Hi everyone, i'm only new to this forum but have been driving my GTI for around 5 months now. Wife made me sell my bike so i said i needed something in exchange.

i've been looking around at performance mods to get a bit more out of the car and was wondering if anyone could give me some advice.

1. What's better Oettinger or APR? any other reputable brands out there?
2. COST$$$$
3. Where do you get it done? i live in Sydney
4. Looking at upgrading the software and possibly an air intake. Exhaust i'll leave till later when i get more $$$$.
5. Anyone had issues with getting warranty repairs done after they have had mods carried out?

That's about all for now.

Great forum, and good to see other enthusiasts out there.... where would we be without the internet?

Thanks fella's

From what I've heard APR and Oettinger is the same software... but they coem with different warranty i think.
The popular flash is GIAC. People have been complaining about the APR reflash... apparently causes some power out etc...
Be preprared for a battle to claim warranty if your dealer caught you modding the car... sometimes they go to the extreme to avoid doing any warranty!

There's also REVO Technik. www.revotechnik.com.au available for the Mark 5 GTI.

Thanks fella's for the info, might let my fingers do the walking now and have a chat with them. Basically comes down to a handful of company's, APR, Oettinger, GIAC and Revotechnik. Just have to make sure i'm comparing them fairly before making a decision.

Well made my decision and went with APR. Had the 98 octane program installed and i was dam impressed with the gain in low end torque and top end horse power.

In 1st gear there isn't alot of difference (probably because the TRC is working overtime, haven't driven without it yet). Most noticeable improvement is in 2nd and 3rd gears where the car pulls like a freight train (is this what other people who had the upgrade are experiencing). i also could not feel any real torque steer... zie Germans sure know how to build cars!!

Went cruising yesterday with a friend who drives an Evo IX. i wanted to see how the car performed with the new upgrade so i used his car as a bench mark. Rolling start at 20kmph, both cars were neck and neck up to 100kmph which is where i stopped due to the posted speed limit. n: Standing start would have been a different story though.

On tight twisites through the national park, the GTI had no problems keeping with the EVO however when pushed the advatages of AWD were visible.

Overall i'm very happy with the gains. i know it's alot of money to fork out. For me, it was well worth it.

Oh yeah, when i was at the mechanic's getting the CPU reprogramed i notice a complete GTI Mark V APR exhaust on the ground. Someone installed it (used it for about 6 months) and then sold his GTI but the new buyer wanted the stock exhaust put back on... so if you want one let me know and i'll give you the contact, i think it's about $1000 off retail being second hand and all. Looked like it was in good condition.... still shiny with no dings.
