Ill make a start here, im in the middle of a conversion when i have a free slot ( which isnt often at the moment:rolleyes:) anyway so far i will consult the owner to get approval to post all details, brings back memories and reminds me of all the tricks, best one is you dont have to waste time changing a pedal cluster, stoked i remembered that!!!!.
Anyway stay tuned with approval there will be info and pics to come, but im sure there wont be many VR6 Ventos around over here! ( Cops loved them in the UK)
Cheers

Agreed mate. Couple other goodies are bonnet landing panel / headlamp panel swaps over to keep Radiator and Condensor VR which is a bonus, fusebox is a joy being the same so plug in, couple extras but no issue. No comms with the ECU but sure its only one of the above fusebox bridge wires so no probs. It has a long way to go and like a i say only get a chance to do it once every 1 to 2 weeks but give it a nudge when i do . Should be pretty rad when finished
ill try and muster up some pics now
Cheers

I know a little bit about this one. It's my old car that is the donor VR6. I'm also very interested in watching this and also seeing the end result.

I will be watching this closely.
The Jetta VR6 was very popular in South Africa when I lived there, and the Jetta 3 GLX VR6 was very much loved in America when I lived there.
I owned 2 Jetta 3 s,and they were actually a superb car.
Good looking, very reliable, great interiors, and best in class boot.

Replaced by the far more stylish Bora.

Site of a VR6 out of a bay brings back all my horrid memories!

Is it really basically bolt and plug in? That's amazing!
One thing VW did right. :)

Not quite , but a few things do.This car was an Auto and will be a manual when finished so you have to change the shifter, and change the brake pedal from the large one in the auto to the standard one, fit a clutch pedal and larger pedal cluster rod. Ill compile a list of changes as the show goes on. Might take a bit as this is getting done in between jobs.

Technology has let me down badly, my last phone had the 1st piccies and they are gone, ah well, we all know what a Vr looks like in a Golf3 and a 2.0L in a Vento. Ok next pics have the engines out and pics are a bit onthe rough side but the conversion is in mid flight.

Was a Manual Vr6 Golf3

Was a 2.0ltr Auto Vento

Sorry about this pic but it has the Golf 3 Subframe, Driveshafts, Black forest mounts, and i have put the full VR6 loom in the bay at this stage sorry for the poor pics.
http://www.vwwatercooled.com.au/forums/images/imported/2010/08/vento7-1.jpg
Engine is sat in its place and all the loom in the engine bay hooked up minus what goes on at the front, New Crack pipe, thermo housing etc but waiting for seals so still has to be finished. As before mentioned i fitted the long rod for the pedal cluster, removed the big pedal and the cluster now has 3 normal sized pedals, new bushes and pedal retaining clips. Master cylinder, servo and clutch master cyl also now in place before the engine was fitted for obvious reasons.

Again sorry about the pic but glad i got some, will try harder when i see the project next. Here the Vento dash is out to gain access to the pedal box, fusebox etc and soon the VR dash will be in there, take note there is a gearstick in there now!!!
Cheers for now

Jimmy. Just as a matter of interest. Will the spring rate of the VR6 rear suspension be ok for the heavier rear end of the Vento or will the springs need to be changed? And maybe I am jumping the gun with this question but will you be changing the rear beam axle?

No need to worry mate the Golf has K springs as does the VR6 Vento so all good. I am changing the beam for the obvious 4 stud to 5. So that covers that but yeah you are right normal Vento set up wouldnt cut it

Thanks. I wasn't worried I was just interested. I assume the Konis and lowered springs that I bought when I had the VR are still on it.

Im sure you werent worried , only as part of my speech mate, So many issues found with the Koni installs its not funny mate, its a shocker, brake hoses rubbing etc and loose nuts and bolts, dont know if it had been looked at after the install but im only saying it as i see it, not good the list goes on, anyway itll be tight where its going.

Interesting. It was all kosher when I had it. Graeme and I bought the kits together when we both had VR's. I think there have been 3 owners since I had it. As I recall it had around 180,000k's on it when I sold it.

Nice to see this vento bound for greatness, when I saw it first it was in some tall-ish grass on someones front lawn and they didn't know it was rare :-)

Great project! When I changed my CL to disk rear end, I used a vr6 rear beam (because it has a built in stiffener, and the one in my CL didnt). But had it not been for that, I would simply have swapped over the stub axles. Apart from that stiffening rod, I couldnt see any difference.... just incase the Vento one has that stiffener.

Yeah I reckon the Vento rear beam is the same width and swaybar spec as VR6 Jimmy. You could just swop the disks and be done ;)

Nice to see a Vento VR6 conversion hapenning mate. Real sleeper thats for sure.

Keep at it :)

Yeah im sure thats correct after checking the specs, ill swap over the stubs too. Yeah it would have been finished if it wasnt for backlog and unexpected hospital visit , ah well. Should be fun when all done. Ill get a spot in my diary soon i hope.

Spring rate is different. Had the konis on the back with the eibachs out of the golf and it sat riiiiight down at the back, has coilovers now. Alex had the same issue with the heavier back end of his cabby. So the front shocks and springs you bought are on that red colourconcept behind the vento, the back springs on the cab and back struts were damaged after a mate raged a bit much with a rattle gun.

Just for some closure, this car is finished, running, RWCed, insured and registered. Safely, legally, and let's hope reliably.
