Final got around to posting a few pics of my MkV and recent addition MkI

I love the 2TDi - awesome performance, and great fuel economy - best of both worlds.

I recently got this manky little MkI that will receive a great deal of attention in the future - big plans for this little beastie. But currently runs all the standard stuff.
Will be looking to you guys for ideas and inspiration

WOW those 2 Golfs are great :D
Now I'm a little sad you want to mod the Mk1 :( please don't do hideous spoilers or anything like that ;)

Thanks guys :D
Don't worry Phaeton, the only rice I have is in a meal j:
I really like the idea of a 'sleeper' - bucket loads of performance in a car that looks ordinary. Not sure if the MkI will get a full repaint or not. I kind of like the way it looks at the moment, stripes and all :)
But no rush, it is a work in progress...
As I mentioned, I am very receptive to any suggestions and ideas that you guys have about mods that can be done (as this is my first ever watercooled petrol VW :o )

It's been a while, but I finally got a TS Passat inlet manifold and a 32/36 dual throat webber on the Mk1.
http://www.vwwatercooled.com.au/forums/images/imported/2007/09/20070923SSL20444resize500-4.jpg
Wow! What a difference! Not so much the gain in horses, but in smoothness of engine operation - especially at high reves (she doesn't feel so strangled anymore).
She goes in to get re-jetted tomorrow (as the webber is currently running the original jets from the donor 2L cortina), and I am expecting better results performance wise.
Even as she runs now - well worth the change. Will let you know how it goes tomorrow (although I suspect that a fair few of you already know :D)
Cheers,
JP

Hi Steve,
Yup, that 54 Hp or 40 kW is at the wheels and is pretty poor compared to todays vehicles. But in a 800-ish kilo car, it is still a lot of fun in traffic :D
Especially considering that the original engine is still standard (except for the webber). I've heard that a 'G-grind' cam from an early GTI will give it more pep, but these are rare (so I believe)...
I wish the 'racing stripes' gave me another 20-or-so kW j:
Cheers,
JP

No, they give you an extra 20 kudos! j:
Nice - that was a good little chuckle. Really shows you how far technology has come.

No, not yet - the stud pattern in the wheel is 4x108, and not the 4x100 I was expecting
I really want the cheviot hotwires on as they are old school cool, and f a t - 13x7 (the guards will need pumping or flaring to fit the wheels in, and I can go some stretch too)
Not really sure what to do with the wheels now, either get them redrilled, or get new disks and drums redrilled to suit (and have no spare tyre) :???:
Anyway, I don't have to make the decision right now...

As mentioned before, I have managed to get my hands on a set of old school 13x6 BBS rims for the manky little Mk1 :D
http://www.vwwatercooled.com.au/forums/images/imported/2007/12/20071207SV300005resize600-1.jpg
http://www.vwwatercooled.com.au/forums/images/imported/2007/12/20071207SV300006resize600-2.jpg
Now I just have to lower the little beastie before I put them on (to do them justice - standard ride height is ok for standard wheels, but not for these).
At the moment, they are wearing 205/60-13 which fill out the guards nicely (nice and fat - but not sure if this is good for handling).
Can't wait to get them on permanently :D

j: Probably at least as old as the car j:
I will give them a full going over when I am close to repainting the whole car. Trying to go for the '70s look where the little Mk1 will remain as true to the era as possible
Would white walls look ridiculous on the BBS? Still haven't made up my mind yet...

imo they would look bad. Maybe maybe maybe a white strip on them wheels with the balc centres and polished lips. But still no.
sorry, white walls on mk 1's is prolly my least fav mk 1 mod. sorry, but just my opinion.

I couldn't help myself any longer and put these puppies on.
I was going to wait until I had the lowered springs put in, but meh...

Good question, if anyone out there can tell me exactly what are - that would be greatly appreciated!

Another BBS that looks very similar is the BBS RA, so I'm guessing that they are from the same era?
Eventually, they will be fully restored with the charcoal mesh and polished lips - sweet. Big thanks to Pete for passing them on to me :D
