Well, first of all, hello. My girlfriend and I just purchased a schmick 2006 Jetta 2.0FSI in black. What a car. We love it and are now fighting to see who gets to drive it!! It has the DSG gearbox, the optional leather seats and is just a really nice car to drive. We are thinking about retro fitting a new touchscreen unit from a new golf into it actually and am currently looking around at how to do it so hopefully I can find out all of the info I need.

Welcome to the forums Leon.
From memory the 06 MkV models require a canbus update to allow the use of an RCD510/RNS510

Is the FSI a non turbo?
VW did the name switch around then and I can never remember which one it is.

Are you coming to the meet up tonight?

If it has the DSG box, it would have to be a Turbo of TFSI.

Welcome to VWW mate, we can never have enough Jetta drivers on here.

I figured it would be the Turbo but wasn't 100% sure.

The mk5 Jetta is/was definitely a great looking car.

Yeah it is the Turbo. It is basically a GTI golf with a boot. Dad has a GTI and it is exactly the same. It has the sports leather, the DSG, 17" rims, GTI brakes, and obviously, the GTI engine. I will post up a couple of pics once I have had a chance to get the camera out. Had a little scare this morning actually on the way to work. The EPC light as well as the engine shaped light came on on the dash. Hopefully should be nothing to major but we took it straight back to the dealer where we purchased it from and they will hook it up and diagnose the problem. Will let you know what happens. One of these days we might attend a meet if the missus is interested. We sold my girlfriends 13 year old falcon so it is a step up in quality. I have kept my very well looked after XR8 though. Can't beat the sound of a Ford Windsor V8 with an exhaust. Anyhow, the black Jetta and the Red XR8 look good together in the garage. Will post pics soon as mentioned.

Ps. Yeah I have worked out that I need to update the CAN BUS but I am still working out all the specifics and prices. Will keep researching.

If you're interested, there's a dyno day tomorrow at Springwood. You don't necessarily have to run your car (I'm not) but it's good to just meet a few new faces.

Interesting Maca. Let me know the details and I will see where we are at. We have to go down the coast tomorrow morning so it might be doable (if the car doesn't have any problems after its little diagnostic session with VW today, which I don't think it will). Just asking the question, do you know of anyone up here in Brissie who has fitted a new touchscreen radio/CD player to their MkV Jetta or Golf? I can get one rather cheap for $350. Just looking at how much more it is going to cost me on top of the new CAN BUS which I have no idea on for cost either.

There are about 1000 guides on the internet if you search "retrofit (insert stereo name) mkv golf".
If the unit is plug and play it should be relatively easy to do.

I did the one in my tiguan in 10 minutes.

The info is in the Events section of the forum, it's in Yatala just behind the service station thing.

Oh and I think Team V just volunteered :P

I would gladly bring the Torx bits + butter knife along to the next meet to do the switcheroo.
I haven't done a canbus update though but if there is a guide and some help is needed then i can try to lend a hand.

Can't make it saturday but maybe another day.
