Audi Australia has announced confirmed pricing ahead of the official introduction of the R8 in Australia later this year.

The Audi brand made Motorsport history with its Le Mans Prototype LMP R8 race car. The name R8 became synonymous with superior performance, unswerving reliability and the intelligent use of power. Following in the footsteps of this highly-successful race car, the Audi has now unveiled a high-performance series production car of the same name.

In September 2007, the first Audi R8 will enter the market priced at $259,900 for the 6-speed manual version. The R-tronic variant will be priced at $274,900. The Audi R8 boasts a 4.2-litre V8 FSI engine with 309kW and 430Nm.

With this vehicle, Audi is taking its first steps into the segment o high-performance sports coupes and raising automotive technology to a higher level.

Thanks to its mid-engined concept and quattro drivetrain, the R8 is blessed with high directional stability on the road, coupled with large reserves of lateral acceleration. The spontaneous, free-revving V8 engine is powerful and sporty and is supported by Audi’s magnetic ride adaptive damping system which improves handling and offers greater comfort even in this true sportscar.

Audi’s Space Frame ASF aluminium technology allows a significant reduction in vehicle weight, yet offers extreme rigidity and body strength for driver enjoyment and safety.

If I'd known they were that cheap I'd have ordered two.

Dad reckons he's gonna check em out, although he's always wanted a porsche and doesnt want to spend that much money.

Apparently 4 orders have already been taken by the Canberra dealer. On top of the two RS4 "demos" they've barely had time to take off the truck before finding a buyer.
