Hi Guys!

I got a call from VW South Yarra today as they had three new Polo's in. I went in to take a look. They had one in a dark grey, one in the yellow and one in silver.

I am 6ft and legroom is great. Boot space is a little small but because you can fold the backseats down I am sure this wouldn't be a problem. Very nice looking upclose.

Here are some pics of the silver one (these where taken on my Nokia mobile so excuse the quality):

It really is a mini Golf in almost every aspect. The only real difference is the tail lights.
I love the wheels too. Some decent width on the rubber!

Saw a couple of Polos in the dealership yesterday. Nice looking package (1.2 TSI manual), although I personally found the alloy wheels on that model underwhelming (different to the photos above). The back seat cushions looks more comfortable than the Mk 6 Golf though.

I agree, standard alloys are boring. If you are to get one, the sports pack is a must.

Saw 4 new Polo's on display down at Barloworld Mascot today.

Sales people were quite helpful with the new Polo's, Brochures and Price Lists available from Saturday.

Check out the drawer below the front seats! what a great feature.

Thanks for the new Pics. Can you scale them down next time? Each one is over a meg.

I like the new VAG lower lip, looks sporty. Otherwise, does not excite me. Think when the GTI gets here the Polo section will get flooded.

looks good like it what model is that - are the bigger rims and option seriously considering getting the wife into one of these and trading in the A160. She doesn't really need the size of the Golf and prefers a small car. Wonder how much space in the back for a child / booster seat?

With that Sports Pack and the 17s that come with it, I must say it really is a looker in the flesh. Went over to my local dealer (Chatty) and they had a grey one right there. I wouldn't buy one as I don't buy in that class of car, but if i did it'd be hard choosing between a Polo Sports Pack 1.2TSI/1.6TDI (I'm a diesel person too) and a Fiesta Zetec - both are exceptionally good cars. Shame both aren't Euro built, and no I wouldn't care about the price if they were...

ahhhh screw it i might have to go for a drive and check this out.

but the bloody pricks are only bringing the 66tdi into australia. maybe because 77kw is too much for us backward australians to handle, just like the scirocco?

and from what ive seen from the conservative tunes for the 77kw tdi, it begs the question if despite a beautiful 1.6L commonrail, they glued a tiny turbo onto it....

and the 66kw tdi isnt even very good fuel economy- 4.7L/100 when audi has already announced 3.8L/100kms for the 77kw 1.6tdi in the upcoming A1.

i always said its gonna be diesel diesel diesel for me from now on, but if tiny turbos mean low torque figures post-tune, and if fuel economy is still going to hover around the same level as the old pumpe duse engines, i'd have to re-consider getting the petrol twincharged....

dont give a rats about power, its all about torque to me, and its not looking like the new aus spec polo is as mild-mod friendly as my current 1.9tdi from that perspective.

Had a look at these. Look good with the 17's. They don't appear to be much bigger than the 9n3? Nice interior, but still a bit behind the golf. The engine bay for the 1.2 TSI looks half empty haha..

I think they'll sell very well for VW.

Yeh the VIC prices are much higher than that too. the 77TSI is ~22500 in manual or ~25000 in DSG. Also I was told the sunroof may be added later but I don't think it is a current option?

No post code!
Those or the base prices of the car. You can then each deal with the individualised costs yourselves. Everyone will have different onroads because 1) You are talking to different dealers who may have different dealer delviery charges, 2) You live in different locations, 3) You might be male or female, 4) You are all different ages, 5) You all have different driving records.

Even going to the VW site and putting in the post code is not likely to give you the price you will pay because:

This is the manufacturer's recommended driveaway price. Available at participating dealers. Private buyers only. Price is based on a 40 year old male with a good driving record and for private use. The final price may vary according to your circumstances as confirmed by your dealer. Options and metallic paint available for an additional cost. Please see your local dealer to confirm your individual price.

So in summary, the prices I posted are correct. They are the actual price of the car no matter where you go. The onroads will be different for practically every single person on this forum.

Thanks for the welcome pixl. I will be sure to post our experiences once we've taken delivery. My wife can't wait! (Neither can I actually).

