Has anyone noticed that the speedo reads in 10km/h increments (0,10,20..) until it hits 80, them jumps up 20 at a time (80,100,120). Had me mighty confused for a while as to why I was always so far over 100km/h...other than the heavy foot of course.

I just stick to keeping the needle on the numbers :)

umm but when the speedo reads 100kmh your really doing 94kmh so do the numbers just change or does the needle not work on a linier scale.

I'd say there's probably a potentiometer behind the speedo - the speedo needle would be seriously out of whack come 140km/h otherwise.

Does the polo speedo look similar to the a3 where you don't know where the hell 90km/h is??

Just on the topic of speedo markings - is there any known reason why the markings for 30km/h and 50km/h are marked in red rather than white?

I dont know of any 90kph speed limit so it shouldnt really be an issue, for 110kph just keep it in the middle of 100-120kph, its not rocket science. My Fiesta had 10,30,50,70,90,110,130, now that was definately a bit harder to keep track of, but you get used to it...

I think the red markings are indicators for gear changes... 1st to 2nd, 2nd to 3rd etc..
I used them for changing gears when relaxing... quite good.

ahh but 120 is about right for 'real speed' :)

this is what a lot of people use them for but my pug had them on like 20 and 90, so i dont think that'd be for changing gears, so i dunno

 I had assumed it was to do with the default speed limits (maybe in other states / countries?)
In Qld, all suburban streets have a default speed limit of 50km/h unless signed otherwise. The red 50 makes it stand out at a quick glance.
i assume that in other markets, 30 and 50 represent similar default / common speed limits - and it may also work with those still in Mph?
