To those that are getting clutches fixed...how are they going? Are you putting standard ones in or heavy duty? When I bought mine it had just had a Sachs clutch fitted as the first one would have gone around 130k I suspect. I believe they are good and can take a bit of stick.

Waiting on delivery of a Fidanza lightened flywheel and sachs clutch from the states. :)

i'll tell you on tuesday, I just bought a LUK clutch kit, it goes in on monday. And not a day too soon. I just drove home from moorrabin, to Bunyip! with the clutch slipping the whole way. Very sucks.

I couldn't afford a sachs, was simply too expencive. When im employed fyull time, i'll fit a better clutch (if theres anything wrong with mine.)

How long do VR6 clutches last in general? Mines gone at 140,000km. I belive it to be it's first.

I wouldn't know exactly but 140K sounds normal I guess. My car has done 140K now and has gone through one. My old alfa Boxer 16V went at 120K. I guess it depends on the way you drive it.
Good luck with it all

I dont think my clutch has ever been replaced and im on 210000kms. I got the car at 110k and have driven it hard ever since! It does feel a bit tired tho.

clutches are a strange one,

my VR6 has done just shy of 200 thousand.
My alfa gtv had done 150 odd and was still going strong but my Alfa 90 had only done 10k on the new clutch when the pressure plate failed!

haha...Alfa's....My '92 33Boxer 16V went through clutch, gearbox, brakes, you name it......so maybe they are not such a good example...fun cars though. Dubs seem to bea little more bulletproof.

I think i did 20,000km on a new Exedy in my magna, before a peice of the pressure plate broke off. The clutch plate was in new condition. that sucked.

Mine had a new clutch in just before I bought it. Feels nice. No idea what brand it is or anything.

Whats the advantage of putting in a nicer one?

My clutch was going when I bought it. I bought a new one in December, was pretty good can't complain ;)

no idea honestly, i havent really looked into it. I'm getting the flywheel too because it only cost me a $100usd more to get it aswell, postage stayed the same and it would have cost me ~$80 to have the factory flywheel machined anyway!

err arent the fidanza flywheels stupidly expensive

BlackVr6ix

605 usd posted to me for a sachs clutch and the fidanza flywheel.

sounded like a good deal to me considering the cheapest clutch i could find in aus right now was 493 + gst + freight!

I checked again and maybe it was $200 usd more, but it was still worth it!

yeah its unfortunate but getting stuff direct from overseas seems to be the only way.

Sad but true. i cant wait to see what difference a 2.5kg flywheel does to the car :D

i hope its driveable!

Tim

haha yeah thats stupidly light. But thats ok. u can be my guinea pig :D I need to get my hands on a flywheel soon.

BlackVr6ix

You cant have the peloquin! but.. the 3.94 R&P is up for sale! you'd need to get a TDI 5th tho

BlackVr6ix
26-04-2007, 10:51 AM
I wish i had the money! second on the list i promise. why the tdi 5th?

i'm actually looking for some cheap coilovers, seeing that the aussie dollar is looking decent at the moment (and my stock suspension struts are on the way out so i'd have to change them anyway when i install my lowered springs). there are plenty of sets kicking around for ~600aud delivered, i just have to decide which brand.

KW for the win! :D

Are y'all getting this stuff installed by mechs or DIY'ing?

ScienceVR6
26-04-2007, 01:33 PM
i worked at ultra tune for 3 years, and am still good mates with the owners and staff. They are doing the install at a heavily discounted rate. They are the ones who named me Science!

BlackVr6ix

Was going to DIY, but i dont have the time now :(

at the moment i think i'll get volkspower to do it unless anyone can suggest a cheaper alternative.

Loaded the Golf onto a Tandem trailer on saturday and draged its sorry arse down to Ultra tune to get the clutch done. Dad complained that the Mighty golf was weighing down the LandCruiser on the hills, despite siting on a steady 100km the whole way there. The job gets done monday (as stated previously) and i realy cant wait to get back on the road. ATM im driving my lovley girlfriends Toyota Yaris 1.3 around, and it feels like someone stole half my motor (1.3 vs 2.6! 63kw vs 128kw, the cars weigh the same, well nearly....)

I replaced my clutch with a Sachs one at around 205,000km but I think it had a little more life left in it if I had taken it easy.

I have 97,000km on my VTR1000 clutch and it slips at around 6000+rpm in the the lower gears.

Oops, my bad. My magna was 2.6, i get so confused.

Its still less than half the size.

So how is the new clutch & Flywheel?

ScienceVR6

Should be back today, they broke some of the clips on the shifter and Volkswagen lost/misplaced them.

It'll be worth the wait, i might even come on this cruise on friday if i can clock up some k's on it :D

BlackVr6ix

ITS BACK!!!!!!!!!!!

now my clutch pedal is as soft as, but the replacement of the shifter bit has improved the shifter feel alot.

car takes off much nicer now and gear changes seem to be smoother, but that could just be the new shifter bit.

i cant just release the clutch a little to roll forward at the lights now which could be a problem, but apart from that there seems to be no noticable downside to the fidanza flywheel :D

So the revs dnt drop off fast like losing momentum when u let off? n does it climb the revs faster? these r two things id assume wat would happen wid a lightened fly? dno . . . :? was it worth it then?

BlackVr6ix
17-05-2007, 09:21 AM
the revs drop off faster than normal but its not as bad as people make it out to be (i do think i have a vaccum leak thou which may not be helping) the revs climb much faster, 1st gear is over in a flash :D

it was worth every cent :D
