I went and had a squiz at the MK6 today (I couldn't help myself)

Its very nice, interior looks great definitely looks more luxurious than the MKV Comfortline/Pacific. The front is what surprised me the most its gorgeous! Much much nicer in person than photos. Looks mean but its still got that refined look about it. From the back its got a wider stance on the road than the MKV, and the bumper is nicer than the plain black with the MKV.

The handles are a bit deceiving, they look chunkier on different colours. The black/white they look fine but they stick out more on the blue/grey.

I'll stob yabbering and show you some pics. I tried to get some side by side shots to show the difference between MKV/6.

Wimmer's take on the new VW Golf GTI is almost all about performance and very little about appearance. The stock GTI rolls out of the factory with 210 horsepower and 280Nm (207 lb-ft) of torque, but after Wimmer RS gets its hands on the 2.0-liter turbo unit, those numbers are increased to a hefty 386 hp and 455 Nm (332 lb-ft) allowing the hot hatch to achieve a top speed of 267 km/h or 166mph.

This extra power comes thanks to an optimized turbo, the use of a sports CAT, a modified intake system and fuel pump as well as a reprogrammed ECU just to mention a few of the upgrades.

Wimmer RS also installs a sports clutch and a height-adjustable HR sports coilover suspension system while the package can be completed with a choice of 18-, 19- or 20-inch alloy wheels wrapped in high-performance tires.

Haven't got many photo's yet unfortunately, the last one is of my TSi Manual (foreground) and my mates TDi DSG when we went for a drive one day. Both same spec bar engine and gearbox and mine has leather Trim.

Hey guys,

Here's my baby. :P I'm as new to the VW family as well....my very first of their breed.
1300k's in, two and a bit weeks as an owner.....happy as Larry. :cool:

Spent most of yesterday going over it with a fine tooth comb, or a fine micro-fibre cloth might be more accurate.
Wanted her looking it's best for some pics. :)

It's weird...seeing these pics, more so than in person, I realise how much it needs a tint.....:1orglaugh: That'll happen in the next few weeks...

Also, I've been visualising how much to drop the height....Please excuse my very lame attempt at photo-chop/shop....:(
At a guess, I think this would equate to approx 40-50mm....?? Maybe too much for my local roads, but at least with coilovers I have the option to raise it. ;)

Anyone got pics of a Golf Wagon with the Sport Pack?

I'm pleasantly surprised that the Golf wagon doesn't look as bad as I had imagined it would. It is now a possibility to replace my Mk V TDI Sportline. Still haven't seen one with a Sport Pack, and the pics in the brochure on the VWA website aren't a great help....

My 5 door with 18" Detroits in need of a wash. Next to my Datsun 1600 club race car. Amazing how you think the Golf is a small car until you see it next to a "family car" from 1969! The Datto has been lowered obviously but it looks a foot shorter that the Golf!

Hi all, just thought I'd share some pics of my new CS GTI, which finaly arrived last week. I've just fitted on a set of 19x8.5" ET40 wheels (with 225/35/19 Kumhos) on stock height.

Thinking of lowering it by say 30mm (<1inch) all around though with H&R Sports springs though I'm afraid it may start rubbing too much - want it to be a practical daily car. It was rubbing on the way home with the four stock 17" Denvers with tyres loaded inside around corners/tall humps.

We took possession of my wife's car on Saturday.

Initial impressions:

1. The refinement of the engine is brilliant for a car at this level.
2. The cabin noise is very low. You feel isolated from the world like you do in much more expensive cars. Almost as good as my XF.
3. The adaptive chassis control is magic. My wife only drives with it in comfort mode. That combined with the taller tyres on the 16" wheels makes for a hugely compliant ride.
4. DSG is wonderful when on the move. A bit grumpy in stop start traffic.
5. The Dynaudio is worth the spend. The power and clarity it generates is surprising for only a 300w system. The amplifier is boxed under the front passenger seat.
6. The premium bluetooth installed by Barloworld Mascot is how every bluetooth system should work. Call clarity is excellent. All the call information and features from her iPhone 3Gs appear on the screen or in a menu on the screen. You even get a digital number pad and a bar graph for your reception level. I fail to see how this bluetooth system could be improved.
7. Reversing camera changes the way you drive (well, backwards at least). Every car should come with one. Much safer (and MUCH easier) than trying look over your own shoulder or use the rear vision mirror.
8. Materials in the cabin are very good. They could be slightly better (some of the matt black plastics are not going to age well) but if they made it better it would then be Audi quality and that obviously is not what VW wants for this car.
9.The iPod cable has worked perfectly with her iPhone 3Gs. And it charges the phone. Haven't used the USB cable yet.
10. Window tint has no bubbles ... yet. Not sure of the %. I just asked for max legal all round.
11. Fog lamps have cornering function enabled. That is, the left one turns on (at low speeds) when turning left etc.
12. Footwell lamps stay on when driving. Nice.

thank's to the new car stimulus handed out a while ago, not sure though how much was it really passed onto buyers. 2nd hand market are really crap now, another good reason to keep the car and don't bother the trouble of selling it (although I sold my V35 grey import in 2 days - surprisingly). would be interesting to see the next ABS statistic update if that really brings the average age down.

