It could (a massive could) be unveiled this weekend in NY but from what I've read from respected sources on the net - June reveal.

I am in love with the new Jetta, and hope I will be able to wait for it if my current Jetta gets written off.
It now looks a little bit similar to the new Honda Accord Euro...

huge improvement, looks similar to an Audi A4 but im guessing if its no longer based on the golf then prices will rise dramatically.

That's a real shame, it won't attract the same attention if the price is raised.

I agree.
It looks so bland and boring now, nothing eye catching and no wow factor.

x2

The lack of a proper grill makes it less exciting to look at, it still look kinda like a "golf with a boot" i dont see too much difference

That's a US-spec pic, whereas the main Vwwa page has the news story and pic of the Euro spec model:
VWWatercooled Australia - VWWatercooled News (http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/content/)
http://www.vwwatercooled.com.au/forums/images/imported/2010/11/DB2010AU01357_small-3.jpg

As you can see from the pictures the newly released Euro spec Jetta differs from the North American spec Jetta by having:

-Clear head light indicators.
-Euro spec instrument cluster.
-Rear bumper with revised warning reflectors and black lower half.
-Interior has softer plastics.
-Multi link rear suspension
-Euro spec engines.

Jetta VI will likely launch late next year with basically the same engine range as the current Jetta V that includes the 77TDI, 118TSI, 103TDI and 147TSI. Expect aggressive pricing as VW targets more volume in the medium size class.

With the current AUD and the push for #1 worldwide sales (and increase VAG sales leadership in Australian segments) it could be a case of either much more aggressive pricing on a de-specced price leader (1.2L anyone?!?) or just more competitive pricing on loaded-spec models.

You can see some chrome on the front valance, along the base of the windows and there are probably more standard features expected on an AU-spec car than the stripped US base version. This one looks better than the US one but still looks a lot plainer (to me) than the MkV.

That article suggests that the car won't be available in Australia until late 2010! Surely it will arrive before that.

That pic of the euro spec is a computer animation.. in reality it will look pretty much identical to the pic I post (only with fog lights). These are base models and yes they do look a little plain but in comparison to the current base model jetta its a huge improvement, it no longer looks like a stretched out golf.

Sorry, that was a typo. I was hoping it would be here before that suggested date due to the fact that they are already available in the US.

It maybe launched by March but I doubt that due to VW launching Touareg & Golf BlueMotion.

Also the South American order books are open as well as Europe, so I expect Puebla plant to be busy for a while before RHD production gets a leg in. UK, Japan & NZ get RHD models first.

Kiwis get Scirocco but we never will, then they get the New Jetta first.

I'd love the former; I am happy for the Jetta V to continue as long as possible. :) Take as long as possible, New Jetta! :)

Interestingly enough, since 1980,when the Jetta 1 was launched in South Africa,it was built there.

Now,from 2011,the new model will also be fully imported from Mexico.

Jetta 5 models were built in Mexico,SA,Russia,India, and China.

I wonder which plants will build the Jetta 6 ?

Mexico allready,and China for sure.

SA no.

Wonder about India and Russia.

I've been speaking to a couple of dealers lately about whether to upgrade my Jetta. Word is from both of them release will be September / October next year.

The wait between ordering and getting the car will likely be less than the 6-8mths Golf R owners are having to do. :)

I maintain the belief that there won't be a 'new' Jetta which looks even remotely as sporty as the Golf R. :(
Oh well, I'll just focus on the mid-engine VW/Porsche instead for upgrade cars.

PS. Von Richtofen, before you sell out, a few Jetta MkV questions re.your own mods:

How do you find your car's handling before & after the whiteline RSB?
Is this a solid bar and is it much stiffer than a GTI RSB?
I'm considering a Bluefin. Did you get a map that accounts for your intake?
Right now I'm doing the one semi-cosmetic mod Jettas need - headlights!

I have been hearing a lot of rumours this week about a Jetta R,which would be a 3.6 V6,and use a 4 motion system.

VW at this stage are thinking about putting it into production..........

holy crap...

going on the R36 numbers - that would be a CRACKER of a car!

Since I've not read (only skimmed) the Autocar story, I didn't find any reference to an actual, built, test car.

I would love to see a Jetta R MY11 3.6 AWD test car unveiled for both the car show circuit, to gauge interest/orders for various markets - and for some test drives / journo reviews of the concept car.

My first response is great! My second is how does VAG work the R division in its plans against Audi and its S cars?

I think there is plenty of room in the VAG range for this car!

Yes,September 2011 for Australia...should once again be a winner for VW.

Thanks guys - I can't wait that long as I need a car for work now - decided to order a new Jetta 118tsi anyway yesterday (its a 2 year work lease) as nothing else really came close to what it offers vs the lease price (I need boot space with 2 kids). I cross-shopped it with the Golf wagon as the golf gets the mk6 front but the Jetta still appealed more to me. Hope I made the right decision!

+1 for the boot space! My wife's Jetta is the family run about and we take it away on trips away as the boot space is awesome, unlike my Golf ;)

That's an awful looking grill, a real step backwards from the current look.

If there is an R version, it would most likely use the same engine as the 2.0 lt turbo Golf R. VW are moving away from larger engines.

Search for the old story that the VW R division boss mentioned a V6 Jetta R as a possible future model. Imagine a Jetta R36 AWD! :D

The things dreams are made of...with a higher power to weight ratio than the passat R36, this would have to do 0-100 in around 5 seconds flat ..

I did send an e-mail to VW following that story, to express my interest in VW's R division going ahead with this car.

Anyone else who likes this concept should do the same thing. :)

The Jettas boot is MASSIVE,and its such a good, practical choice.

Saw spypics of the 2012 Seat Toledo today, which will really be a rebadged Jetta, looks very nice though.
