What are you running, what do you think of it?

Things you would like to change?

Tell us here!

Currently, im using a

Clarion DXZ 656 mp head unit
A pair of MPS 1700 VDO Dayton Splits in the front doors,
A pair of Clarion 4" co-ax speaker running as a mid/ tweeter in th dash
A pair of VDO 6.5" co-ax in the rear doors.

At the moment im not running any subs, as ive just sold them, and tomorrow i will order my new subs. A pair of SB15xb Clarion 15" subs.

My amps are an old US Audio 554z 4 channel, a tough and reliable amp, that is currently only powering my front speakers

I also have a Directed Xtream 1500x mono bloc that has proven to be a very nice amplifier, but it is a little small, at only 220W rms at 4ohms. I would like a little more extra power so that i dont have to run the amp so hard.

The Headunit is a very nice peice of gear, with full RCA outs and an RCA aux in, a motorised face, and 4x52 amplifier. the only thing i dont like about it is the lack of a parametric equaliser, and a lack of hi-pass filters.

Great Idea Science!

I just hope everyone has a good alarm that is posting all their gear.

At the moment i have the following

ol' school clarion tape deck (cant decide on what deck to replace the VRX677 i had)
Polk Momo MMC6500 splits in the front
Polk DB650 Coax in the rear

and in the shed a couple of Polk Momo MM2124's, couple of clarion pa10s in a dual slot ported box, box of random headunits, half a dozen random amps, meters and meters of cable and rca'a.

Guess thats what you get from fitting stereo's for a few years.......

i have an older version kenwood deck with the cd stacker in d boot which is annoyn.

i have amped my stock front and rears with a pheonix gold 4 channel. 50rms x4

currently using my old xplod 12" sub, was powered by a jaycar mono for awhile and now back to an old 2 channel until i get money to buy a mono.

4gauge wiring to distro to 8gauge

so, hopefully later i will have a jaycar mono again, running a sub with about 600-800 rms . either herts, soundstream or sumthin, or maybe 2 type r's.

At the moment I have:

Blaupunkt CD300 HU (lump of ****)
Pioneer 6.5" splits in ze front (lumps of ****)
Pioneer 6.5" coax in ze back (lumps of ****!)

As you may be able to gather, I don't think too highly of this system!
Bugger all clarity, weak volume, very very crap HU interface with an excessively twitchy volume knob.
Also, thanks to the thin tires on the car I think it suffers a lot from road noise and of course that lovely VR6 burble :)

Current sitting in my bedroom, and as of Thursday will be happily in the car:
Clarion DXZ766USB HU (w00t!)
Alpine Type-X 6.5" splits in ze front
Alpine 502T (2x75w) giving the splits what they need
Audison connection wiring for the whole lot :D

At some stage I'll whack in some dynamat in the doors as well.

silverMK1
15-05-2007, 09:01 PM
in the mk1 i have

2x fusion 6" splits in each door with 1 tweeter in the door and 1 dash mounted each side. both doors re trimmed in cream vinyl (fkn rip off)

eclipse cd5000 head unit (crazy the amount of stuff it has)

6.5" lcd monitor running off dvd player in glove box

2x 12" eclipse subs running off a 550w kenwood amp atm (upgrading to the eclipse xa1000 mono)
ive tried alot of combos with subs,
ive had 1x10" then 2x10" then i went to a 15" now i have 2x12" if i didnt have to get a custom made sub box for 2x15" i would be running that.lol :)

Alpine type R 12" sub
Alpine mono block 1000w amp
Kenwood 6" front

Sub and Amp is awsome.... but if i was to do it all again i would get a cheaper system..... $1000 for sub and amp is stupid.... $130 for 12" sony (or equivalent) and 4 channel amp is all u really need..... anyhow, whenever i hear a car drive past with the stereo loud i just think (as does everyone else who isnt in the car) they are a bunch of tossers...

