This will be on show at the Wörthersee Tour later this month.

Cosmetic tweaks only apparently, plus bi-xenons and rear LEDs as standard. Wonder how the adidas styled interior will look. There'll be 4410 on sale soon, only LHD I think.

VW will also be releasing a modified GTI Excessive at Wörthersee. That should be a bit more extreme than the adidas by the sounds of things.

It is confirmed that this car is now coming to Australia. See my post here (http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/f112/golf-gti-adidas-limited-edition-coming-australia-44404-4.html#post561252)

It's a shame that they didn't release a picture of the interior, since that's where the big individuality of this model apparently exists. The outside doesn't look any different, apart from the wheels of course (and the LED tailights, not pictured... although they'd just be the same as the optional ones).

Nice find. Doesn't seem like much of a theme, you can buy those mats, golf gear shifters and change the RCD510 colours in VCDS. Looks like its really just the seats and the wheels.

coming from someone who loves Adidas and has some 3 stripe trackies, (old school Trefoil) i think the seats are hideous. They are better than than the pirelli but they were terrible.

The wheels are nice and the exterior looks good,

Alright boys and girls. As originally shown at Wörthersee earlier this year, the Golf GTI Adidas is coming to Australia!!!

It'll be in limited numbers, much like the MKV GTI Pirelli.

RRP $45,990 + ORC
5 Door DSG only

In addition to regular GTI features and inclusions you get:
Adidas seats & stitching, gear knob and heated seats
Bi-Xenon
Bluetooth
LED Taillights
Media Device Interface
Serron 18" Alloys

Also much like the MKV GTI Pirelli, the options are also more limited, with only the following options available:
ACC
Park assist + RVC
RNS-510
Sunroof

And finally, the only two colours are Candy White & Tornado Red!

Agreed, good value for the additional options as standard. Still, 3-door better looking

They should include a sign/sticker that says 'No Nikes Allowed'. Maybe include B&W racing stripes on the exterior similar to the Adidas 3-stripes. Good one about free trekkies :P

I believe the LEDs are the lighter (Cherry?) red tails that are a factory option in Europe, and not the darker Golf R colour. So you should still be able to distinguish it from an R - during the day at least. ;)

Crap, can't believe VW has stooped to this level, marketing takes over. The Pirelli was/is nice IMO (not yellow sorry), subtle but liveable and relevant to the auto industry.

I'm not quite sure why you're posting that question in THIS thread, since the matts in the Adidas don't have red piping (they do have a red line, maybe stitching?, around the inside of the piping though). But yes, we've always known where you get those mats from. From your VW Dealer...

Guys

Maybe I am a bit slow on the uptake but at the Sydney Motor Show, VW released a new GTi variant that os an aesthetic makeover in conjunction with Adidas.

There is quiote a few visual enhancements (Leather bolsters in the seats, wheels, different gear knob etc AND "R" LED TAILLIGHTS !) and also things like MDI & Bluetooth included. Price is $45,990 + on road costs for 5 Door with DSG. On the surface of it, it sounds like a pretty good deal but my initial impression is that the seats don't look as good as the standard ones.

Anyway, here's a link to an article of the full details:
Volkswagen Golf GTI adidas edition to debut at Australian International Motor Show | Car Advice | Reviews (http://www.caradvice.com.au/84697/volkswagen-golf-gti-adidas-edition-to-launch-at-australian-international-motor-show/)

You're very slow on the update!

Please use the search function before creating a new thread. I mean seriously, it takes you about 1/10th the time to type "Adidas" into the "Search this forum" function on the right hand side of any forum listing, than it does for me to have to merge two threads and go through this process....

Having just completed a Master of Business degree with a module on New Product Development, I can tell you there are well documented processes at play, one of those being Product Lifecycle.. Given the Mk6 GTI has been in production long before we got it here, VAG would be looking at the possible ways to extend the lifecycle, and co-branding is one such vehicle (no pun) .

Given the fallout of the GFC is still affecting global markets, VW may have turned to local organisations for this co-branding support..

