As the title asks......

I recently bought an OEM S3 gear knob with the hope of putting it on my VR6 (seller said it would fit) but unfortunately it is not compatible. I reckon the MK4 GTI gear knob would look good, but I don't know if it will fit.

The shaft sizes are different . Its not going to be a straight bolt on unless you cut off your mk3 shifter shaft and weld on a mk4 one . If it was bolt on I would have used the R32 one I had laying around to replace my VR6 one . The R32 pedals can be made to work on VR6 if your patient enough :)

Can you just use a short shifter, as the shaft will be shorter, as well as the actual throw?

is it that the diameter of the shafts are not the same? if it is smaller you could bore it out couldnt you?

ive heard of a few americans doing this conversion. I think the solution is to tap a thread into the mk4 gearknob.
But i reckon itd be more hassle than its worth with all the nice aftermarket knobs available. Go the oldschool golfball knob. u know u wanna!

Thanks for the replies guys! I reckon the best option will be to go with a universal knob. The stock VR6 one has a good weight and feel, but mine is bright green (Colour Concept) and it looks awful (seats and all black leather). I have a new gaiter, just need a nice weighty knob to finish it off. I had an old Razo one on there but it looks a bit ricey and it is too light since I put the short shifter in. Any suggestions?? I don't want to spend too much.....
