Hey all,

I'm a newbie to this forum, recently registering after test driving this vehicle:

2008 VOLKSWAGEN GOLF GTI V MY09 Private Cars For Sale in SA - carsales.com.au (http://www.carsales.com.au/all-cars/private/details.aspx?R=9621321&ref=RecentItem&__Ns=pCar_Odometer_Single%7C0%7C%7CpCar_RankSort_I nt32%7C1%7C%7CpCar_PriceSort_Decimal%7C0&__N=1216%201246%201247%201252%201282%20414&tsrc=allcarhome&__Nne=15)

I have a few questions specific to this vehicle.

- The car has a Fujita Air Intake installed. The current owner claims it's legal, because it has a bracket installed. Is this correct?
- I would like to hook up my iPhone to the stereo system. I know this is possible with later versions, via a DMI cable. Does anyone know if this is possible with the 2009 model, and if so, how much it would cost to retrofit?

Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hi,

It will be quite pricey because unfortunately to get the MDI cable, you need the MDI kit and for the kit to work you need an RNS510 (SatNav) or the RCD510(Digital Touchscreen) to support it.

MDI kit was $479 from memory and the iPod cable was $75.

vw does sell a kit for the rcd 300, its about $200 or so and runs the ipod as a "cd changer", only thing is it will work with the iphone but it wont charge it due to ipod/iphone having different charging voltages

Oh, that's still ok. You can buy a Power Charge Converter off eBay ~ $25 that will make it charge

The owner is wrong -Anything that is not 'factory' can be deemed illegal and a defect. Unless you have a cert.

My good mate is a highway patrol cop and even he did not put a bigger filter on his MPS Mazda because he said he would be driving an illegal car which would not be good. But the chances of getting pulled and someone checking your air filter is slim to none.
