Interested in any one having done conversions on mk1 golf with 1.8 turbo and 2.0L engines. Need to know as much info as possible, what donor car did u use to supply engine and accessories, why? What problems? etc.
After adding more horses then what did u do about stopping?
Look forward to replys.

I have built 1800 16V and 2 litre 8V mk1s. The 16V had a mk2 16V motor fitted into an 1800 GTI. The 2 litre started out as an 1800 GTI again and I stuck a mk3 2litre bottom end in it as this will work with the 1800 head if you use a 2 litre headgasket.
Assuming that you are starting with an injected 1800 things are simpler. With a 1600 or carby car it's a bit more work.
The 2litre needs to use the 1800 dissy if you are going to run the Kjet injection from the 1800. If you do this you have to make a spacer for the 1800 dissy to fit in the 2 litre block. You also have to swap the drive cog from the 2 litre dissy onto the 1800 one.

You could of course just drop the 2 litre complete with injection instead.

Currently am using warmed over 1600,injected gti head, big cam, twin webers etc. but in todays climate of high hp engines i feel i will fit a late 2.0 litre stinker on injection or 1.8 turbo. Will consider buying 1/2 cut or wreck as donor but need to research as to which one i will fit, and what areas of motor sport i will use it to compete in. The mods are relative to what categories i can race in. Still learning all the guff associated with this

Hey Pete, best to look on www.vwvortex.com forums and have a bit of a read as they have everything coverd at least twice. I have a MK3 2L 8v in my MK1 but am in the middle of a 2L 16v transplant from a 1992 Pasat. Should go ok when finished, and if not I will bolt on some wind and see how that goes.

there are many mods but must be found there was a recent one on a brakes conversion very cheap and easy with magna discs and vp commodore calipers.

hey pete i have experimented building a low comp 2lt 16vusing a 9a 2lt 8v audi bubble block with with oversized 16v pistons, kr 16v head, had to change many things which were gathered from the 9a 2l 8v and a kr 1.8 16v and a 2l 16v all other internals were stock but you dont need to buy compleate engines to build 1 killer, most parts are interchangable just need to hunt down the correct individual stuff, just decide what size block you want and biuld from that ask around for what parts fits with what, my motor was tuned at 128 bhp, and was twice as tourqy as a kr, but with plans for a turbo would push it up to 300bhp but i didnt get that far as i shot a valve in to a piston hahahhaha expensive lesson, but i am currently having another go at building the same engine with some knowledege under me belt this time!! if you didnt want to muck around with all the crap take williams advice on the 2lt16v and plonk that in,
man i just types more words than i did in school sorry dudes..

No point beating around the bush - how much money do you have to spend? :D