It's funny, now that I've driven the Polo 1.2TSI I am finding I really enjoy the turbo 'rush' that you get with the turbo cars (even though it's quite sedate in the 1.2TSI) - I don't get that with my R32. I think I may have to buy a new Golf R sooner than I was planning to....

LOL that was quick, I only test drove that car on Saturday. What price did you pick it up for?

MK532
11-05-2010, 10:01 AM
Hi dave- o.

We have placed a holding deposit on the car at the moment with the balance due when we pick up the car (in about six weeks). The cost ended up being about $24K drive-away though this will hopefully be reduced, as we are still waiting to hear whether VWA allows the Corporate Plus discount.

My wife needed to get a new car ASAP (as she has been hanging for one for almost a year now (previously she wanted the MK4 Polo GTi)) so we went ahead and purchased brand-new floor stock, rather than waiting months and months for a new 'spec' model to arrive.

It sounds like you'll have some fun with the .:R coming, hey?

Got a questions just seen a pic of the Polo GTI(Mk5) wondering if you could swap the head lights into the base model...http://hangimages.com/thumbs/db2010au00150me.jpg (http://hangimages.com/?v=db2010au00150me.jpg) they look like they are the same size and everything but the leds on the inside make it look nicer.

Corey_R

Unlikely, and even if possible, likely illegal. Those headlights are the probably optional Xenon (I say probably, because you're asking about a car which is still 6 months from release).
Even if you could swap the headlights, you are unlikely to be able to install the headlight washer system which is required by law for Xenon's.

Doubt it.
They look like the Bi-Xenons and you would need the healight washers and leveling unit to make the assembly legal for use in the polo.

So yes you probably could do it but it would most likely be illegal or overly expensive almost to the point where you would have been better getting the GTI anyway.

I'm hoping for the discount also but might be in a better positon due to the time it will take to get here. Given you have placed a deposit, I assume that the car gets locked and not used for test drives etc now or is it not technically yours yet?

That's right. The car has been locked up and removed from the showroom floor to storage. The car was not used for test drives, but was used for test 'sits' for Saturday (which would've seen a few bums I guess....)

hey mate, welcome to the forums!

this place is full of enthusiasts to varying degrees.

i'd say that there are more than a couple of people on here who wouldnt put anything but BP ultimate in their cars.

even though mine's a diesel, when im running low, i dont look for the nearest servo, i look for the nearest BP.

The Reason Im asking because as the specification says Ron95 is needed, therefore I dont know if there is a real benefit of using ron98 to fully utilize the new 1.2L turbo engine. Probably Ron95 will last as long as Ron98.

98 will give more power and burn more efficiently than the dirtier 95.
95 is a false economy as you pay less but you use more and it harms your engine more.

It was suggested that the 118TSI failures were due to our fuel standards being sub-par but i never found out if it was true or not.

Hi mate,

If the book says 95 RON then there's no reason you shouldn't be able to use it. As suggested, you might get better economy and a tiny smidgen more power out of 98. Try both and see how your fuel economy goes.

-Phil.

Corey_R
21-05-2010, 08:56 AM
Of course, regardless of what fuel is the minimum requirement, there are only advantages by using better fuel, apart from the few cents additional cost. In the long run, the 98 octane fuels like BP Ultimate contain cleaning agents which prevent build up of carbon deposits on your engine internals. Therefore, regardless of whether your minimum requirement is 91, 95 or 98 - you will always be better to use the 98.

if you have a dub, refuel it with 98. end of story

I did this for a year. My first non-BP fill up was on my last trip to the servo - went Caltex...........not sure if it was in my head only, but it felt sluggish to begin with, but sort of got better as I went through the tank.

Will try Caltex again a couple more times, before maybe Mobile next, just for the sake of comparison.

man, one time, i was stuck in inner suburb friday arvo melbourne traffic [where nothing moves because pedestrians have right of way with left hand turns, and everyone wants to turn left, etc etc, resulting in blocked arterial roads], my light had been on for a while, but i was just chewing through fuel going nowhere for like an hour and a half. i had to put $10 in at a united because it was either that or walk home.

i felt really bad for my car that day :(

Test drove the 1.2TSI with DSG today. Great little car. Performance is decent. Have to love that turbo kick you get. One thing I did notice though was a bit of a rattle under hard acceleration. This may have been due to the fact the car had done only 40km's though? Still a bit concerning none the less.

