Dot 3 or 4 brake fliud??

Today I went down to pick up some brake fluid for my 1975 passat and realized that there are two types of brake fluid dot 3 and dot 4. I have no idea which one to use, if someone does know please help me out. thanks in advance.

I'm pretty sure it's DOT4, I'll check an owner's manual tonight.

Our Passat runs "Super DOT4" sometimes called DOT5.1 but that was with a complete change of all hydraulic parts.

The '79 Passat manual I've got here says DOT3 or DOT4.

I'd probably flush it all out and go with the DOT4.
