I've seen a couple of 5 doors advertised on carsales.com and they were both $7500. All the officialy imported cars here are 5door 90hp 8v's.

Here's one....... Clicky (http://www.carsales.com.au/used-cars/private/VOLKSWAGEN/GOLF/details.aspx?__Ns=pCar_PrivateSpecialFlag_Int32|1| |pCar_ImageCount_Int32|1||pCar_LastModifiedDate_Da teTime|1&Make=VOLKSWAGEN&__Nne=20&State=All%20States&R=374478&state_id=0&__N=4294962746+0+4294962677+834+285+257&distance=25&__Dx=mode+matchany&trecs=39&Model=GOLF&__sid=111ACF0B7F87&__Ntk=CarAll&silo=1003&keywords=gti&Cr=15&__D=gti&seot=0&__Ntt=gti&__Ntx=mode+matchallpartial)

I'm in the same situation (came over from the UK last year) and decided to look for a UK car to import. Although it's going to be expensive there's more choice that way and easier to find what you want.

I'm kicking myself for selling my MK2 instead if bringing it with me. If I knew there were so few over here I wouldn't have done that :(

You need to get one from the UK. If its pre 88 you can bring it without restriction. No tax
There are a few threads on here about it, use the search feature.

I did bring mine and wouldn't bother doing it again. Buy a mk2 16v over here rather than bring one. Got to be cheaper. Sure it may take awhile but it will take ten weeks to ship one. Then you have to wait another six weeks before they can inspect the car so you can register it. That's my opinion anyway.

You should have brought it wth you, Ian! Simple process if you've owned it for >1year. I love Mk2s and after seeing Benny's, my first, on the Tamar cruise it's now my ambition to get a 1.6 turbo diesel perhaps from NZ.

Welcome Ian :D

I don't know about WA sites but try www.carsales.com.au, Trading Post and WA's local paper.

Good Luck http://www.vwwatercooled.com.au/forums/images/imported/2007/02/icon14gif-1.jpg

Hi

I also moved from the UK to Perth around 18months ago, I looked around for 12 months until I found a mk2 Golf GTI, I eventully found what I was after a small bumper 3 door 8v GTI (imported from the uk in the 90's).
I have only seen three others for sale in Perth and they were all 5 door big bumper models and one was an automatic!!,
I also brought my 16v Audi with me from the UK, it cost £1600 and 8 weeks to ship, was only held by customs for one week but had to pay around $2000(£800) customs fees/steam cleaning charges etc etc, all up around $6000
I paid $5000 for the Golf so shipping yours from the UK shouldnt work out to be much more expensive than buying one here.

Hope this helps/gives you some ideas

Ian