PS.. I also found that NPD can also be an acronym for something else.. google it (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Narcissistic_personality_disorder)

The MK6 Golf GTI was officially launched on March 23, 2009. It was available for sale in Germany within a few days, Europe within a few weeks, and then Australia had its launched in Australian 6 months later in September...

Because it's frustrating when I've just had to spend 15 minutes of my own time clearing up other posts and moving them around, and then someone doesn't take the 30 seconds to type "Adidas" into the search thingy causing me to have to spend another 2 or 3 minutes. Sorry if I come across blunt, but when I'm already time limited and you waste more of my time, I'm not going to spend even more time making my messages all nice and fluffy. :)

Im obviously in the minority here, but I'd rather the GTI than the standard GTI.

I dont mind the interior. Its a lot more "racy" than the tartan "jacky".. but I like it just as much.

And I am guessing, (but cant be sure) it is more exclusive than a regular GTI.

But obviously this comes at extra cost over the standard GTI..

The fact that VW haven't done any engine upgrades to the EA888 for the Adidas limited edition leads to me to suspect that the EA888 can't handle them. i.e it isn't as robust in it's current form as the EA113. Otherwise, they would have just used the EA888 with a KO4 in the R.

As limited editions go, this Adidas LE is in the same league as the Limited Editions that the Japanese car companies put out. i.e. slap on some stickers, some alloys and different coloured fabric. e.g. Suzuki Sportsgirl edition Swift, Nissan Reebok edition Pulsar.

Corey_R
13-02-2011, 08:37 AM
Now now triod12... I like bagging out the EA888 as much as the next person (especially since WJ keeps trying to remind us how great it is). But we all know that it can take more than it currently does, since it has more in the Audi's. Not any more killerwasps, but more torques! More torques in fact than the Golf R in Australia.... 155kW and 350Nm. This comes simply by the addition of variable valve lift :)

Stopped by the my dealership today for a poke around and they had 4 on the lot, there certainly not my cup of tea. I hate to say it but I think in years to come they will turn out like the Reebok pulsar. You say you drive an old pulsar no one cares. Tell em you drive the Reebok edition and you just get laughed at.

... in saying all that id still take the wheels over the Detroits any day of the week though

Remember kiddies that opinions are like assholes, the looser they are the more questions people ask. ;)

Adidas is a classic German sports apparel company.. They invented the leather football studded boots, just like VW invented the hot hatch GTI. In Europe they are well respected. Im not ashamed to say I wear Adidas boots for soccer and have a few Adidas Chelsea jerseys + Jackets.
Why all the Hate?

I'd say its a great combination for a limited model..

Hmmm our dealer has two still in stock - their total allotment from VWA. It seems like they aren't really selling maybe? He says 200 only brought to Australia.

I don't think people have problems with Adidas per se - they do make great products. It is more the fact that VW trying to cash in on their branding rather than putting out a limited edition that is really something that is worthy of the title.

Yeah, im positive. One on the ramps, one out the front on the grass and two by the fence. Its the wheels that makes them stand out, but apart from the logo on the side you wouldnt be able to tell is was some limited special edition. Its not until you up close do you see the LED tails.

I dont think its peoples perception of Adidas, I certainly dont have a problem with them and they make some good stuff. Im of the opinion that apart from a few branding differences there's no need to have this over the standard GTI. Especially with what it costs to get one on the road you are starting to look at Golf R money ... and who would possible choose this over the R is beyond me. My only question is who are their target market for this trim level?

Same I reckon too. Adidas also sponsor the NBA which I am infatuated with. I understand people have their market position of things.. That's all it is. The car is great version of the GTI.. And has a heap of extras.. And apparently according to Kojarena, there are only going to be 200 of them.

