Hey All,
New to the water cooled forums. Have had my Diesel Polo for three years now and really enjoy it. Great fuel economy and basic features. Great little vehicle for getting around Melbourne. I use it to go the beach a lot and the Cruise control as standard helps on the highway. Have had 6 surfboards stacked on the roof racks at times.
Hope to learn some things about vehicle care and tips off the Golf World forums. Also interested in doing some basic things like changing the oil/oil filter myself between the major services.
Tom.

thanks GoLfMan.
I've been reading around on some of the forums trying to ascertain if my Polo has a DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter or not). As the VW manual gives engine/oil specs for the engine with and without a DPF.
The DPF warning light symbol is present in the dash (you can see the outline), but doesn't light up during startup. So this added to my confusion.
I checked in this forum (http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/f28/diesel-particulate-filter-17587.html) but no definitive answer here either.
I guess the best way to tell is looking under the hood ?

our Polo's weren't fitted with a DPF as far as I know! :) There's your answer!

Thanks GolfMan.
Also I think I read this in a forum that in Australia we do not use the so called "Long Life service schedule". So the manual specifies the oil without long life service (on an engine without DPF) to conform to VW standard 506 01.
Is that the standard you have followed for your oil selection ?

i use Fuchs, its pretty expensive but I trust it :)
I generally do my oil changes at 7500kms. I just dont like the idea of oil (no matter how good it is!) being in my engine for 15,000kms.
Also get your intake cleaned out. I can guarantee you that there will be a build up of crap in there!
