In past 12 months I had to top up almost 2L of the coolant. After the closer inspection of the engine bay I found pink spots on the front of the engine.

There is not much you can see unless you remove the water pump pulley.

So, fellow Tregers check the coolant level on regular basis and if you have to top up keep the record. Touareg has a closed cooling system and if everything is OK there is no coolant loss due to evaporation, like in some other cars, where the coolant reservoir is open to the outside air. Don't rely on dealer that he will tell you that they had to top up coolant, they could forget to tell you.

There's a bulletin out on V6 TDIs leaking coolant from the EGR cooler. Have a sticky-beak in that area, too.

In your case, it looks like an easy fix, and I'd say there'd be an exchange version available at a greatly-reduced price.

The gasket is normally an o-ring. I'd be more inclined to replace the whole pump, if I were the technician on the job. Like, you're already removing it, so why not?

Would you know from which VIN no. ? I was told that mine was all clear.