I have also noticed this on the front right hand side when turning, even when I drive slow, I can hear some strange noise coming out from the susspension or steering. Ive done almost 1000km. I'm abit concerned, :( Has this happened to anyone on the new Polo or in the previous generation Polo?

Also when I released the brake, the Engine rev will increase all the suddent, im guessing because of Hill Assist, but it is abit too much assist for flat surface, and i felt the transmission is a bit rough, when the car is stationary before accelerate, not very smooth transition. Not sure if anyone noticed all the above issues I mentioned before.

Where can I find the current known issues for the new polo?

One last Question do I need to follow the run in procedure? wait till 1500km

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

I am getting my Polo in 2 weeks so I can report back then. However it sounds like it would be a good idea to take it into the dealer to get there opinion. Please post back here to let us know what they say.

Thanks

Looks fantastic Allegiance, Congrats!
I too am getting a black Polo with Sports pack (and a few other things). Thanks for the photos, I had only seen a Black Trendline Polo and was wondering if they chromed the surround of the plastic grill in between the two foggies.

Could you possibly tell me if there is One Reverse light and One fog light? Assuming the reverse light is only the left and fog light is the right.

Yep, a single reverse light, on the left, and single red foglight on the right. You can see it in this photo:

I have ordered them for Germany and should arrive in Sydney next week. They drop the front by 35mm and the rear by 55 mm, I did a quick measure of the current wheels arch gaps and they are 50mm front and 70mm rear so this should give me a 15mm clearance all around. I think it should look really good and can't wait till we pick it up next week.

Assuming your asking me :P Yeah the storage trays are cool. My fiancée seems to really love them (showing all her friends :P ) There is also a 12v socket in the boot. I heard a rumor that only the first batch of Polo's had the under seat tray and 12v socket in the boot though. Let us know when you get it!

The rear hatch spoiler is a genuine VW item that normally comes with the body kit.

I got the coils from Orange Tuning in Germany, the one's you want are the H&R VW Polo 6R Sport Springs 35/55mm
from year 06/2009 ->, up to 929Kg front axle weight. They also have another set which is 25mm - 40mm but I don't think they will be low enough.

That's pretty good. I found a UK website that is $268AUD (at current exchange rate) delivered, but not sure if that is international.

I'd be keen to see how much lower the car is than with a sports pack suspension. When you put them in please put up photos ;)

If there is a black Polo you had better hurry up because it won't be there very long. I placed an order 6 weeks before they were launched and they happened to have exactly what I wanted, I believe our Polo is currently the only fully spece'd car in the country. I was told that if you order now you would lucky to get one November possibly December.

Don't expect any deals as they can sell everything they have got. The only reason I got a better price is because I have bought quite a few cars from them before and that I bought ours pre launch.

P.S The car is fantastic it rides and handles perfectly on Sydney's Streets/Roads

however...i have that same rattling issue as on the problems page but it seems The Denlo group will be on to it quickly as the service department have received my details for an immediate check.

Edit: Gear knob pictures and new photo which sums this wonderful car Also the car has been taken immediately in by Denlo Volkswagen Parramatta to rectify issues that i have stated, very professional and got a loan car for the time my car is getting the rattles sorted.

yeh its a new rear muffler with the pipes, but you have to spray and install on top of that price, doubt much change outa 3 grand :( ill price up some copies, but i bet in under 12 months the rears will be on ebay for $400 or something.

You gotta love the industrious Chinese...

Spoke to one of the fellas, the Rear is only the Diffuser (In carbon-look with the twin pipe muffler including shift) He informed me there is no painting involved, what they do is that small lip on the TSI is removed and the carbon-look version takes it;s place in that spot.

He quoted me for $1890

If we can find a ching wang or something who can make it work, should organise a cheap group buy, the front is basically finished...the rear needs a little bit of work on it :)

ill pay a visit to my body kit guy early next week. see what he says. but the whole thing isnt cabon look? the je polo has painted sides and carbon middle. anywho carbon is a tad wanky in my opinion, unless your a full on track racer. im going with and red and black theme to my polo :)

Hail22
08-10-2010, 10:31 PM
are you talking about the ABT, or the Reiger kit...the ABT rear is just a diffuser with muffler in Carbon-look if you own a Flash red or Candy White polo it would look perfect considering it wouldn't over do it.

the abt kit, its the same rear skirt as the je design polo. i dont think ill be doing the skirt any time soon. iv got my sound system planned out and thats gonna cost more then the skirt! and i wanna get that done soon! i had two 12"s in my bora, i miss them sooo much

yeah, sweet car, casper!

love the stereo install- looks schmick!

