HI there everyone,
First of all I would like to thank everyone for their responses in my other thread - but here I have another question that I may or may not get flamed for.

First of all I have only dealt with mk1's pre 1980

I have been told that an aftermarket 2.0l block bolts straight onto the gti mk2 92 head. (1.8l)

Now is the the block 1.8l in the gti the same as the 16v 1.8l say in the 1.8t.(or other 16v for that matter)

If so my thinking is that a 1.8 16v head should go onto a 2.0; block like in the GL 97 that I am getting or is there somewhere I can source a 2.0 16v head + intake/exhaust manifold etc and would it fit????

I have seen a conversion kit for fiting the 16v head (2.0) but is expensive. So I know that a 16v head can be fitted just that it is unclear if this is indeed a 2.0l head???(ie specific for 2 litres or just changed to suit ie longer duration for bigger stroke etc)

Thanks and regards,

2 litre 16 ABF engine head is different to the KR 1800 or 9A 2litre 16valve head.

I don't that it is practical to fit either to an 8V block. I have heard of folk fitting 16V KR heads to 1800 8 valve blocks but there was some messing about to be done. This was in the days when the mk2 16 V had just come out and a full engine was big money.

Not flaming you but it'll be a load of trouble. Far better to save up for the full engine and management and sell the removed engine afterwards.
