Are you serious??? THere is over 20 threads in this forum on wheels.... when I have some time, I might merge them all and then sticky it. It'll probably be over 100 pages long already though....

This isnt my car, but i have a red gti as well and i will be getting wheels similar to them. I really like the black rims with the red stripes. It really matches with the car and i reckon it looks awesome. . .

Im trying to look for some sporty (light) wheels kind of like them. I'm not sure if i should buy bbs wheels though because im not sure if they would add alot of weight to the car or not. Please tell me what you guys think and give me some advice in brands would be best to buy black rims like them.
thankyou

Yeah, but they are regarding individuals conceptions of what wheels look good on their/wives/pertners/gf/bf/husbands Golf. Not a thread that has their wheels on their Golfs. I got bored of reading the "Will these XYZ look good on my car?" I want to see what people have actually put on their cars. :emo_baghead:

Did that make sense or is it my late night insomniacal brain not functioning again???

Jesus - take it easy... he's just trying to start a thread.

Why start a new thread when you can just do a search in 5 seconds? Every major VW Golf forum including vwvortex and golfmk6.com has a specific forum dedicated to nothing but wheels / tyres. Also, its the moderator's responsibility to clean up / merge similar threads, why add to their workload needlessly?

Sometimes one has to really question the purpose of half these threads, I won't go into specifics but I think we should all exercise some commonsense when it comes to these things.

adzy

He is specifically requesting "pictures" of MKVI Golf's with new rims. Yes there are heaps of threads regarding wheels. Can someone direct the thread started to a thread which is the exact same topic?

Thats all that needs to be done next time, just re-direct the dood to the exact same thread which already exists. Just my opinion... and being a mod would get frustrating I might add:mad:

Thanks Adzy.

@Dracz: I know there are threads on wheels, but searching for wheels in the MK6 forum resulted in threads on whether the detroits etc would look good on my Golf. Actual pictures of different wheels, not photochops etc. I'm looking for the likes of BBS, Enkei, Rays etc.. Different wheels on the Mk6. Not the same wheels on the same car.

EG: I have yet to find a pic of AMG wheels on the NK6 or RS4's. Correction, found one on Vortex.

I just wanted a sticky, if you will, of different wheels, not "I just bought my Golf in Baby Poo Brown, what do you think?"

Standard S3 sized tyre ... no idea what the offset was. He sold them and refitted the original wheels.

Corey_R
16-01-2011, 01:16 PM
235/40R18 is the best fit for what you need.

GTI Stock 17" = 225/45R17
Actual Speed: 60 mph 100 km/h
Speedometer Difference: -

GTI Stock 18" = 225/40R18
Speed: 59.7 mph 99.5 km/h
Speedometer Difference: 0.434% too slow

GTI 235 width = 235/40R18
Speedometer1: 58.9 mph 98.3 km/h
Speedometer Difference: 1.722% too slow

GTI 235 width alternative = 235/35R18
Speedometer1: 61.2 mph 102. km/h
Speedometer Difference: 2.053% too fast

Tim
16-01-2011, 01:36 PM
ET44 is an aggressive offset so a 235 might end up rubbing on the guards a little bit. 225 is generally the width most people go with although you would have to check the manufacturers specs to see if its legal to run them on an 8.5" wide rim. The slightly stretched sidewall profile will aid clearance though.

ozgti
16-01-2011, 05:18 PM
So 225 35 18 is a bit too small then?

This. Go the 225's if you are someone that cringes at the sound of a bit of rubbing, unless you are running cheap rubber and don't care.

Tim
16-01-2011, 06:24 PM
So 225 35 18 is a bit too small then?

yeah. 225/40/18 is the correct size and thats what you get if you order a vw with 18" wheels

ozgti
16-01-2011, 10:22 PM
What's the standard width on the 18's? I had 18x8 with the 225 40 and I don't really like teh stretch sidewall look.

Tim
16-01-2011, 10:36 PM
different brands of tyres will mount differently so there is no definative answer. Some wont look stretched at all whilst other brands of tyre tend to look quite narrow. At the end of the day I dont think a 225 on an 8.5" rim is a massively stretched fitment. A slightly angled sidewall is ideal when there is a possibility of clearance issues though.

Just having a bit of a read most manufacturers rate their 225/40s to fit on up to a 9" rim so legality wise its fine.

ozgti
16-01-2011, 10:54 PM
what about a 225 35?

Corey_R
17-01-2011, 08:02 AM
what about a 225 35?

It's more than 3% out of spec... Many places don't recommend that.

