With all the mods you have made the last thing you want is some big daft wheels, regardless of what they look like.

'OLD MAN MODE ON'

The MK1 was designed and built in the time before 15s were even commonplace. I have owned and driven many MK1s in my 15 years of vw ownership and none have ever been as nice to drive as the bog standard MK1 GTI I bought that came with factory 13s on it. Even though VW went to 14s on the Campaign, they never quite handled the same.

Fitting big wheels also takes more power to get rolling and really badly affects the dynamics of the car.

'OLD MAN MODE OFF'

If you have money to spend on your car, there are plenty of areas that you could spend it on and get more out of it.

you got pics of them on the car. perosnally i wouldnt have bought them but. The way i think about cosmetic mods is that if you like them and its your car then so be it. Who cares what others think as long as your happy. just my 2c worth.

my personal opinion is they look bankstown no offence it is your personal choice for $2000 you can do a five stud vr6 brakes conversion and 16inch polo gti wheels or bbs now thats unique plus you will have scrubing issues with 17s and low profile tyres arent cheap take my word i had 17inch gzeros on the datto i went through two sets of tyres at 120 each

I'd like to see some pics of them on the car

Thats the best way to decide

if think performance and handling terms, you wont get better than a 50 profile tyre on a 15" rim for a mk1 - providing you have the suspension and added subframe components to stop the rest of the car from bending from the extra grip - but thats not what our topic is...

i dont much like the wheels either, sorry mate ;-)

having said that, i've seen a few mk1's with big shiny wheels and theres something there that works about it, is just not to my taste

good on ya for havin a go - look what i started with!

no scrubbing anywhere and the tires were cheaper that getting new 1s for the mk2 steelies. they cost $130 205/40/r17 and the mk2 steelies were $155 185/55/r14... sorry no pics yet fkn camera was flat. tomorrow. i think ill get some Porsche 928 wheels next, if i can find them!

Fix the rust, black the bumpers and guards, and you may be onto a winner. And get some spacers. you need to add some Phat.

If you're after 928 wheels, then look no further than Steve! Those things would look superb on the Mk1, and I'd take polished Porsche rims over those chromies anyday!

yeah that rust was a surprise when i pulled off the zender bar. ive gone through the car with a professional spray painter and there is no major rust just surface rust and where there is some old primer.

what are the dimensions of the 928s?? 16x8??? im mega broke atm. heaps of bills to pay, and rego.

i recon ill need guard work. the "chromies" are only 6.5 wide but i have no scrubbing at all even on full lock. after coilovers might think about it.