+1 re: the tyres- makes them really stand out! i used to use meg's hot tyres (or whatever it's called), and i've tried countless other tyre sprays, which have worked to varying degrees, but the thing is, one spray bottle might cost $20+ and only last 5-6 washes.

so now, i just use the armor all tyre gel, it was like $11, it looks set to last a good 15+ washes, and it keeps the tyres looking nice and black/wet, until the car's due for another wash (in my case, usually a 1-2 weeks, as it's always parked outside).

Lauri, sorry I don't have a picture for you. But I have seen two on the road and they look great; very clean [But then again most colours do as there aren't horrible black bumpers or side details on the car]. The sports pack aloys look good on the white! I am sure you won't be disappointed.

hey mate, welcome to the forums!

this place is full of enthusiasts to varying degrees.

i'd say that there are more than a couple of people on here who wouldnt put anything but BP ultimate in their cars.

even though mine's a diesel, when im running low, i dont look for the nearest servo, i look for the nearest BP.

Any reason for this Caltex vortex in both 98 ron and now diesel are poping up more now . vortex worse than ultimate or v power?

Shell prevailed.

Kinda sucks for me because I've always used BP Ultimate but will change to Shell when my Polo GTI arrives.

Yeah i been using V Power in my bike for a while now.

All good .

Used Vortex/ultimate for a while on bike to clean it out then went to V power as a Sheel is closer to my house and more on way home each day.

Back on topic anyone hear or know if you can just BUY the Bi xenon head lamps for the POLO? cause i really like them but im starting to lean away from the GTI for $$ reasons.
*SIGH*
Think dealer could order them in as a part and then just fit them for me if i ask really nicly. Dodgy i know

Any dealers on here looking ask your service centre and post on here im sure a few moders would like to know the answer. other wise its just me

Corey_R

Look in the MK6 Golf forum on the numerous threads people have started about retro fitting Xenon HID lights.

It's illegal.

Unless of course you went the full route of installing all the accelerometers, motors, and washes which are required by law to augment the Xenon. That would of course require a customised bumper so you could install the washers... which would probably mean fitting the entire GTI front bumper and grill set. I'd say, low guestimate, you're probably looking at a minimum of $4,000 to do it properly. When you start talking that money, it's making much more sense to just get the GTI in the first place...

madsumberohat
09-12-2010, 07:39 AM
Damn really?

I just thought you could get the dealer to say order in a set from the VW parts bin in german and say need them for a POLO gti that had a fender bender or whateva and just drop them in.

Ofcourse some elec wizardy woudl need to go on the fuses etc but wouldnt think need to replace anything cause as far as i know the light as sam size and no washers on the polo i thought

Corey_R
09-12-2010, 07:43 AM
Have a look at the Polo GTI. It has washers. ALL Xenon cars require them by law.
The also require "self leveling" which is dynamic during the cars journey. At the most basic, you need a few accelerometers so they car knows when it's pitching back due to acceleration or weight in the back, or pitching forward due to breaking etc. This data is provided to "something" (not sure if it's part of the light or light's motors or a separate computer) which calculates the movements of the lights and angles them up/down constantly based on that information.

Can you relocate batteries ? the GTI's is in the boot and would like to relocate somewhere of get a smaller high performance one so can fit in engine (if possible)
this legal to do at all. of course get enginner etc to do it and sign off on it, but is it allowed under the law ?

Nope. It was a conscious decision to put them on.
The previous Polo GTI had 16" Denvers. The MKV/6 Golf GTI has 17" x 7.5" Denvers. This Polo GTI has 17" x 7" Denvers. So they're specific to new Polo GTI...

P.S The car is fantastic it rides and handles perfectly on Sydney's Streets/Roads

however...i have that same rattling issue as on the problems page but it seems The Denlo group will be on to it quickly as the service department have received my details for an immediate check.

