always a good base when you do mods mate. Then you do dynos after the mods and compare. But having said that i have seen 3 different stock Polo dynos all read within 1kw iirc so i do understand where you are coming from. But hopefully mine wont be stock by the Dyno day. ;)

Yeah, I'm really keen to check out how the Bluefin fares on the dyno. The guys down in Canberra seem to have produced some pretty outrageous numbers, so hopefully a run with my '07 GTI with Bluefin should sort them out.

Ha ha
Thats more like it. I was hoping they would be closer given they are both pretty much the same engine.

I had a closer look and if you go by the scale on the left (KW) it would be like 117kw. The peak is a fair bit above the 115KW line. But 115kw = 156 PS
and shows as less than 150 PS on these charts. :???:

Well, im still dissapointed seeing as other polos with the APR chip have gone over 120wkw....Maybe another dyno pull or 2 could have yielded a better peak.

29-07-2007, 09:26 PM
Mate dont worry about it. IMHO Different dynos give different readings. I knew a guy who took his car to 3 different dynos in a day and got a 20kw difference. Dynos are a tuning tool not a definitive power reading.

Yep Mitchell - got your trophy & fifty bucks prize money!

Good result considering it was a Bosch dyno (No correction factors, no software or ramp rates to modify)

It was a shame we didnt have a stock Polo to compare yours to. :)

with the oettinger chip, cai tubing, gfb/or forge dv (used both) i got 115kw atw. with few mods now im on the 127 mark running lean still argh!. so that gives u an idea too!

Guy_H
30-07-2007, 11:00 AM
What everyone forgot to say also was this is a genuine Bosch Dyno

No correction factors
No ramp rate changes
No PC smoothing (actually there is no PC attached)
No operator intervention.

The graph actually plots straight onto the paper during the run.

So its a dead honest horsepower at the wheels :)

The best run by a drag beetle was about 120hp @ wheels - it runs 10 seconds or so (just for comparison).

Fuzion, If your car is running lean, why don't you take it back to Paul Muller to get him to look at it for you (he offered to do it for no charge) ?

If you are running lean, you could detonate & destroy your motor - and you have stated a heap of times you even know its running lean.

If your car is like Julians that was running lean - he replaced a $2 vac line to the fuel pressure regulator & it was all good (oettinger chip also).

Fuzion, If your car is running lean, why don't you take it back to Paul Muller to get him to look at it for you (he offered to do it for no charge) ?

If you are running lean, you could detonate & destroy your motor - and you have stated a heap of times you even know its running lean.

If your car is like Julians that was running lean - he replaced a $2 vac line to the fuel pressure regulator & it was all good (oettinger chip also).

guy, the vac line is brand new. so definately not that! it will be changed when turbo upgrade gets done anyhow! thanks anyhow :P

i was just giving a insight on the reading on mk4

Is it time to change to a 3.5 or 4.0bar fuel pressure regulator?

Yep Mitchell - got your trophy & fifty bucks prize money!

Good result considering it was a Bosch dyno (No correction factors, no software or ramp rates to modify)

It was a shame we didnt have a stock Polo to compare yours to.

Ooops, I diddnt realise there were trophys for the new dubs...Do i still win with the 113kw result?? I had to leave early to pick up my g/f so thanks for holding on to it, ill sort out a pickup. :)

with the oettinger chip, cai tubing, gfb/or forge dv (used both) i got 115kw atw. with few mods now im on the 127 mark running lean still argh!. so that gives u an idea too!

I've previously got 116.5kw atw on Dyno Dynamics without the Air Filter or forge DV. This setup feels stronger, yet this dyno had lower figures.
Only 2kw difference to the Polo, which is about the same setup but 6.5years younger.
I bet I could get 120 something if I went back to that other dyno and had them set the computer to the same settings as last time.

Just checked the ACT dyno day results.
Chipped Polo GTI + MK4 GTI ranging 126-135 KW.
It just shows rollers aint rollers.

Thats right, have a look at the last sydney dyno day and they most likely will be slightly different again.

Don't you just love dynos such a great topic;)

When will people learn the folly of using dynos to compare outputs between different cars? It does nothing but generate controversy. n:

The real value of a dyno is as a tuning tool, to show the deltas generated by the addition/removal of different mods/tunes on the same car on the same dyno. Other uses inevitably become exercises in excessive self-stimulation between naive but consenting adults :D

Mate dont worry about it. IMHO Different dynos give different readings. I knew a guy who took his car to 3 different dynos in a day and got a 20kw difference. Dynos are a tuning tool not a definitive power reading.

Couldnt agree more timbo. Just tryng to prove my point.

yes yes, im sorry if my reasons for wanting to see are higher number are so "low level and naive," i do understand the purpose of a dyno for tuning. Thing is, this day was organised as a bit of fun to compare readings, so it would have been nice to get a number toward the higher side of expectations. Thats all i meant.

Anyhow, im not questioning the power output of the car, it feels plenty fast enough on the road.