For me its the longer doors and smaller fixed rear window that makes 3 door > 5 door. Practicallity wise having to constantly fold the seats forward for passengers is annoying so its lucky i dont have to deal with that!

Its prob best to inspect them before you buy as the quality can vary and the detail could be lacking. As for functionality as a wheel, they should have no problems.

Dont forget companies like VMR, Avant Guarde and Miro make essentially replicas of other wheels and they are popular in the US.

I never have been that big a fan of the Stock 17" GTI Denver rims and even less of a fan of the 18" Detroit rims.

As soon as I took delivery of my '10 GTI, I replaced its stock Denver rims with some rims from a S3 Audi. They were OK, but did not really have the look I was after.

My real quest was for some Talladega rims from the Golf R, but I have not been able to find a reasonably priced source for those rims here in the US.

Recently I came across some '10 Audi S4 rim Replicas that are very close to the Talladega rim, and in someways look even better. These are Asian replicas, of excellent quality, and only cost $400 US.

While 18" rims probably have the best visual balance for the Golf/GTI, for the time being I am staying with 17"s because of ride comfort, sidewall height, and the fact that the 17" tires that came with the car still have the majority of their tread left. When it comes time for new tires, I will probably migrate to 18"s.

It's a similar type of sealant that I the dealers get someone to apply and charge you $1000 for.
Unlike the dealer's magic fairy dust, the G|Techiq is at least advertised with a 5 year guarantee - although Surface Tech say it lasts about 2 to 3 years.

I kinda figure that since the car is already prepared for the wrap, and this goes on the wrap and on the paint, it seems like an alright deal.

I have both Ventureshield and GTechniq on my car and can honestly say that I am happy as larry with them. The bloke from Perth Graphics Centre went out of his way to put additional Ventureshield on at no extra cost which I was chuffed about and the GTechniq was applied everywhere, even on my wheels. Cost me $1500 for it all.

Ventureshield wise I would recommend the following areas (as I have them done)

- Full Bonnet
- Full Bumper and fron trim
- Full front quarter panels
- Full A-pillars
- Rear bumper scuff area

Only problem I have noticed with Ventureshield is that every so often if I get some pollen on it there is a slight stain until I put some major elbow grease in it to get out. Otherwise I am chuffed with it.

See below for a picture of my car with it on and you can't even notice it. I have had the car fo almost six months and haven't had to apply wax once.

Picked up my GTI from SCC at Wollongong - they really looked after me , very happy with the car and the dealer. This is the second car we've bought from them now.

I then had a great drive back via the Sea cliff bridge & Royal National park to Sydney. Managed to almost go thru' the entire park without running into another car.
Had fun playing with the ACC - definitely worth getting.

So now in joins my wifes EOS in the garage to make a happy family :banana:

As gas prices are in Death Valley today, US National gas prices will surely follow. I am glad my GTI gets 32 mpg! I'm not sure what you guys pay for premium gas but I think that this translates into about $5.43/gallon. Today on average US prices for premium are about $3.00/gallon, and Death Valley is famous for having the highest gas prices in the US.

Installed my LED Licence plate lamps on the weekend.

They are a no fault set up and included the hardware to not cause issues.

They are a full replacement lamps.

Again, an iPhone pis so excuse the ****e quality.
The pic also shows a fair amount of flaring but they are not like this.

So on the weekend I went around to my mate's place and we did some work on my R.
This included:
Installation of Lakin Plates brackets and covers on front and rear
Left side VW original equipment aspherical mirror glass
OSIR O-Rest
S2TPP DSG Paddle Shifters

We took photos of most of this... except for the DSG paddle shifters! Mostly cause the installation of them was a bit of a PITA and we forgot! They are SO worth it though!

The first photo is when we were setting up. I'd just removed the number plates which were secured by 3M Double-sided Clear tape, and I'd used eucalyptus oil to clean up the residue, and then Permanon to clear up the oil and "recoat" the paintwork:

Lining up the Lakin rear plate bracket was quite an anxious task thanks to the fact that there are no pre-drilled holes from the factory! (Thanks VW!). It's made worse by the fact that the plate area is NOT flat, and due to this, neither is the Lakin Plates bracket, and even worse, you then have a trapezoid surrounding. Anyway - two people makes this job easier. Just put masking tape around where you think the holes will be, then whilst one person holes the bracket, the other continually measures until you've got it exactly where you want, and then make the holes through the bracket. The bracket is attached via self-tapping screws, so we're really just making small pilot holes to ensure things go where we want them to.

