I think it looks ok with the blue as it matches the RCD310 or whatever is standard in the car.

Agree, but I guess when the new model came out, the whole console and display would be white, that would be okay as well

I called my dealer yesterday to switch the production date for my Polo.... Purely because I think the black/white climate screen will match far better.
My car was due to be made in Week 49 of 2010, and now it'll be week 2 of 2011 for far better cosmetic value imho.

I find it funny how the poms get a Sunroof when their weather does not favour such a great accessory (English summer) last time i remember i think here in Australia we have more Sun Saturation then they do thus more (logical) reason to have it here first.
Quite stupid to be honest.

My car is due to arrive, and on the documentation it states its an MY11. I optioned the audio pack and comfort pack so do i have the new white backlit controls. It will suit my rcd510 much better

It will have the blue-lit climate control if it is already made. The black/white display is only on cars manufacruated from week 2 of 2011.

When you say week 2 2011, what stage of the Production Schedule do you mean? My car has items in the production schedule either side of week 2 2011.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Would it be hard to change a light bulb somewhere, if the only difference is the colour of backlighting?

Actually it's stupid the other way, we get plenty of sun in Australia so why the need for extra light in the car during the day whereas in the UK they don't get as much so any additional light would be welcome.

Changing a "bulb" isn't possible.
The old one is a positive LCD and the new one is a negative LCD.

Actually the take up of Sunroofs in Europe is inversely related to hours of sunlight. Areas like spain and southern italy also have low sunroof takeup rates. Who wants to let more sun in on a blisteringly hot summers day?

Kane-St-Kane; what stage of the schedule was your car at at week 49 of 2010? What kind of delay did it make to the arrival of your car? I am thinking of going to my dealer and ask the question [I bet they can't wait to hear from me!]
Kane-St-Kane

It was being manufactured in week 49 wholly as far as I know.
I just put it back further to week 10 because then I'll be able to get the panoramic roof.

I have been told that if I want to delay my order to get the updated Climate Control unit I need to cancel my order and reorder. They are confirming that, but it looks like I will be stuck with black on blue; which is a little annoying given that the new unit would have matched nicely with the upgraded audio package.

How do you mean? There is no change at the moment given that nothing has changed; I wasn't expecting that delaying the production of my order would have an affect on the price given that it is not modifying the standard features of the comfort pack. Do Volkswagen usually charge for this type of thing?

I guess it depends on when your ordered car was being made. Changes can usually be made up until manufacturing is started, for no cost (other than the cost of the upgrade). Either your VW dealer is a shonk or the car has already entered the manufacturing process.
Either way; VW & eBay will have the new climate control unit for sale next year (it is a replaceable part afterall).

I would cancel, just say it's because of delay. Go order somewhere else, because the car isn't quite as rare now you could probably get a better deal too.

Is a different colour screen on the climate control that important?
Mine is blue and whilst it would be nice to have the matching one, who cares! If you really want it, just buy it as a spare part or you will probably be able to buy one on Ebay in the not too distant future.

Given that we have been waiting for months, just like everyone else, I think I might be in a tad of hot water with my wife if I cancelled the order and started again. We have ordered all factory options; unfortunately that won't get us the features you got Billecartz [Still annoyed about the underseat drawers, rear sensors and additional power outlet in the boot].

The rear sensors are great, especially how they intergrate with RCD510. The draws and power outlet are over rated, if they werent there I wouldn't care.
The car just keeps getting better, just drove to Melbourne and back and averaged 5.9 litres per 100 km. Fantastic to drive and good for overtaking.

Hello VW - friends in Australia.
I would like to briefly introduce myself. My name is Markus and I come from the other end of the world, from Germany.
I drive a Polo 6R Highline from 02.2010
Last week I read on the Internet, has with you in Australia, the operating unit of the air conditioner to get a new display.
The display was changed from blue / positive to white / negative. Here in Germany, which is not made.
I would have liked but the operating unit in white / negative.
As is shown in Australia because the temperature? In ° Celsius or ° Fahrenheit
Hat maybe one of you the part number for the operating unit white / negative?
I would be delighted if one of you some information I would get it.
For my bad English, I apologize in advance ... already
Greetings

Hello VW - friends in Australia.
...
Markus
Hi Markus! it looks like you're not the only one from Old Continent :)
I have same problem as Yours :( I contacted VW Australia and they suggested me to contact local importer to solve the problem; then I start look on the web for a dealer, talked with him (he's based in Perth) and then I arrived here asking more infos!
I hope I'll get one, 'cause I'd like to have all the panels and instruments matching!
Consider, all of You, my car was produced in 2nd week of 2011, so it had to have new panel, but unfortunately in Europe it will not possible to get it, since European importers don't want to import it :(
To answer your question, about temp, I believe Australian ACs have Celsius (as in Europe, except UK), at least looking at this photo (linked from Maverick's site)
http://www.vwwatercooled.com.au/forums/images/imported/2010/11/volkswagen_my115_model_year_change_polo_-1.jpg
Only ways is to get here from Australia or China, but I prefer the first one :D

Just wondering if anyone has received a MY11.5 polo yet mate got his a few weeks ago and it was still a MY11 as the climate control was still blue and black and I'm really hoping mine comes with the negative white on black to match the Rcd-510

Mine arrived a week ago and it has the blue one. :(
It was manufactured in February I think. I'd have to double check the date on the chassis, but I was a bit bummed. It doesn't match with a single thing on the dash in the blue.
Hmmm, i'm hoping the March built polos are MY 11.5 now! Check your build plate crumbs and let us know....