Edit: Gear knob pictures and new photo which sums this wonderful car Also the car has been taken immediately in by Denlo Volkswagen Parramatta to rectify issues that i have stated, very professional and got a loan car for the time my car is getting the rattles sorted.

you get a new car now then a new car in 5 months lol you hiring it or something or paying the cost of how much it will drop in 6 month then you trade it in ?
OR you get this for wife and then gti is for you when you get it in and you keep both?

Spot on. We had been considering updating the wife's car and since mine was totalled decided to go ahead and update, but keep her old 2000 Corolla rather than trade in on the Polo. Will trade or sell the Corolla (only has 59k on the clock) when I get the GTI. We will become a fully VW driveway.

Not sure about that, but I can tell you my 3 door black was without concrete slab above head. :)

Nice black GTI. But what is that 'lip' at the front end of the sunroof? Or is it something in the background??

I think the idea is to reduce wind noise in the cabin or just turbulence in general. :-)

I believe it is the wind deflector, majority of sunroofs have them. My honest opinion, the sunroof looks odd open but again, that's just my opinion :) looks cool closed tho:)

When I saw the car, it looked like the roof can slide back only a certain amount or it will hit the antenna.
Also visited a VW dealer in Stuttgart, he said approx 4 months wait on a newly ordered Polo Gti. They had two in stock that were nicely optioned also. Doh !!

Can it be lowered whilst the sunroof is opened? Looks weird with it up like that - i'm used to cars appearing higher at the back & angling down to the front with the sunroof open & not having something popped up like that looking like it's in the way....(silly I know)..

I highly doubt it, all the cars I've ever been in with sunroofs have that automatically pop up, otherwise it feels like you have a leaf blower stuck to your head....

Almost all sunroofs have some type of wind deflector which pops up at the front... this one needs to be larger because of the fact the sunroof is so large. The only way to avoid this but have the sunroof open would to be to use the "tilt" function of the sunroof (if it has one).

Very likely. He posted in another thread to say he'd just had a paint rejuvanation and paint protection done...

not sure why you'd be wanting to do rejuvanation on a brand new car, unless it was already scratched up by dealers (or unless final detail are a little over ambitious on their "package names") but hey!

Yes was done at final inspection, and did the rejuvenate as there were very minor swirl marks on bonnet and slight off discolor on rear boot. But work has evened it all out back to better than new.

Hi Corey,
Interested to know what you would recommend as a treatment on a new car? Any advice would be useful:) PM me if you like.

It's best to have a look around the Bodywork/Trim detailing forum at the threads and advice there.
It really comes down to:
What do you do with your car
What you want to achieve with your protection/maintenance
How much time you want/have to dedicated to the maintenance.

For example, wax gives the deepest shine and the wettest look, but needs to be redone every few months. Sealants tend to look a bit more "plasticy" yet will last about 6 months (up to 12 months for consumer nano-sealants). Ventureshield (or other paint protection films) are a physical "contact" style wrapping (like you would put on your books in school), and is the only thing that will stop stone chips and scratches etc, but it doesn't have the mirror like shine that you can get from brand new paint and you can see the edges and other imperfections up close (within a metre). But then, the sealants and waxes won't stop scratches or stonechips so if you actually drive your car, then you'll get imperfections anyway...

Check out the detailing forum :)

What's been your experience with it so far? Aside from looks what's it like in terms of open/shut mechanism and wind noise when driving for example.

Frostee - wind noise hasn't been an issue although I've only had open on suburban streets. Unfortunately the weather has been fairly average since I picked it up so haven't really had a chance to try it out properly. It's a fairly smooth opening and closing process and not too noisy in my opinion. There are 'stop' points between open and closed so you don't have to have it open the whole way if you don't want.

IMHO, I still feel the mechanism looks a little untidy, forgetting about that sock up front, why does the sunroof open above the car roof and not into the car roof lining? With all these external parts, one would think that there must be some noise generated at speed?

Corey_R
31-03-2011, 08:42 PM
Because it's a panoramic sunroof.
The sunroof is way too large to stay inside the lining....

gavs
01-04-2011, 06:48 AM
Also comes down to the shape of the roof too, it's wider at the front then at the rear. With the height that the glass panel opens too, I beleive that you would lose too much headroom if it opened internally.