Sometimes getting something unique is getting something not everyone wants. :)

I Suggest Gen Y and Gen Next.. all the research points to this age group being drawn to brands.. if the generic GTI doesn't grab them then maybe the recipe of German branding will get them through the door.. my guess it wont quite hit the mark because VW is not an inexpensive option for the young uns

Adidas seats & stitching, gear knob and heated seats
Bi-Xenon

I'd have to agree that the MKIV Polo GTI isn't the best looking car out there...but it ain't as bad looking as the Yaris or Swift. It is also IMO the most fun to drive of recent VWs. It may not be the best performing in stock form. But IME, it is even more entertaining to drive than my Pirelli, the MkVI GTI, the R and new Polo GTI.

I just don't see who would buy this car... Adidas isn't related to cars at all, it is an apparel brand. Having adidas sign all over my car means nothing.

There is absolutely nothing special in terms of performance or added features of this car over the standard gti, for the pirelli, it has a different engine and turbo, plus pirelli is a car related product brand.

Everything about this car is just tacky, the gear knob is the worst imo

This car is really just suited to those who is in love with adidas, because seriously there is no reason to pay the same price for adidas cloth, when you can get leather.

I totally agree with you. Though I can somehow see a lot of these selling in Melbourne, and western Sydney :P

Adidas isn't even that crash hot of a brand. Now, if it was a "Hugo Boss" edition, or something it would get more respect from me. Italian handstiched leather seats, instead of "new car smell", it smelled like "Boss" etc.

Considering that they have pushed back the MKVII release because the sales of the MK6 are so great that they're having trouble keeping up with demand (and have apparently even stopped accepting orders for the R due to this), I'd say... not likely :)

But I'm asking WHEN VW are forced, by the competition catching up, to release the MkVII, would they do the proper 'hot' version? I fully understand that, given 1/4 of Golfs sold are GTis (allegedly), there is no incentive for VW to do anything truly special for the forseeable future.

Corey_R
18-02-2011, 10:16 AM
I still don't think that there is a need. There is no R32 anymore, so what would they do?
It'd be kinda silly to put the R engine into the GTI (like they did with the MKV GTI Pirelli/30th Edition), as that'd make it the same as an R without AWD.
The EA888 engine doesn't come in a more powerful version, just a more torquey version care of Audi's valve-lift variants.
They could partner with an ECU vendor... but doubt that would happen outside of the smaller entities such as Singapore.

Pepe

What I'd heard is that they were still selling them, but just being told not to actively sell them. The new VW ad that's been showing for a few days has an R in it, so be a bit surprised to see VW not taking orders for them.

If you squint, turn it sideways and really concentrate, I can see a G. I can also see a bit of an O, some Q and a U upside-down.

Nice find! ;) all jokes aside, I can see it a bit from the almost top down angle.

I de-badged mine this evening, its not that that I didnt like the logo's or anything but I didnt like that they were not flush and stuck out a little, I prefer the clean look so im happy with the results, and at the end of the day its just double sided tape so they can always go back on.

some ghosting left on the plastic, but not too bad ;) apart from the fact that my car now smells like freaking eucalyptus oil lol..

so whats the appeal of an adidas version of a GTI? apart from the fact that its a "limited edition"?

to me personally, you're pay more for the adidas than a normal GTI to get ugly seats, some adidas badges, ugly ass wheels, a golfball shaped DSG shifter and LED xenons/Golf R rear LED lights as standard? Nothing else? engine is still the same as the GTI

At least with the pirelli/Edition 30, you got the pirelli/BBS CH wheels respectively and the K04 turbo plus stronger internals

1) I priced up the adidas vs regular ( with extras, 18s, xenons etc ) GTI at the dealers and the adidas was almost $800 cheaper

2) pick up 2 days later or wait 6-8 months

I've got those in my MY11.5 R. The star is for the voice activation (phone calls, controlling the RNS510 system etc), the spanner is meant to allow you to call roadside assist through your phone with the touch of a button (haven't even looked at how to configure that yet). Not sure if there is anything else? I'll have a look when I get back in it later.

Saw a white one today in Germany... very classy package.

