Hello all..could be a foolish question..is it possible to get RCD510 and MDI afterwards on new 2011 polo gti? I am thinking this just to avoid the wait as all available ones do not have any options fitted.

thanks for help in advance..

Yeah dude, both can be dealer fitted. My 6R GTI has them fitted by the dealer, they simply cut a slot in the glovebox for the MDI and install the RCD510 in the centre console, it's fully integrated with the MFD and you can control it from the steering wheel and have the audio display on the MFD. I say the only downside is the hole cut inside the glove box doesn't look perfect, but it's hidden away so it's not really a problem at all. Hope this helps.

Hi, one of the chaps in the UK fitted the RCD510 and DAB himself, along with a Bluetooth kit: EXCLUSIVE: Is this the first customer new Polo GTI in the UK?*|*Polo Driver (http://www.polodriver.com/polo-2009/exclusive-is-this-the-first-customer-new-polo-gti-in-the-uk/comment-page-5/#comment-9209)

I'm hoping to have a proper post about it soon, if owners are self-fitting minded!

Well mine was dealer fitted 700 + 70 GST so 770 all up, same price as if it was factory fitted. I got my GTI in black, such a sexy beast. Lol.

The dealer OFFERED me the dealer fit RCD510 upgrade as part of the deal for nothing. He'd rather do that than offer me free window tint at the time. I didn't ask for it... it was offered as a sweetener.

Why you may ask? Because they usually have a few laying around if someone updates their RCD510 for the dealer fit sat nav.

So, the RCD510 seems to be worth less to the dealer than free window tint. So, why pay $700 for it????

Thanks pologti18t again for addressing the question with useful, factual information. I actually got the RCD510 for free also but since the question was regarding the cost of the audio pack, I chose to just tell him what was written on the sales agreement which was then discounted.

Question to Dermot: I have noticed these RNS510 units coming out of Lithuania as well for less than 1k AUD, what's your take on them? Also, as a dealer, how happy are you to fit an item that I bought off the internet?

My name isn't Dermot but I have an RNS-510 from Lithuania which hasn't skipped a beat so far and my dealer was happy to fit it (along with the 9WZ Bluetooth unit). I think it depends on the dealer but you'd certainly find at least one happy to do the job...

If you don't want bluetooth, the swap from RCD-310 to RNS-510 is pretty straightforward and you could easily do it yourself. I would have done the same if I didn't go with the 9WZ but didn't fancy pulling apart the A pillar to locate the bluetooth mic overhead.

Hi all
I'm less concerned about the gadgets but interested in getting quality sound. I know they don't change the speakers with the audio upgrade package as they are usually quite good, just wondering if there is a "sound" difference with the RCD-510. In my current pogo the first thing i did was replace the head unit, I think it would be more difficult in the new model...???

Headunit mods usually make minimal difference to sound quality... unless you're talking about actual change in the media... like cassette to digital formats... imo.
