Don't have a clue but its the 1st Dub to gain a Mthly Market Leadership in a segment for a long time.

It was market Leader in MPVs above 55K ;)

Gee, doesn't look like the Polo's really pulling it's weight against the cheaper competition (notably Yaris and probably Jazz) - I'm actually surprised they're shifting so few of the little VWs.

They're shifting as many New Beetles (Cabrio + Normal) as Polos for gods sake!

Yeah I found that odd to seeing as GTI is hot seller and TDI won Best Small Car award.

Fiat sold 120+ Grande Puntos on the other hand :(

We're just replacing a Jazz (wife's commuter car) with a VW, and would go straight for the Polo TDI except that there is no auto offered. So it's a Golf for us! There may be a few polo sales missed because of that hole in the range.

^^VGA have admitted that to be a flaw, seeing as though factory does not produce auto TDIs in that variant VGA have no choice :(

Volkswagen and Audi are both kicking butt in terms of sales growth on the Australian market.

April 2007 Sales:

Audi - 603 units
Volkswagen - 2,041 units

Y.T.D = Year To Date: Volkswagen sales are up 49.4% and Audi sales are up 41.1% so far for 2007.

Whats interesting, is that there is only two other car makers that are outperforming Audi and Volkswagen in sales growth for the first 4 months of 2007, one is Proton, who's sales are up 59.8% and the other is Fiat, who's sales are up 123.6%!!

Heres what Audi sold for April 2007:

A3 - 132
A4 - 193
A6 - 37
A8 - 7
TT - 96
A4 Convertible - 19
Allroad - 9
Q7 - 110

Total - 603

good to see some figures here, mate ! The surely don't like the Polo here very much, that's for sure ! I wonder why that is ... I am also wondering if the Jetta is not "stealing" the Golf's position in the market.

Do these figures include vans and utes? If so, Fiat seem to be getting a few of their vans out there and what about the Proton "Jumpbuck"?

Also, we have to be careful to distiquish between sales growth and market share. For example, a manufacturer who sold 200 vehicles last year and 1000 this year shows a 500% growth while it may only have 0.01% growth in market share. (Just made these numbers up guys....don't quote me ;) )

It's definitely market growth and not market share that we're talking about here and the total figures do include Ute and Van sales.

Fiat's sales are usually evenly split between the Punto and the Ducato Van. Fiat is now selling around 140 units a month, small I know, but things are only starting to get better for them, with the release of the new Ritmo - Golf sized car, in the next 6 months.

"Ritmo" is what the new Fiat Bravo will be called in Australia.

Proton sold only 54 Jumbuck Utes, but last month sold more car's than what Renault did!!

It looks like VW has had much success with the Jetta since its Australian launch.
This mirrors other countries where the Jetta actually outsells the Golf.
I have just bought my 4 th Jetta...a 2.0 FSI IN Oz.
I owned a 1993 in America
I owned a 1988 and 1995 in South Africa.
It is a superb product.
Bring the new wagon in as a Jetta Sports Wagon.
540000 new Jettas sold world wide in 2006.
2007 should be better.

Please keep the detailed monthly statistics coming.
It is a pleasure to see all the core models in the line up selling so well. You just need to look on the roads to see plenty of new Golfs GTIs Jettas and Passats.
May VW go from strength to strength.

Be interested to see if available the breakdown in Golf model variants (ie: GTI-R32-TDI.. etc etc) Anyone know if there's figures available for that or is it not complied until years end? Side note: in year ending Oct '07 Australian car sales broke the magic million mark for first time in history, be interesting to see if this trend holds for '07 calendar year.

Pretty sure Australians bought over 1 million cars in 2006.

As for individual model sales (GTI, R32 etc) I can't get that information. You'd need to source that directly from Volkswagen if possible.

Cheers Liam

I did say year to Oct '07!!! And have to see if holds trend for calendar year '07!!! ;) Everyone was sure that 2006 would break the magic million mark because of the strong 2005 result but that never eventuated. But it would be good to see it make the predicted 1,050,000 units sold as this will mean that manufacturers around the world will take more interest in the australian market and see more opportunities for further model diversity in the future, breaks that pyschological barrier of ONE MILLION SOLD!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am waiting anxiously to see Volkswagens sales figures for December so we can see how our companys products did over the year.
Am sure most of the core models improved over 2006.
Jetta and Passat had its first full year on the market in 2007.

Hi Anthony :)

Monday is the big day ;)

FCAI delayed from Friday just to tease all of us.

Apparently 2007 will be known as the 1st year of sales Australia wide breaching the 1 Million units a year mark :o

Will have all VW Figures up by Monday night at the latest stay tuned :)

Thanks Ben
Cant wait.
My Reflex Silver Jetta 2.0 FSI Tiptronic will be one of those cars.
I have just seen that VW in Canada had a great year
VW USA held its own.
They are both anxious for the new Jetta Sports wagon and TDI s.
And Mexico produced its second best figures ever.
VW are on a roll world wide.
And things should keep on improving in 2008.

VFACTS INDUSTRY SUMMARY - DECEMBER 2007

The Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries issues the following summary for the retail sales performance of the automotive industry for December 2007.

Key Points:

The new vehicle market volume for full year 2007 reached 1,049,982 vehicle sales, an increase of 87,316 or 9.1% on 2006. This established a new record mark for the Australian automotive market and is the first time that a million sales have been exceeded in a calendar year. The previous record of 988,269 was set in 2005.
The December 2007 industry volume of 86,250 is also a record and is up 9,187 or 11.9% on December 2006 (77,063 vehicles). December 2007 (24 days) had the same number of selling days as December 2006, resulting in an increase of 382.8 vehicles per day.
The December 2007 industry volume is down 5,831 or 6.3% on November 2007 (92,081 vehicles). However in seasonally adjusted terms the December monthly volume equates to a 1.4% increase versus November.
The Passenger Vehicle Market increased by 3,374 vehicle sales (7.0%) over the same month last year; the Sports Utility Vehicle Market, increased by 2,856 vehicle sales (20.0%); the Light Truck Market, increased by 2,344 vehicle sales (20.2%) and the Heavy Commercial Vehicle Market increased by 613 vehicle sales (21.4%) over December 2006.

Volkswagen's sales for 2007 were 27,400 -- up 5,829 from 2006 sales.

I'm too lazy to post the model breakdowns right now, but if Ben doesn't get to it later today I'll see what I can do.