LED rear lights
Xenons with DRL
Carbon fiber rear diffuser
Carbon fiber interior inserts
Wheels - same as Adidas version
Stock GTi interior

For an extra 2500 Euro over the standard GTi price.

Also had a RNS 510 but not sure if that was part of the package.

Hey , man....Any secrets or clues as to how to de-badge without damage? Use a plastic scraper or something similar to get under the tape? Whats with the eucalyptus oil? Does it soften the glue on the tape?

(Don't have one yet, but don't like the badges either, and someone will try to steal them....)

Corey_R

The debadge method most people use is a hair dryer/heat gun/hot water and fishing wire. You need to be careful with the heat application that it's not so hot that it causes any damage. You then basically run the fishing wire behind the badge and pry it off.

Eucalyptus Oil is good for removing most forms of glue residue. Put some on a soft cotton cloth (or old tshirt) or even microfibre cloth, and then hold that against the residue for a minute or so, then gently agitate the residue off.

As Vaku mentioned, he then used some Turtle Wax scratch remover to get rid of the ghosting/light scratches left behind. I've never used that product before - but use common sense as to which product you should purchase and use depending on what surface you're debadging from! E.g. don't use a paint cut/polish on the gloss plastic trim as you'll just leave a dull tarnished finish.

Press the button in the middle of the temp control for the appropriate seat.
First press is on full, next press lowers the temp, another press lowers it more, next press turns it back off again.

If you don't have those buttons, you don't have heated seats.

Seat heaters are only fitted to cars with leather seats. According to Redbook, Heated Seats - 1st Row are standard, but the full Vienna Leather is still optional.

Presumably if you don't have full leather and don't have the seat heater buttons, then seat heaters are only fitted in conjunction with the full leather. :(

Yeah, I asked because I too hadn't seen a brochure for the Adidas either...

Having said that, the initial information provided to me when the RRP was announced, did say that it included heated seats. The press shots also included heated seats with the "Adidas cloth". But then, it also had the steering wheel on the wrong side ;)

There was a brochure which you can get off volkaswagens website if you click on models then golf. In the middle there is three smaller pictures inside a big picture of a golf, one of which is the adidas and says register your interest here. If you click that and give your email details it takes you to a page where u can download the brochure. All the cars advertised on carsales are also wrong about the heated seats then too.

Corey_R
18-03-2011, 08:43 AM
Yes, but I downloaded that information today, and anyone else who clicks on those links can see that even today, it still says that there are heated seats. It doesn't matter if VW revise the specs now, the cars were sold to these guys with that feature listed, and not delivered. They should talk to their dealer. I don't think it'll result in them receiving heated seats - but some acknowledgement should be provided...

If you guys ever wondered if VW are watching these forums... then there is your answer ;)

FYI, the "Flyer" I downloaded this morning was 2173KB and the one I downloaded two minutes ago is 6630KB! The info is the same (except for the removal of heated seats), the PDF has just been compressed differently.
The "Specs" link isn't working for me yet though...

Edit: And returning to the official VW.com.au website then going through the "registering my interest" for the Adidas again now shows that the button to download the specifications has been removed - again, this has only happened this morning as a result of this thread....

Someone I know ordered a BMW with heated seats.. and after the wait it didnt come with the seats. They were offered a cheesy spoiler, which they rejected, and just got a monetary amount back.

BUT it aint the same. Its another reason they bought the car. And without it it was a BMW without a fancy option.. which is the reason you buy a BMW in the first place!

I printed out the Aus version b4 they deleted it. Can possibly scan it if people want a copy. I'm gonna bring this up at my first service that the heated seats aren't there.

Yes, a copy would be good to have. Even if you just pm me and send me the pdf.

There is a clause in all the brochures that states that VW is not liable for any change in specs between those specified in the brochure and the subsequent delivered car.

There is a clause in all the brochures that states that VW is not liable for any change in specs between those specified in the brochure and the subsequent delivered car.

