I read about this car about 4 years ago, is a 20vt with about 450hp and a quaife seqential gearbox like the ones I often rave about. The guy driving is about 60years old......

They're widely known as clubmans, as there are several different makes and models including caterham and "lotus super 7" being the original. The one in this video could be any make.

Seems people are more excited about the clubman than the golf which is kickin it's butt :???:

Doesn't the Superlight have a Rover 1.8 litre K-series in it? I think the guy driving the Superlight is a member of the Club GTI forums (going on his youtube username).

I'd love the Golf though!!!

Maurice is probably closer to 70 to be fair.

I have been at Castle Combe on track and spectating when he has been there. He used to have a well mental 16V mk1 before fitting a 20valve in it. Then for comfort I guess he did a mk2.

Must be a real downer having spent 40 grand on an Exige or superlight to get battered by a std looking 1990 Golf.

Listen to the Turbo on the superlight ;)

i'm not sure its turbo noise - i think its the ignition interfering with the audio on the camera.

I haven't watched the video with the sound on yet j:

Here's the specs on standard Superlights though (although if it's the guy I think it is who owns the Superlight, he's possibly got something VW related in there!)

Edit:- Just checked the actual car and it has a 2litre Ford Duratec motor in it!

The Mk1 got written off badly after brake failure. The rebuild is really well documented on CGTI at the moment and offers some great insights into why the car is so quick :) There's also a video of the crash somewhere around the site.

Interesting look, I think at the time of this the mk1 had the 1.8T recently installed and "slightly" modded (about 300hp), and the mk2 still had a highly tuned naturally aspirated 16v. But as we can all see they both have 1.8T's now.
