For those who have installed or had installed fire extinguishers for track days, can you please share pictures of your setup?

Just trying to locate the best place to install it without too much fuss. I can organise a bracket for the front passenger seat however, its not as easy simple as I'd hope.

I have two 1kg extinguishers mounted behind the front seats. The mounting brackets are fixed to the flat metal bar that runs underneath the back of the seat, and the clasps are mounted to make it easy for someone in one seat to lean back and unclip the extinguisher behind the other seat. The bracket with the single quick-release is mounted behind the passenger's seat so it can be reached from the driver's side more easily.

Not a problem in my case - the rear seats lasted less than 4 hours after picking up the car before they were removed and boxed up for storage.

Thanks for that. Was looking to create a bracket at the bottom of the front passenger seat. It's just that the rails aren't as user-friendly as I'd hoped it would be.

Will need to have a garage fabricate a simple one.

~12mths have passed, surely some of you have added extinguishers in other interesting places in your pog?

Mine is currently here.. there is a hook in the back of the seat which I took advantage of

however I have been advised that this is no longer acceptable as it is only being held in by one bolt. Its ****ing tight and doesnt move, but thats how the rules go I guess

So im on the hunt for another location. James' looks pretty good so ill have to have a look at it when I get home tonight, but I am still keen to see what others have done :)

And rear passengers are no problem for me either. I have a 2nd "beat around" daily driver for passenger carrying :P

Well i gave up on waiting for an answer (impatient i know :emo_baghead: ) So I decided to try another avenue if anyone tracking their pog is interested...

The 9N Polo has three hook points bolted in at the back of the back seat (baby seat points? i dunno). So i removed the hooks and custom made an aluminium bracket (18 bucks from bunnings). I drilled holes in the aluminium to line up with the mounting points and bolted it in with the standard bolts. Prior to this, I drilled two more holes into the aliminium to securely mount the extinguisher bracket.

Sorry for the crappy pic but this is how I did it

Fixed 3mm aluminium flat rail bolted using seat bolts & bent to clear the underseat drawer
removable mount for extinguisher made of 90 degree aluminium

Hazrd - I'll assume that when tracking the car that you'll have the rear seats down so it's within reach? Otherwise it's going to be a PITA should you ever need it.

I was looking at that location aswell but it looks like my drawer still gets in the way? Will definietely have to check yours out aswell though mate. I will give you a call on Friday and see where you are (hopefully the weather hold out, and i dont get called into work again)

oh yeah for sure! the scruitineer guys wouldnt accept it otherwise ;) its actually a really good spot, i dont even have to move my body to reach it, just my arm.

Found out the other day you can completely remove the back seats by unlodging them, believe it or not you can fit 4 people and 3 huge luggage's into a polo :D

For track days remove the seats all together, only problem is you hear a heap of little rattles you never use to hear before.

Yep, and the weight that you can ditch removing the back rests is HUGE.
With those out and also the spare wheel removed, my Polo sits about an inch higher at the rear.

But it's too noisy for me for normal usage

Taking the back seats out, it felt like the car had a extra 20Kw

Amazing the difference it made, but agree it is too loud

For track days, the extinguisher needs to be within reach.

Generally, they accept the extinguisher by the centre console or down by the front passenger seat. It also has to be very secure otherwise the scruitineer won't accept you on the track.

Trust me, it won't move one bit ;) that's why I utilized all three bolt points for extra security.
As for removing the back seats completely, I'm not that interested in getting the fastest time or whatever, just out to have a bit of fun.

If I want to start chasing seconds I'll consider getting rid of them then look at the same spot Greg's is in if I can make it work :)

Other great thing with the back seats out is the lift off oversteer!

Definitely too noisy thiugh for day to day. It's like having the windows down haha.

hazrd is tall enough to reach the extinguisher if he were to mount it in the boot!

As for the lift off oversteer, lightening the rear definitely helps with that although as well as helping point the car, this can also make the car unstable under brakes (I could go on to contaminate this thread with yet another plea for info about braking stability, SEAT bushes and static/dynamic toe out)

I noticed without the back seats you can hear everything in the rear tire well, the back seats are the noise dampers for the whole rear of the car..

Would be a good dynamat test to see how much improvement you get from the stuff.

I've tried lining the wheel well etc with carpet underlay and the difference was minimal. I notice extra noise even with just the rear shelf removed.

carpet unerlay is not a noise barrier.

Have a read on noise treatments, some absorb, some block. I used something like dynamat, but cheaper and a 6mm medium density closed cell foam, as a barrier. Made a big difference. Used it on the passenger side floor, in front of the doors, cover where the cables for the doors pass through, the hole behind the side mirror. I used the dynamat like stuff to add mass to large resonating panels and blocking cable access holes, etc.

Over all, made a huge difference, but I think to get a reasonable result, you've got to be willing to spend atleast a day and spend atleast $100 and well upwards to get it done well. I added about 6kg to my car, happy with the results, even the stock speakers in the doors sound better.

It works fine for some frequencies but obviously not the ones in cars (and I'm using the heavy duty industrial stuff, not the cheap, çrappy eggshell $hit that they supply for free with your carpet install).

I have a friend who builds speakers as a business and he uses the same carpet underlay (amongst other materials) to dampen internal reflections in his cabinets.

BTW If you use a subwoofer and and head unit/amp that allows bass redirection, you don't need to line your doors. Nobody can understand the sound quality in my car after I tell them that the drivers are stock but the bass has been removed from them.
