As the title say, I'm back to VW family

Now with a White Mk2 GTI

Several pic first, car is generally clean, with few subtle mod -> single wiper, smoke light, 16" wheel.

What's the plan ........ hmmmm.
Engine will be the first. it's a bit tired.
then slam it obviously
wheel is not top of my taste, but I'll just leave it as is until I find something I really like

Not much special in term of appearance, all works done so far are mechanical (by matt & julian). I should have some more updates in a few weeks :)

It is 4x100, has been redrilled to 4x114.3, I can only see RS 0 the next 2 digits have been drilled out. I guess it is RS001

needs to be lower :emo_baghead:

I knew you and Jarred is going to say that :)

For practical reason and don't want to attach cop attention, I don't want crazy low.
I did purposely wind UP the coil over .

You could drop it a little haha. mine is about 25mm lower than that and I dont scrape... much:P

Haha, fair enough mate, we like 'em low :D

Mine doesn't get any cop attention at it's current height. Probably because it's a small car (compared to all the falcons/commodores) so cops don't really notice. NSW cops might be a bit more vigilant than there QLD counterparts (not many QLD cops on the roads anyway, mainly hiding like cowards in unmarked vans, but that's another issue).

Anyway great looking MK2, RS's suit it perfectly.

It is 3 pieces, not sure what exactly RS0xx though, cos it has been redrilled. I can only see RS0, the last 2 digits have been drilled through.

Ah ok, if they're 15x7 and ET25 offset they'll be RS001's provided the lips haven't been changed at some point. Oh and the centre cap is the threaded screw on type.

Cops shouldn't pay too much attn to lows, as long as the car isn't crazy loud and you dont drive like an arse!

Cheers

Unlike Ryan, I'm a bit lazy to update my car, eventually got bore on the weekend so just took some photos :)

Good bye BBS RS, welcome Aluline
I'm sick of cleaning BBS RS, also want something different, there are too many BBS RS so they are not so special IMO :P
Thank you to Lewis to sell me this cool Aluline turbine, they aren't particular light wheel, but god it's so cool. Just a test fit pic

Mk4 style keyfob install

I'm sick of the 15 years old alarm keep playing up so and the remote central locking only works intermittently, so I bought this cheap keyless entry kit Remote Central Locking Kit VW GOLF mk4 mk5 POLO HAA key | eBay (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Remote-Central-Locking-Kit-VW-GOLF-mk4-mk5-POLO-HAA-key-/150656969900?pt=UK_Car_Accessories_Safety_Security&hash=item2313daecac#ht_3902wt_1087). I like the Mk4 style keyfob

I don't really need alarm anyway so first to remove all these junk

I imported coilover from Awesome GTI in UK, great service, great price. You can also get same coil from Lorenz SLAMMEDdistribution (http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/forums/f183/).

About BBS, if you are willing to pay reasonably good price, they do come up quite often locally, they are really not that rare.

would love to see pic of your white mk2 :)

It has been raining raining in Sydney, eventually sunshine came up yesterday so I wash my Mk2 and told some latest photo.

She has another shoe recently after I sold my E30 and kept the Borbet A, after having 4 set of different wheels I found this is perfect, classic look, easy to clean. Some pic

Since the Mk2 has been trouble free and I spent zero dollar in 2013 apart from usual maintenance, I just spoiled myself with a Easter present, a ultra rare Formuling France Steering Wheel. Formuling France developed steering wheels for the Aircooled VW scene back in the early 70's and for a very brief time made Watercooled Adapters in order to use their wheels on Watercooled VW's.
You think Wolfsbury steering wheel is rare ? it is, but it still turn up in ebay quite often.
Once I spotted this one I just can't help to collect more steering wheel LOL :), it's not cheap though.
It's 13" diameter same as my current OBA wheel which give a more sporty feel compare to standard Mk1/2 steering wheel.

BTW, if anyone want nice S/W for their Mk1/2, I still have a few for sale. http://www.vwwatercooled.com.au/forums/f24/mk1-mk2-steering-wheel-galore-58736.html?highlight=steering+wheel

Ryan,

I think I measured and found that there isn't enough space for 3 52mm gauge's to fit side by side. But I'd like to be proven wrong :)

http://www.vwwatercooled.com.au/forums/f46/ryans-mk2-gti-45561-8.html

I was trying to prove you're wrong -> golf-center-console | Turbocharged 16 valves (http://golfturbo.wordpress.com/foto/golf-center-console/)

but eventually perfer to have guages in ash tray location.

ryana89
15-05-2014, 05:39 PM
So I guess 3 across fit quite nicely (nice interior/setup in that car too might I add)
I would happily use the ash tray, buuuut it holds all the screw/bolts/pieces that fall from my car ;)

I'd like too see your set-up (entire car) at nationals.

Put it back now :) still haven't connect the oil pressure sensor and wire though.
I'm a bit disappointed with the temp gauge illumination, also has similiar issue that Ryan had, voltmeter only shows 12.x volt. Probably need to pull it out again and run a wire directly from battery to accurately monitor alternator output.

Air cond is still there, I haven't decided to delete it yet.

I think I made a wrong decision to get the lowest temperature thermostat (72 degree), now water temp sitting at 50 degree mark in curising, oil temp hardly get up to 70 degree, I think they are not good for fuel consumption. What thermostat do other people using here ?

I have another issue, the lower cambelt cover is worn out badly, it kind of touch something (could be the cambelt) that cause some scaring noise. Now I need to get a new cover, need to undo all belts and refit again :(