GTI Stock 17" = 225/45R17
Actual Speed: 60 mph 100 km/h
Speedometer Difference: -

225/35R18
Speed: 61.9 mph 103. km/h
Speedometer Difference: 3.193% too fast

ozgti
18-01-2011, 11:01 PM
yeah. 225/40/18 is the correct size and thats what you get if you order a vw with 18" wheels

Even on an 8.5" width?

Corey_R
19-01-2011, 07:30 AM
We seem to be going in circles.

225/40R18 is the correct size to stay within spec of the original tyres/wheels. But the VW 18" wheels are only 7.5" wide. Having said that, 225 is the MAXIMUM that you can put on a 7.5" wide rim (without going out of spec of most tyre manufacturers specs), so putting a 225 on a 8.5" rim is fine for most tyres (again, check the specs of the tyre you pick)

As I mentioned originally, you could also put a 235/40R18 (which is the "optimal" for 8.5" rims with most tyres), but your speedo will be 1.3% further out. And as Tim mentioned, with the offset that you're selecting, you'd be even more likely to rub.

ozgti

Thanks Corey,

But I hardly think it's going around in circles. Just trying to clarify things.

Elisix,

awesome wheels! hows the ride compare to the detroits??

elisiX
15-03-2011, 10:07 AM
So much better - really! :)

The wheels are wider ( 8.5 vs 7.5/8 ) and the track is wider (due to offset) so the car feels much more compliant and steady on the road.

Pretty amazing difference really - and I dont think the increase to 19" has make the ride any harder at all.

Vaku
15-03-2011, 12:28 PM
you have to be happy with that! I just naturally assumed the ride would be harsher

I guess they would be lighter than the detroits also? that might be the reason why.

elisiX
15-03-2011, 12:55 PM
I dont remember the difference exactly, but I think it was like 7/8KG for the GT7's and 15KG+ for the 18" Detroits.

hey guys, looking for some advice :)

i'm seriously considering on placing an order on the Hartmann HROC-233 wheels (http://hartmannwheels.com/wheels/hartmann-hroc-233-replica-wheels-for-volkswagen-fitment) (another link (http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?4985192-ACHTUN!NG-New-Hartmann-Wheel-19-quot-Hartmann-HROC-233-Wheels)) for my soon to arrive GTi. Wheel specs are 19x8.5 with a +47 offset. Hartman claim its a perfect fit for the MK6 GTi (wheel designed for vw/audi).

my GTi will arrive sometime in August so i've still got some time on my hands. my main question is what impact (+/-) will the jump to 19" wheels have over the Detroit 18's. i wouldn't be happy with significant additional pressure being placed on the car due to the larger rolling diameter and possibly a heavier wheel. i haven't been able to find the mass of the wheels, i'm hoping someone could give me a rough guide.. would they be lighter/heavier than the Detroits (including tyres for both wheels).

i think if the Hartmann wheel mass is on par or preferably lighter than the Detroits than i will most definitely make an order. final note - i most likely wont touch the suspension for a while, would it sit too high on stock lol?

what are your opinions? i think they look stunning on the VW's. any advice would be much appreciated :)

heres a shot of what it would look like on my car, will have the R tails too, only imagine the GTi in black :P

I've been in touch with the Hartmann guys from the US and they do not ship the wheels to AU. I've also spoken to my local contacts and they told me that no-one imports Hartmann wheels to AU! :(

After having some quick quotes drawn up for shipping the wheels in privatelly ($500-$700).. I am heartbroken to say the least. Will most definatelly not be ordering them now as shipping them in is just too pricey.. Was looking to put that money towards a good set of tyres.

Can anyone here reccomend me a similar wheel to the above Hartmann that can be sourced locally?

On another note.. I am sick of Australia being so limited with options.. *sigh*

Man that really sucks! Wheels in Aus also cost an arm and a leg!

A set of BBS CH-Rs that I was after only costs USD$2,400, but would be around $3,600 here!

Tunershop - Wheels - 18 inches - BORBET XL - tuning - german wheels and tires - spacers - coilovers (http://www.tunershop.com/Wheels/18_inches/BORBET_XL_x100_106x_p52844.html)
Not exactly the same, but lots of similarities

If you use a company like shipito they will give you an American address which Hartmann can ship to, and then shipito will forward the wheels onto you. Price is about $400 for freight if I recall.

Yep they arent bad but they dont have the wow factor that the Hartman ones have, i think i might just go to some wheel shops one the car arrives and see if theres anything i like that dont have to be ordered. Otherwise i might just drop the ride height a bit and save up for something real nice.

just wondering if anyone has had any experience with IROC wheels? whats their quality, reputation, etc. like?

i found a set on ebay that are exactly the same as the Hartmann wheels i was after earlier but couldnt ship from US.

this is the listing on eBay. (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=300568561663) they are going pretty cheap! any feedback would be appreciated :)