Hanging out Geoffiez, let us know the date on the build plate too so we can work out the changeover date!

That's the one thing I have noticed on mine...low light or night, when the blue screen is lit it is very hard to quickly read the display. The contrast between the blue screen and black text symbols takes my eyes some time to adjust. A dangerous amount of time. I can see that the white and black 11.5 change is probably a safety feature more than a cosmetic one.
I'd happily pay for a change over (of the control unit) to reduce the time it takes me for my eyes to adjust and decipher the blue and black...

Personally, big deal if you have the blue screen, even if you can't see it at night. With the auto aircon, I set the temperature and forget it. How often will you fiddle with it, anyway?
I'm just happy the under seat drawers are still there! Now that's practical!
Build date 02/2011, and yes, a blue screen.

I dont have either on mine so it def is a MY 11.5 just presume theyve still got bucket loads of the blue climate controls to install :(
i was really hoping id have the drawers
Yours is only a 77TSI yeah? Only the GTI came with these features. i wonder if due to the higher volumes out of the Pamplona plant if they get them first, they would be less likely to keep high stock levels in store....

Oh well...
At least the under-seat drawers are there.
Just realised that the other MY11.5 delete was standard fitment of reversing sensors! F**k you VW, you have once again lied bare faced too all of us about our cars! I wouldn't care so much if they hadn't said that all the MY11.5 changes would be on or off my car but now, AGAIN! it proves that you and your useless little puppets here in australia have no idea what the hell is going on in your company! Then, you will say that the update does become available and charge us all $1000 for the updated unit when it becomes available, yet it will only cost you $87 to make, like the other control units you have done out of taiwan....
Wednesday rant over and done with:)

When you say standard fitment, do you mean no longer offered by VW (factory/dealer fit) at all, or only now offered as an extra-cost option? I wasn't aware reversing sensors were ever standard fitment.
Yeah, first builds had the sensors as standard... Oh well, time to save up for white screen climate control....

When I signed up and ticked the audio upgrade package, I asked the dealer to specify in the contract the exact items included (MDI, RCD510, etc). But the dealer refused, stating they couldn't possibly know what a MY12 GTI will have for upgraded audio features 12 months from now.
Now on the plus side, my dealer didn't want to make any promises they couldn't keep. But the obvious negative is agreeing to pay extra for optional extras with specs yet to be determined.
I don't think it's too much of a concern with the audio system, but I can see how other pending owners aren't happy about changes and the lack of communication...
I don't think there will be a my12 update anytime soon though, mk4 was on sale for 7 years, in that time I only know of 1 my change an that was 18 month in, the my2000 update....

The Golf had MY10, MY11, MY11.5 updates.
There are also "MY12" updates - but these appear to more be along the line of "you can no longer order x,y, and z - and a and b options are now included standard".
I'd say that the "MY12" updates for the Polo are along the same lines (Savanna Yellow not being available anymore, etc).

Corey_R
13-05-2011, 12:34 PM
Well... for a car such as the Polo, that'd involve VW developing a new bluetooth kit which is crap enough to compete with the Toyotas and stuff etc. It's not like Toyota are giving you what was last year a $2000 bluetooth kit...
I mean, lets compare apples to apples shall we. You pay $23490 for a base model Corolla on the road, and they don't even give you a complete rear seat! Don't believe me... then you haven't looked at a Corolla recently....
totallysour
13-05-2011, 04:44 PM
While the VW bluetooth unit does integrate nicely it is my understanding that you will not get integration with the MFD on a standard polo (correct me if I'm wrong here) due to it's midline MFD. While it may be a better unit than that in a Toyota, how much more are you really getting for your $700+?
Try $800+...... It's a joke, I don't understand how, a unit that is on ebay for max $350AUD can suddenly have a 150% markup put on it at the dealer when in teh factory, it would be lucky to cost $5 to install out of a labour rate....
And who says car companies only make money off the sale of spare parts and servicing..... ;) Porsche anyone.....?

If you look at the history of cars what is in the option pack will most likely be standard however there will be newer options in the option pack. Why should they give away options for free and potentially make a loss on the car?

You mean the unit that's on ebay that is most likely from a dodgy source or used? That doesn't have GST, stamp duty, LCT (where applicable), transport costs, warranty costs, wiring costs, dealer margin and so forth included?

Did anyone else notice in the latest Motor's Full Frontal article (APR Polo GTI v Focus RS) the side bar on page 59?
"... speculation suggests new model year VWs will feature switchable ESP."
Anyone here heard something similar ? Is this only referring to Golfs?
Corey_R
14-05-2011, 09:56 AM
It has certainly been discussed in the Golf MK6 forums. (http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/f112/new-golf-rs-gtis-will-have-updated-software-can-disable-esp-completely-55066.html)
If they do include switchable esc then goodbye xdl because that's basically what controls the xdl, aka esc applying the brake on the front inside wheel when you go into a corner too hot. Mp4-12c does exactly the same thing but on the inside rear wheel.

RoknRob
15-05-2011, 10:48 AM
Wait a minute, gavs. Why do you have to say good bye to the xdl? Why can't it just not function while your esp is switched off, but back on again when you switch esp back on?
BTW, I'm not in my car at the moment, but I could swear I have a switch on the dash to turn it off... could I be wrong?
Off doesn't mean off, contrary to whatever crap the salespeople tell you. Xdl is a false acronym that vw have created because the "extended differential lock" translates to "esc braking the inside front wheel", it has nothin to do with the differential at all. If you turn esc off then the software to utilise the xdl function would need to be entirely re-written. They would be better off chucking it and just putting an LSD in instead...