Some people make their lives easier by just having the plate lined up along the bottom ledge of the bumper - but I wanted it more centralised just to make things more difficult!

Once the bracket is in place, it's then time to drill the holes in the top corners of the plate to attach it to the bracket via the cover:

Next up was the fitment of the front plate bracket. As you can see, I had some squished bugs on the front due to my drive to Lithgow (via Bells Line Of Road) and back (via Great Western Hwy) the night before. I'd cleaned up the area where the plate bracket was to attach. If you look carefully you can see that the 4 factory made holes are currently covered by the Ventureshield installed by Surface Tech:

After slicing a + into the Ventureshield over each hole, and putting in the Lakin Plates supplied nylon screw plug spacer thingamybobs, the plate bracket and then plate and cover were on within 10 minutes:

We then did the left side VW OE aspherical mirror glass (http://www.ecstuning.com/Volkswagen-Golf_VI--2.0T/Exterior/Mirrors/ES1172960/). Didn't think that was exciting enough to take photos at the time. Basically it's identical to the glass in the driver's mirror. I just adjusted the left mirror so that there was some space between it and the housing on all sides, then got my fingers (and nails) and pulled out the original mirror with a moderate amount of force. Then just unclip the two wires for the mirror heating, connect them up to the new mirror, and then push it into place with a mild amount of force. I'll take a photo myself at some point.


Next up, the OSIR O-Rest. This is secured with 3 self tapping screws. However, there is very little clearance for a drill to get in make the pilot holes so we decided to take the footrest and its attached trim out of the car. This is secured by a single allen key and a single flat blade screw:

The OSIR O-Rest uses 3 self-tapping screws with allen key heads. So again, we just drilled 3 small pilot holes to ensure things line up how we want. I also put some strips of the 3M Double-sided clear tape under the two plastic pieces which make up the black inserts. I didn't remove the backing for the tape; it's literally just there to provide some pressure so the plastic doesn't rattle etc:

Next up we did the S2TPP DSG Paddle Shifter installation. VW have really made the MK6 steering wheel difficult to dismantle! Some people report being able to do the installation on their MKV's on their own, but I would highly recommend anyone doing it on a MK6 to have a trusty and capable friend with them. We completely forgot to stop and take photos of each step, but I'll have some photos of the end result later.

Anyway, it was now evening and I was late for meeting my girlfriend and friends at the Carol's In The Domain, so we took one extra shot before I left:

I can't say about retrofitting the LED DRL to the MY10's. There's an option in the lights setup of the MFD which lets you turn off the DRL. So the MFD programming might be different? :confused:

The LED DRLs are really bright - even during daytime can see it far away.

Fab_R if u dont mind me asking, how much did the wheels+tyre combo set you back? Yours looks like a quality wheel, im considering not ordering the 18" Detroits on the GTI and trading in the 17" Denvers for a better looking 18" wheel. If you traded your original wheels in, did you get a fair trade value? Thanks :)

i've seen a brand new set of Denvers + Potenza RE050 sold for $1280 in eBay (melbourne seller),
a set with 1 week old Denvers and almost brand new Michelin Pilot Sport 3 for $1500 (this was a special case),
there's currently a Melb seller of a set with 350kms travel only, $1100 and no bites since last month.
also have seen a couple of sets, used between 300-3000kms, sold between $850 (with a kerb mark)-$1100.

it all depends if there's someone wanting it so much or not.

Mmmm just installed Carbonio Stage I + II

Sound wise its a little louder than stock but not as aggressive as I thought it would be. Would have liked the intake sound to be a bit louder but i cant complain as i prefer the look over the other intakes on the market. Decided to get the stage 2 pipe just for the more clean look. Also I rotated the maf 180° so its hidden.

In terms of install it can be a pain for a first timer but im glad i have all the tools and have some tinkering knowledge. Those factory hose clamps can be a pain especially the ones close to the turbo for the stage 2 pipe, a must have tool is a remote hose clamp pliers! The only other hard part was putting the filter on over the supplied pipe but with muscle and a really small screw driver i got there in the end. One tip i have is to put the filter pipe and maf together and clamp them on and install them as one. The install instructions are pretty detailed so i would recommend diy over paying a shop to do it.

In terms of performance feels abit more responsive but that could just me as I havent chipped the car yet. Might do that either next week or week after as having gotten a ride in a R, my car is too slow!!!
