, not back like in the Golf. They all use the smallblock gearbox, which is why you cant just swop it for a Golf Engine.

In overseas Polos and Ibiza`s, the base model is the 1.1 or 1.3 Carby motor, but Australian Ibizas got the bored out (again) 1.4L single point engine.

Late model Polos got the 1.4 16v engine and the bored out again, (cant be much metal left now) 1.6 8v which is different to the 1.6 in the Golf.

The easiest smallblock upgrade utilizing your existing gearbox is 1.4 16v, or 1.6 8v. These were not bad motors 100kw I think, running efi, but for an easy bolt in swop, you could utilize the existing singlepoint injection.

I actually have a low kms 1.6 8v from a 1999 Polo at the workshop, but I dont have the computer for it. Yours for a few paltry dollars GPK ;)

The other easyish swop is 1.8 using Singlepoint injection from a Cordoba. You need the loom, gearbox, driveshafts and manifolds, but it all plugs straight into the fusebox. I have done one of these conversions and it went pretty good afterwards, I used Mk2 GTI engine and Gearbox and Cordy wiring.

You could go 2L EFI with a SEAT GTI donor loom, but the Golf GL loom comes into the car on the wrong side and leads to headaches.

Any 1.8 or 2L swop is gonna cost you, probably easier to flog the car and buy an Ibiza GTI or a Golf.

Damn I just wrote a lot, my knowledge of SEAT is a bit worrying. I`m off now to buy an anorack :)

the Polo 1.6 8v is also bloody gutless mate, wouldnt recommend putting one of those in it if your looking for performance... go the 1.8 cordy engine :)

a good conversion would be a mk2 g60 lump...1.8 supercharged....or a 5cylinder out of an audi...a standerd g60 is pumpin out about 180bhp ...
or if you ant to stick with the 1.4 ...get a polo g40 engine ..135bhp out of a 1.3 1.4

Mate, we are in Australia G60s are like rocking horse and would cost a lot more than the car just to get one here from the UK. I haven't heard of a G40 in Australia at all.

George, I reckon a nice little KR would be worth the time fitting. The Ibiza is enough like a MK2 to make it pretty easy to do.

If you want 16v, surely just get a Cuprasport?

i sent a set of angel eyes to austrailia once ...in all fairness it only cost me 20gbp ...i told him it was double that ...he didnt mind & paid no problem.....
IF an engine & loom cost 100gbp pounds to send ...i wouldent be to fussed
If you guys find something over here ...give me a shout to see if i can have it snt to me ..then ill send it to you....all ebayers bump up postage prices....you know the score....

Another suggestion for your 1.4 is to put throttle bodies on it...bore the engine a bit more ...i reckon 125 bhp ...thats more than gti 1.8 8v

It costs 100 quid or more to ship a set of coilovers ,a motor would cost big time. The only practical way is as part of a container which is what Golfloon does already.

I like the KR option as it could be pulled back out pretty quickly although a cupra would be a good buy.
