How long is a piece of string ????? :)
If you are talking about a factory 1.8 turbo they are pretty much bullet proof.
One thats built up well that depends on a lot of things.
Done properly no problems .
Big horsepower through front drive is a bit scary.
200 hp in a nicely set up car is all you need in reality unless you are going for bragging rights, any more is a waste. :D

factory 1.8 turbo mk1 :?:

they made em?

on the latest fifth gear, they say 220 bhp is the max limit for fwd... more is to much torque steer....

Yeah, thought so... Not a fan of the mk4 gti's.

Would be a hell of a lot easier if I bought one already turboed.. even if it needed a little work

To get some idea of what is involved in making a turbo golf (not cheap but US guys doing em all the time) try the link below. I found the search option is better than other forums too.

Well done bin thats what i should have done.
Its hard to explain sometimes.
I still think by the time all the aftermarket stuff is added up its still the best option to use VWs factory 1.8t motor and you dion't have to like mk4s just use their engine.
Our learned new member should reseach 1.8t motors as they come in Audis,Passats.TTs,Seats Skodas,Golfs etc etc. :)

Cheers for the link, has some great info

Turbo VR6  ...... that would be sweet

Hey, you know how the VR6 has traction control that you cant turn off... would it be possible to connect a computer like a wolf 3d, power fc etc... to remove that function..... from driving my old VR6 (which I dont own anymore) It was a real pain when launching hard... I found it is more of a burden than good

Check out TassieGTi's VR6.
No traction control accellerates like a bullet. 8)
