Hi. My first post.
Waiting on a 3door GTI 6 speed, in Torndao Red, which I'm picking up Next Friday :)

Anyway, on the topic of GTs Wheels magazine mentioned that they are expected in Aus in September, so you probably saw one of the evaluation cars.

A few GTs have been spotted now. I reckon they'll be launched before September too.

thought someone told me its coming in May?
test driven one, taking of on uphills a bit hard, but otherwise, heaps and heaps of low torque there and its a very fast car indeed

Just noticed a mention in a Wheels mag that GT will be priced at $38,490

If that's the RRP the for 3 door then for $1500 more you can have a GTI.

I know the GT is good, but $38990 doesn't sound like value to me.

Our dealer in Hobart got 3 the other day. They haven't detailed them yet so a drive isn't ready yet.

The article states $34990 ... which is considerably better. Might go test one. :D

According to my tame VW salesman (who is being very nice to me at the moment as I recently brought a new T5 van from him and am also considering a new VW sedan or wagon), VWoA are only bringing in the 125Kw 1.4 petrol motor version, not the 125Kw TDI. He did say that they are going to put the 125Kw TDI motor into the Passat later this year (not sure if this replaces the current 104Kw TDI motor or is an extra option).

Also I have heard that Skoda may be bringing in the Octavia vRS models (including wagons ?) with either the 147Kw TFSI (ie Golf GTI petrol motor) and 125Kw TDI motors, supposedly for less money than the Golf GTI. Don't know how much less, and don't know when. They don't seem to be making much progress with their dealer network so far, so their planned Oct 2007 release date looks a bit optimistic to me. I'll keep hoping for a fast, reasonably priced VAG Golf sized wagon, even if it doesn't have a VW badge

I understand they (VW Australia) announced to the dealer network this week you can now order the 125kw GTi / TDi and they will be on dealers floors in a few months time.

Excellent news! :)

Actually I meant the GTI version of the TDI

With this engine 2.0-litre TDI 170PS

They actually call it the GT Sport in the UK....

I was told that the projected price was going to be around $34,500 plus on road. He actually said that was for the DSG version. I dont beleive him on that! No one can drive the 3 GTs here till june, which is when they are to be officially released.
Cheers, Andrew:)

I got a quote today in Brisbane - I was quoted $37,500 driveaway. During our short test drive 2 people tried wanted to race lol. I guess it may have had something to do with that big TSI decal on the side of the car :P

I will will probably end up paying the extra $2300 for the DSG gearbox (same as the demo car today) so should be just over $40k with euro plates. Hopefully I don't wrap it around a tree or something as this will be my first car :)

Already advertising them in the AGE newspaper in Melb. Pushing the line good performance and gret fuel economy. Double page spread inside front cover of mag insert. Picture of a guy filling up the tank with a little glas jar half full of petrol.