I suggest that is delimiting that which is specified as an option supplied by the dealer and VW themselves. If indeed VW advertise a vehicle with certain components and subsequently not supply them then that is false advertising, there is no wriggle room.

My father some years ago pursued FORD because thier broshures indicates side airbags in the seats and he discovered on reciept that there were none. After some to and from over several months with the Marketing and sales crowd he eventually wrote to the CEO of Ford Australia with the issue and within 24 hours he had a new Ford Explorer, took 18 months. Gave them the old one back...

I suggest that missing side airbags is quite different to missing heated seats.... no?
From all indications none of the Australian delivered Adidas model Golfs have heated seats fitted.

I went to my local dealer yesterday and saw that they just had a new red adidas come in, this was a October 2010 build....

Are all adidas cars built in 2010 or did some make it into 2011? I didn't go for one as I wanted a 2011 build, but more importantly, no corporate deals were being done on them either. So it made the overall price difference a lot larger than the the initial $3,500 odd on the RRP...

Wow, all the hate for a tiny badge and striped seats :P

I'll admit, I am not particularly taken with the seats myself, but it seems like you can get an Adidas trim more easily than custom ordering a new GTI with Xenons in. And maybe it's cos of that hate... some of the Adidas can be had cheaper than a spec-ed up GTI with Xenons and 18".

And the new Xenons.. with the LED DRL? I fell in love with them the moment I saw them here in the showroom. My current R35's LED DRL is just a bit naff. Worse it actually blocks air intake to the oil cooler. While I don't own a VW now, I manage to borrow my father-in-law's MkV GTI on occasion ;) I've even helped sponsor the ABT quad exhaust upgrade while he paid for the BSR reflash. So it seems like a great daily driver.

As for power, I think as I grow older, my balls seem to have gotten smaller. More to live for, my friend says. I think even in stock form, it's plenty enough to potter around it. The days of my GT2835 turbos, full turbo back exhaust systems and brakes are way behind me. I hope.

ps just in case I err backslide, what's VW Australia's policy on car modifications?

Saw a number of new Adidas units at 44-45 grand or thereabouts driveway on carsales. Not bad for a GTI with 18" MDI BT and bixenons, right?

i got mine (check sig for details of options) for 45k driveway (no corp discount). considering the adidas models will most definitely all be 5dr and DSG its probably around the right price point.

I think all the Adidas should have the LED DRLs so that makes them MY11. The VIN numbers on carsales appear to be bogus though. When I plug them into the decoder, it always says year of manufacture as the 1980s. :)

I meant while the adidas is MY11 but built in 2010 and as such, is ageing stock at the dealers. So should have some discount applied to it now.

I picked mine up on the weekend for $44990 drive away in Tornado Red. I'm not usually a fan of red cars but this converted me. I just think it suited the interior nicely with the red stitching throughout the car.

To the haters. Go into your dealer and try and get a standard MY11 GTI with DSG, Bi-Xenons, LED DRL's, MDI, BT, 18" wheels (and lets not forget Adidas leather trimmed seats!) for under $52k drive away. Nah, didn't think so. YOU MAD BRO?

Apologies, not the best pics (camera phone) and she has tints now!

I am not a hater but more pragmatic about how you view things.. damn good price, but any sales person will tell you "if it won't sell drop the price till it does"

Still well done and enjoy

that the one sitting opposite the golf club (hah) in wollongong? I passed it a few weeks back - awesome price, well done ;) and yeah I paid less for my 'das than if I ordered a similar spec GTI , and picked it up a few days later rather than wait 6 months etc..

Yeah, I certainly think that the Adidas represents AWESOME value! And hey... if you're not a fan of the "Adidas" badge on the B Pillars, a hair-dryer, fishing line, and a bit of plastic polish takes care of that in about 10 minutes. If you don't like the Adidas stripes on the seats, then get them reupholstered (just the "centres") with some alcantara or microfibre or even leather if the upholster thinks they can match it near enough with the rest of the leather. That'd take no more than a day and cost you far less than the price gap between an Adidas and an equally specced GTI.