Currently the VW Bora 4motion is set up for SQ so its has:
Pioneer 8650mp Head Unit
Boston SL-60 front splits
Boston G5 12inch in sealed 1.1cuft ( 1inch perspex and 25/36mm MDF )
Audison Srx2 for front 65Wx 2
Audison Srx2s for sub 600Wx 1
Dynamat Xtreme Bulk Pack
4gauge Earthing Kit
Optima D34m
Stinger cables and connections.

Sounds ok, front splits are by fair one of the best sets I have heard for $500. Sub is ok, plays low and loud for a 12 in a sealed box. Acoustics of the car is quite good as well so system sounds pretty good.

In my old car I had
HU : Panasonic CQ-8900W (Awesome HU)
Front Splits : Pioneer 6.5" Yellow splits later changed to Boston Pro 6.5" splits (incredible SQ)
Rear coax : Infinity reference 5.25" (Dissapointing imo)
Amp : Akai 4x100 (Best value, great SQ - Similar (if not better) to jaycar stuff)
Amp 2 : Jaycar Monoblock
Sub : First I had dual 12" JL Audio W0 in sealed box, changed to 1 x 12" JL W3 in a sealed box then finally changed to a Cliff Designs 12" (CD was an absolute monster sub, weighed about 50kgs + box and was rated to 1600RMS - Played lower and harder than a strippers panties :D)
Entire car sound deadened + Top notch cables etc.

Everytime I get in a car with a half decent stereo I miss it - I have a Pioneer Deck (9050 iirc) around here somewhere I'll eventually get around to installing in my A3/any new car I buy.

My new sub should be arriving today, so i'll update everyone on wahts running and how in the VR6.

Im now running a center channel in the dash, using a Clarion SRC1074 4" co-ax, running mono, bridged across channels 3+4 on my aplifier. These channels also run my top corners, a pair or SRC1074's. These speakers run freqs over 400hz to 22khz.

The center channel has had the tweeter disconected, so as to concentrate on Vocal freqs, and will be getting an adjustible attenuator, at the center is a little too dominant at the moment.

The Mid bass speakers are VDO MPS1700, as per the first post, These are running at full range on channels 1+2 on the amp, with a crossover to bandpass them to about 400hz.

I need a second amplifier to run my rear speakers, and the center channel seperatly from the fronts, so that i can tune it a little bit better, the center also needs to be raised into the top of the dash.

The sub is a DHD duel voice coil 15" off Ebay, nothing flash, cept for the dust cap, which flashes to the beat! A bit of a wank, but it was all i could find on there with duel 4ohm coils and a decent power handling.
I will be running this as a 2ohm load to get the most out my aplifier, as like most monos, it does its best work at 2ohms.
The sub should arrive today i the post, but ive been waiting for 2 weeks already.

Try again hahaha

Been flying under the radar hey

BlackVr6ix
15-06-2007, 02:55 PM
Sure have :D

you need to run a custom filter on that center channel that plays only stuff that goes to bot left and right otherwise it'll mess with your left/right split in anything recorded in stereo (basically everything these days).

search about summed mono filters. it will help you in the long run i think.

Running bridged already does it. i get full stereo, and only signals through both channels will come out the center.
Its also filtered to only do the vocal ranges.

bridged isnt summed mono, its just a joint stereo/mono.

you cant run stereo with one speaker. and at this stage, i dont care enough. It works, thats all i care about.

i was gona say, the port looks way too small. also, you should have the port on the baffle (the plane that the sub is on). try firing the sub towards the back too.

I dont think you understand what i mean, joint stereo is mono. by joint its playing everything, were summed mono is only playing things that are recorded to both channels.

Its hard to explain..... If i use numbers it'll be easier.

if the left channel is playing the 1357 and the right is playing 23456

in joint stereo/mono your center chanel is playing 123456&7 but in summed mono its only playing 3&5.

What do you think of the invisibass?

I like it a lot actually. Doesnt take up too much boot space and works very nicely. The common feedback seems to be that its not as good as a 'good' 10 or 12, but is very good for what it is and a lot of the people with more serious systems seem to hold them in high regard. Definately worth a listen i would say.

On the topic of car audio, tomorrow i get an xa4000 amp and a set of oz matrix elites to replace the bostons. Now THAT will be interesting :D
